Good service average orange chicken... average rice (not jasmine) Very good bourbon chicken

I was excited to eat here. I was very impressed with the workers. Very nice and courteous. I was also impressed with the very pregnant woman still working hard. However the quality is just not there. The rice was wet and not a quality product like jasmine The orange chicken had a scorched taste and very little orange flavors. The bourbon chicken however was a pleasant dish.

It's funny that I usually find these similarly-named places in areas where there aren't many other food places around. I'm visiting friends in Ohio and wanted to see what takeout options were for lunch over the weekend. The establishment is tucked in a strip back from the busier road that is in front of the Giant Eagle grocery store to the side. The inside looked better than some small hole in the wall places. It was warm inside. They had a beverage fridge to one side. I was amused by the grass jelly drink cans sitting inside on a lower shelf. For lunch, you receive fried rice and an eggroll with your entree. For dinner, you receive white rice. For an appetizer, I ordered their hot and sour soup. This was atypical, with celery, baby corn, carrots, water chestnuts, and snow peas added. (There's one other ingredient that may be zucchini.) It seemed to be missing bamboo shoots and other mushrooms/fungus besides button ones. The sour was a bit light, there was a lot of white pepper taste (and I felt the spiciness was coming more from this instead of the red pepper), and the consistency of the soup was very thick. It made me feel like I was eating the flavor equivalent of simple pancit but in a soup form. Maybe this was an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink recipe. ^.^" For entrees, we ordered General Tso Chicken, Honey Chicken, and Orange Chicken. All of the fried chicken and sauce looked exactly the same upon opening the containers. My friends tasted each of them and thought we probably had the right ones. They've ordered there before, but probably not all of these at once. I already thought mine was mine because of the few, small, thin shavings of orange peel in my container, and there was an O written on the lid of mine. The orange flavor wasn't strong in the sweet sauce. Based upon texture, I think they use dark meat. Some of the chicken pieces were still crisp and they were not overbattered. The white rice was a bit mushy and stuck together in clumps. I wonder how their fried rice compares. For service, the lady that took our orders didn't smile and seemed quite annoyed to have customers. She answered questions though and promptly went to the back with the cook to start I assume. She later was found, near the kitchen, on her phone while the cook was still making the dishes. She eagerly went to the back with her phone after we accepted the food in a shallow box, and after she pointed out that the plastic utensils, napkins, and packaged condiments were to the side. My friend had to keep calling out to try to get her attention shortly after to ask about extra sweet sauce for their eggrolls. She left so fast. Overall, the food is hot, edible, and I didn't get sick. My friends enjoyed their meals as a it is what it is: American Chinese food. Normally, based on customer service, I wouldn't want to return because I felt like she didn't want us to be there, but, again, there isn't much for choices in the area. Maybe it was a slow day, as we were the only ones there waiting, and she wasn't in a good mood that day. I wouldn't order the same items though. I may try their kung pao chicken next time based upon the ingredients they have. I'm also curious about their roasted pork, so I may check back.

We had a lovely time though we weren't thrilled about sitting in the tiny side room at the tiny 4-person bar with our backs to the room...it felt cramped. Our server helped us choose the perfect bottle of wine from an extensive collection. The apples and rice appetizer was excellent..like arancini balls. My husband had the duck and liked it. I had the lumache which was just ok. The pasta was a little too al dente and the large clumsy shells didn't seem like the right shape for the delicate dish. It was supposed to come with shrimp, but surprise...nope! It came with lobster. I find lobster a bit sweet and thought shrimp would have worked better. This girl is usually in the clean plate club when it comes to pasta and seafood dishes but not tonight. I will say that the dessert alone was worth the one hour drive.. the smoked smores arrived with a bell jar of smoke which the server whisked off to reveal a delectable gooey to-die-for cake smothered in caramel and marshmallow. Did I mention it came with two cups of hot white chocolate to pour over the whole thing? Omg..drool-worthy.
