No 1 Nails - This is my favorite place hands down Jessica and her family are amazing great attention to detail I always get what I wanted! - Nail Salons Near Me - Ferndale, Michigan

Every lady in Detroit must be out to get her eyebrows and mani/pedi done this week because I've bombed out at three regular places for a simple procedure of eyebrow waxing. Running out of time in advance of a wedding and unable to find anything near work, I turned to one of the new spas which recently opened along the west end stretch of Nine Mile. My first choice was booked up solid for the night, so I went right next door to Number One nails. The place follows the script for non-descript nail salon pretty well. Anonymous decor, fairly spacious layout and a host of nail polish bottles cluttered along the front counter instead of on the wall spells a likely unremarkable experience. It's not a place I would go for a manicure, but a $10 eyebrow wax requires less discerning tastes while in a rush. Boxes and a couch fill half the backroom, and the waxing room consists of a floor-level lawn chair, a pot of wax, a mirror, and a cabinet. Not exactly inspiring much confidence but $10 is $10, and I wasn't about to try working my way down Nine Mile or pay $25 for Rouge. And most likely all the posh hipster gals in Ferndale were there en masse, with my luck this week. The older woman doing my brows made up some for the lackluster decor, applying wax with a practiced hand in a not entirely pain-free process. She snipped and waxed, then did minor clean-up with tweezers. The process was neither belaboured nor obsessively attentive to detail, and the results are a clean arch without the spectacular elegance I've found elsewhere. My natural shape comes through and I don't look like a creature who escaped from the Wild Carnival display at the zoo, so we're good. In a pinch, it's a reasonable stop but not a place I would become a regular of. Free parking is available next door, but they don't accept credit cards and they close a bit early. ** CASH ONLY ** read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review. I did like the woman that did my nails -but personality is not enough. First, the lobby leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion the salon does not present as profession or clean. I want to be clear though -- it IS clean -- but it just looks rundown and sad. The polish colors are limited, especially for shellac. This was disappointing as well. There weren't any "it" colors for Spring or Summer. Okay - now for the actual. I asked for a shellac/gel manicure - what I got was a shellac/gel polish change. My cuticles were not addressed, my hands were not soaked. As quickly as my polish came off, new was applied. And boy - was it applied poorly. The polish had bubbles in it, the coat was uneven, some was stuck to my skin and as I walked out of the salon it was already lifting. My nails had sharp edges and were uneven. You're probably all saying, "Why didn't you say anything?" Because I shouldn't have to. I was a first time customer, and for me, first time is all about observation. If I like what you do - I'll be back & I will be more specific in my services. However, straight out of the gate, I like to see what you're working with. Skip this place. Not worth it. read more

Called to ask if they did liquid/builder gel. They assured me they did and told me if I came down there would be no wait. Upon arrival, another staff member told me they only offered powder gel and that there was nothing they could do... could not even file my nails down. read more

I've lived in Detroit for almost 3 years, and have yet to find a place that takes the time to care for my nails. All the places I've gone to previously, rush you out, take off your nails by ripping them off, and don't care about you or the health of your nails. All of this, led me to try number one nails in Ferndale. And when I tell you I had the best experience! I got a previous full set of acrylic nails removed and had a new set put on with shellac ( gel) nail polish on the top. I had two hours for lunch (I work in downtown Detroit) and when I say they took the time to work on my nails for close to three hours i'm not exaggerating. From carefully soaking off my previous nail polish and full set, to taking the time to get the length and shape I wanted exactly how I wanted it, the nail technicians took their time and the work came out excellent. No snags, built up acrylic underneath the nail, or ununiform nail shapes! Better yet, I had great conversation with both the nail technicians and the other customers there. One customer even raved about how she goes every week and always has consistent and beautiful work done. My soak off, full set of acrylic, and gel manicure cost $48, and for almost three hours work, I feel this is extremely fair. Plus it's better for my natural nails. Needless to say, this will be my regular Nail Salon from now on. read more

I got my first shellac manicure done here yesterday. I walked in, it was a Saturday morning, and didn't have to wait. The guy who did my nails, Nam, was friendly and talkative. Turns out, he bought the business several months back and is the new owner as of Fall 2014. The manicure was quick, professional, and affordable. $20 for a no-frills shellac polish, and it looks amazing. This place could easily become my go-to spot. read more

A friend suggested #1 Nails back in the fall. I haven't gone anywhere else since! I especially like Nam and Ms. Dawn. The establishment is just big enough to accommodate a decent amount of people. I always get the shellac polish. I'm a musician so I use my hands a lot and the polish really keeps nicely! They grow out after about two or so weeks and then I have them removed and re-done. Pretty simple. Highly recommended! Oh! Pretty color selections too! read more

Visiting from another state where I struggle to find a good nail salon. I am skeptical of going into new places because I am very picky. This salon was one of the every few with OPI "no chip" (Shellac). My mani and pedi came out perfect and the polish was perfect. I am big on how a nail salon polishes. Job Well done. I will always come back! Prices were very reasonable. I could have used a few more minutes of massaging on both hands and feet but I will not complain. read more

I've been going here for about 3 or less years. It's gotten worse since the covid restrictions dropped. They don't clean and sanitize between clients. They use the same tools between clients without sanitizing them. I've never seen the pedi bowls washed between clients. The whole salon looks disgusting and unclean. They upcharge for every little thing including "manicures/pedicures" they RARELY include nail/skin care: dont require us to wash hands, no attention to cuticles, over using the UV lights, over soaking in acetone when they are busy, no massages. Im usually covered in nail dust when they remove previous overlays, from my hair to my work clothes; they never look at you to notice or care. Only thing they include is oil at the end of manis and lotion at the end of pedi. The actual people are nice but just poorly trained and don't know how to run a business well. I'm concerned now with the health of my natural nails now and will not be returning. read more

I was taken back by my $87 bill for shellac, pedi and arch. I was told the total was $67, initially , but it suddenly changed after I paid partial cash. I had been having shellac and arches several times before thus $40 increase and in a ver inconsiderate manner. Also, the place need to be sanitized. I Am okay paying for top quality service, but his is far from the top. read more

Follow up to my review. My pedicure chipped within 1 week. I can't recall the last time I had a pedicure chip that quickly. The establishment is filthy, they don't seem to follow any of the health precautions that other salons follow like plastic lined bowls or fresh tools. The "deluxe" pedicure doesn't include massage, in fact they "don't do" massage there, which is also crazy! They try to use the cheese grater thing which is horrible for your feet. All around horrible experience. 0/10 read more

I really never leave reviews but I just wanted to warn the customers that you have to stay alert and really get on them about the customer service they should be providing. Long story short (because it is a long story but I don't want to give them any more of my time) I took my daughter in for a mani pedi for her and a mani pedi for myself with an acrylic soak off. My friend recommended Jessica so I made an appointment. When I got there, Jessica greeted me but then passed my daughter and I off to two other nail techs. Everything was fine until my nail tech tried to skip my manicure until I spoke up and then gave me a half-done manicure. I had to ask for simple things like cuticle care and lotion! My daughter was on the other side getting her nails done. We showed the nail tech the picture of the design we wanted (the first pic) and the nail tech said he could do it. When I was done with my nails I walked over to my daughter and saw these random messy lines on her nails that are supposed to be clouds. The nail tech wouldn't fix them and didn't know how and they charged me the full price even though they messed her nails up. When Jessica asked me what was wrong, I showed her my daughters nails and she laughed, acknowledging that the other nail tech did a bad job and still proceeded to ring me up full price. I stated that I'd the nail tech didn't know how to do the design, he should have just said that! Instead of arguing more with them, I just paid because I knew I would never go back, plus my daughter was tired and hungry after a long day of school and being in the nail shop. Once we got home, my daughter said she never got a manicure, either- that they just painted her nails. So I was charged for services I or she never received! She's 10 so she didn't know any better. Anyway, that is the LAST time I will go there and I will encourage you all to never go there either. I know their prices are cheap but you truly get what you pay for. read more

My dip only lasted for two weeks. I live in Dallas TX & the Black woman here does an excellent job! I'm use to my nails lasting a month or longer depending on how long I keep them on. I did not find the same type of expertise in this area or at this salon. The price was good though. read more

I just had Shellac done by a woman named Gina (yes I caught her name because she is that good) and Im so happy of the results. The last several times Ive had shellac done anywhere the shellac lifted near the cuticles and began peeling. She did it correctly where it rounded to my nail, so no lifting at all. Going on 2 weeks and in great shape. Havent had my shellac taken off from there so I have no opinion on this. Dont ask for her since I want to keep her for myself! read more

Here visiting from Connecticut, and made an appointment for a dip mani. Jessica was my tech and she was FANTASTIC. I literally told her she was perfect when I walked out the door. Took her time, made sure my nails looked exactly like I wanted them (no thick dip, no duck bills.. these nails look totally natural and gorgeous). 20/10, highly recommend :) I'll be back next time I'm in town! read more

this place really disappointed me today. I was getting a pedicure and it felt rushed. my nails were clipped uneven and my baby toe nail clipped completely off, which she tried to hide by painting my skin. I told the women doing my nails that I have psoriasis and that it's ok if she uses lotion, and I understand if people aren't used to seeing this kind of skin. She decided to spray alcohol all over my legs which burned me to the point of crying. Management offered me a refund but then rescinded. He told me it was my fault that I decided to have a pedicure with my skin, I usually go to Nails 07 in Royal oak and I'm sorry I didn't go there today, they don't make me feel bad about my skin. read more

I suppose it's the norm for staff to be rude at these privately owned nail salons..HOWEVER, as a new paying customer you'd think they'd avoid arguing over matching gel with toe polish! After the man swears!!!! Cause he bought it that both my pinks for my bday nail are the same, sure enough it's NOT!!!! My OCD ass realized not a moment after leaving! Nonetheless I'm not the type to go back and complain over that! The issue is my gel polish and toes are all chipped and it's not even a week out!!! Total waste of money and time! I won't be back!!!!! read more

Nails were done nicely; however, dip did not last more than a week and a half before chipping.

Perfect mani/pedi at a very reasonable price. So glad this place is as good as it is, it's literally a block from my house :)

#1 Nails is the best! They are highly professional! The nails techs and even their clientele is classy. Not a lot of unnecessary chit-chat, just the busy of my nails. I have nail beds that require tender 'lovin" care and I can get quality care @ #1 Nails. My naturals are they shortest on the planet....when they get finished with my nails.....my gel nails are thin and look soo real. The spa is super clean and they exercise a sanitary environment. The decor is up-scale with state of the art equipment. Zen atmosphere.....nice! I love this place!! Robin, Detroit read more

I will never attend the nail salon ever again. They are unprofessional. I called ahead of time to confirm that they were available for walk in service, the woman on the phone told me to come at that moment. As soon as I got there, the salon was closed 2 hours earlier than the expected time on Sunday's (11-4). I picked this salon from the great rating but from my first experience it was TERRIBLE . Wasted time to rush to the salon just for it to be closed early unexpectedly after being on the phone 20 min prior! NEVER AGAIN !! read more

I wanted somewhere clean, reliable, quick and with great designs so I tried this salon and I am completely satisfied. The prices are reasonable, the personnel are friendly and I hate waiting so I call for same-day appointments and avoid the wait. They not only do nails and pedicures but they offer a wide range of services including massages. After a couple of times they remember you by name and are very personable and make you feel right at home. Everyone I have referred there has always been satisfied with their services. Having tried many salons in the area, I won't go anywhere else! The new owners have been welcoming since the day they opened. They are timely and their work is the best quality you'll find. I had a great experience at this place. It's affordable and they did a great job. I am very pleased with my mani and pedi. I will return.

Had a good experience. The gentleman did a very good job on my manicure and pedicure. My only issue is them not wanting to do a UV topcoat saying it would crack over regular polish. I've never had that happen. So I asked if they had quick dry and they didn't and wouldn't you know it, I messed up 1 nail trying to leave and another trying to get in the car. Please buy some quick dry topcoat. You can get it across the street at CVS for $8. Other than that, a good experience. read more

I love this place! They are efficient and accommodating! I've been going here over a year and I'm aways happy with my nails! Cost is comparable to other nails salons if not a tad less! Rachel is my go-to girl, I'd recommend her and this nail salon to anyone! read more

#1 nails, I have been going there a long time nearly 3 years, I like it better than other places in the local area. But lately their bedside manner is a lot to be desired. Every time I get my nails done they act stand offish like well another job I have to do. Every time they do my nails they don't smile or say how happy they are that I came in or bother to carry a conversation with you. They charge different prices. The last time I went in the lady gave me a crooked nail she filed it to much on one side. The shop is very clean compared to other places. read more

My daughter and I recently visited this facility about a month ago to enjoy a mother-daughter outing. Wow, what a terrible let down. We left this experience feeling we had been robbed, not because of the cost, but because of the horrendous service! Before the technicians had finished their work, they asked for payment. Our nails looked like someone had hacked the nails off. They were uneven and poorly polished. My technician said it was his first day on the job. The owner said if we came back I would get my nails done for free. No thank-you! I suggested he better train his staff. read more
