I signed up for their service in Rio Rancho Area, they told their service plan starts from $40/month. I was surprised by their other charges, apart from installation fee $100, I was told I had to pay for the antenna which costs $300. So I agreed to that, then I later found out that it is only $300 if you pay it one time (OR)$348 if you pay in one year, 2 year $360 if you choose to pay in installments. This is bad as the agents don't tell it and expect the customers to read everything and educate ourselves and blame us for signing the document. In any case I was only aware of this after 2 months of installation so of course the rate should be prorated because I was willing to payoff the antenna. The customer service agent told me I owe $326 for the antenna inspite of me making 2 payments already($30.20). They wouldn't prorate the amount for me which is an additional $2.5 a month. They simply stated that since I signed a two year contract (never did, that's the default one) and I owe $360 for antenna because of that. The contract only gives 2 options 1.Pay $300 or 2. Pay $15 for 24 months. It doesn't say you the total amount you pay which is $360 if you choose the second option. Not only you are required to read the contract but in this case you are also required to calculate the net amount if you choose installment. So in short, I paid $55 extra for the antenna and a total of $355 (since I didn't know and used 2 months installment I paid $5 extra). I would advise anyone to make a one time payment and get $60 off which nobody will tell you. I hope this helps others. Also see if they'll allow you to use your own antenna. As far as internet service goes, some outages like an hour every 2 weeks. Speed is as promised. Equipment Lease or Purchase: 1 year lease to own - $29 per month =$348 (calculated value, not in agreement) 2 year lease to own - $15 per month =$360 (calculated value, not in agreement) One time purchase - $300.00 By default they sign you up for the 2 year lease and if you make the payment early you still owe the full difference like in my case which makes no sense because interest should be accrued daily, it's not a flat rate. NM Surf was, in my experience, an embarrassingly bad internet provider. The service was extremely slow, the customer service was consistently awful, and the entire operation felt petty and amateurish. What pushed it from bad to absurd was being told that I was supposedly in breach of contract for leaving a negative review online, and that under their contract they had the right to shut off our internet until the review was removed. That was the explanation given to me when our service was cut off. If that is really how they choose to treat paying customers, it says everything anyone needs to know about this company. Even the interaction where this was explained was spectacularly obnoxious. The tone was smug, rude, and bizarrely self-satisfied, as if this were a normal way to run a business. We switched to Starlink, and the difference has been immediate and obvious. It has been night and day: faster, more reliable, and run by people who apparently understand that customers are not hostages. Two tin cans tied together with a piece of twine would have been a more respectable internet solution than NM Surf. I would not recommend NM Surf to anyone. read more

We've had NM Surf for several months after leaving a very unsatisfactory national internet providing company. The speed now is great. We've lost internet a couple of times (Lost it often with previous company), but rec'd notification if there was a system-wide issue. And we've lost service due to a glitch in our personal antennae. In all cases, customer service was available 24/7 and was very helpful. Just talked with Alston in tech support who was extremely helpful in navigating access to our password. It's not inexpensive, but certainly worth it to have greatly improved speed, access to friendly and competent service. read more

I've had this service since December 2023. Service had been great, a few drop offs. I can't get Xfinity here where I live and all the other ISPs are slow. WiFi went out. Called IT support and told them it might have been from lightning the day before. Charged me $150 service fee to even schedule an appointment and couldn't get a tech out for 9 days. No credit for the time my service was out because lightning or elements aren't covered incidents. Found out they could have put a ground on my antenna from the get go which would have mitigated this whole fiasco, but it wasn't offered at installation. I would leave 0 if I could. This company is such a scam. Our service went out back in May and after paying for months of service we weren't receiving they wanted to charge $150 to have someone look at it. We paid, it worked. Fine. A few months later, the same thing happened and they again wanted to charge us the $150 and this time we said no. We decided to change providers but nobody told me we had to have an official document requesting termination even though it was confirmed over the phone that I had cancelled service. So, I find out they had been charging us all along without service anyway but now I had to pay $200 to terminate our "contract". I have probaly paid this company over $1000 this year in fees, service calls and bs despite not having service for most of it. Back in May when I had the first problem they had sneakily labeled what I thought was a service request to have someone look at my antenna; "service request RENEWAL". It was actually a year long contract for service that I only had for two months since the exact thing happened again. They made me pay the rest of the year with no credit or refund, and TERRIBLE customer service. Basically it was my fault my service wasn't working since I decided not to pay for the second technician to come out to fix their "unknown problem." After doing some digging, the company is listed as permanently closed on google so you can't leave reviews and isn't listed on BBB. Do not trust this company. Total scam. I tried their service for a month (April-May 2024). Installer was friendly and professional. Initial speed test was excellent ... but I started getting disconnects, 5-to-30-second blips without service. This makes interactive sessions difficult, and renders video calls impossible. I reported, with data (I run a ping logger). They started to diagnose, ran ping tests on their end, then closed my ticket saying "1% packet loss is acceptable". Sure, scattered over the course of a day, but not clustered together in a many-second outage. I kept reopening, they kept closing. Blamed my wifi (I'm on Ethernet), blamed my router (I ran a ping logger from an external CoLo host to the antenna itself, it confirmed 10-to-30-second outages). They said "that's the nature of the Internet". Okay, well, that was an expensive month but it didn't work out. That's not acceptable service in 2024. I canceled ... and they charged me $210 for "early termination without cause." They have no SLA (only "five or more days outage"), and I knew this coming in but trusted that they would act in good faith, make efforts to resolve problems and keep customers. They did not. I consider them bad-faith actors, and wish to warn others against them. I was naïve. I'm like that a lot. I like to extend trust--that's how societies work. Very unethical and heartless business. They have it set up to where you can not contact management on your own. Speeds not even close to what is promised, had to sign a 1 year contract, two remote workers at home, had to split time some days to get work done, calls to them oh everything looks good on our end...... Let the contract run out and had to get another provider. Also, my mother is 77 years old with demntia, I am in the process of taking over her finances, her partner died in october, he took care of bills, services and contracts. Apparently NM surf dupped him into a 2 year contract. My mom is computer illeterate and can hardly remember any transaction when she goes to businesses. She fell heavily into debt prior to me steeping in, she barley brings in any money, with her current debt and income, it will take 6-8 months to pay off her debts. We moved her out of her house two months prior to the NM Surf contract ending, so she owes the 2 months, but not using their service. I called in to see if they could provide some kind of relief for my mom and her situation, they said oh sure we will set up a payment plan. Not very reliable service and they blame everything on you not themselves. They basically call you a liar when you tell them their installation was bad and you had to go on the roof and fix what they failed to do correctly. Blamed my router for their problems. I consider this a win-win for both parties. NMSurf keeps $150 for doing nothing and I narrowly escape having to deal with them. I'm in Tierra Colinas, between Lamy and Eldorado off Spur Ranch Rd, somewhat rural. Struggling with advertised 40Mbps, actual 25, CenturyLink connection (told I am too far for anything faster) , I had been told that NMSurf was the only way out, so I scheduled. Questions I had about equipment and the installation I was told, would be answered by the installer at the $150 installation appointment. So, (sound of toe tapping in background), do you want to schedule or not? I am grateful to the manager who would not talk to me, for no one else willing or able to answer questions, an installer who said he had to be somewhere else, and the now strong feeling that this company doesn't seem to care very much about customers. Because it caused me to cancel the installation and only then did I discover that 5G is available in my area. I've been with Verizon for twenty years or so and had assumed that if Verizon doesn't offer it, which they don't, no one does. But this experience drove me to dig deeper. I clicked on the T Mobile site to check coverage and was shocked, truly, to find it available out here. When my father died and I canceled his service, I received a bill for $315 for early termination. When I called them, they said they would gladly waive the fee if I sent the death certificate. I sent it out to them and received an email that they will not waive and it and instead would charge it to the estate! The issue isn't necessarily the early termination fee, it is that people at NM Surf told me one thing on the phone and then sent me a number of emails stating their language in the contract doesn't cover death. NMSurf wants to charge $150 an hour to fix our connection. A connection that they installed. The technician pointed the antennae at the tower in the distance, weaving the signal between two trees, according to the office manager Will. When asked why would our signal be cut off by trees, Will said "trees grow." When I asked why would they try to weave a signal between trees if they knew trees grow and would cut off the signal, he said "well there is no guarantee trees grow because we live in a desert." I told him it seems pretty fishy and maybe a bit corrupt that they would do something that they know they could charge a lot of money for later in our service contract. I also wondered how could a tree all of a sudden grow enough to cut our service over night. Will the office manager then informed me that our service speed has been declining since May. We were able to work from home, using our internet service until just a day ago. Now Will the office manager says our service was steadily getting worse. But they did not bother to inform us of this observation. I feel like I should not be charged $150 an hour for their designed obsolescence. This really feels like a scam by NMSurf to get more money on top of the monthly fees we pay them. I had high hopes when I signed up for NM Surf and optimistically overlooked some really unfavorable language in the contract that grossly disadvantages the customer. A subcontractor installed my equipment. Nice guy but he used indoor Cat 5e cable for the exterior run and claimed it was outdoor rated even after I called him out on it. The service is commonly unreliable. I contracted for 50 mbps service (max supported from my location), which I got much of the time, but as frequently, I got less than 25 mbps. The contract stipulates this is "within specification". Why I am I paying for 50 if I am only getting 25? Slow downs are often related to weather. I called with service outages on 6/14, 6/16, 6/21, 6/23, 6/29, 6/30, 7/14, 8/6. I documented many more in a ping log, but didn't actively call tech support. The problems were never related to my equipment and frequently related to the "tower you are connected to" with various problems. The problem always got address expeditiously, but this speaks to reliability. I got a call from the tech guy one time to address slow speeds; he removed the speed limiter to test and my download speed jumped to 124 mbps (!!!). He put the speed limited back on and my speed immediately dropped to 42 or less. The tech said "that is within specification", told me it was fast enough to do anything I needed to do online, said "I'll continue to work on it" and then hung up on me (8/8/2022). The next morning, my speed was indeed better - 60 mbps briefly, but then returned to 20-25. I am putting all this detail in here because I want to be factual, not just a complainer. Subjectively, I found nearly every contact with tech support to be friendly, but universally unapologetic for the frequent downtime and slowdowns. I contacted NM Surf to cancel my contract citing failure to cure the repeated outages and slowdowns, expecting to be let out of my contract per the terms. I got a scathing, very rude, response back from a manager, requiring me to pay a $300 early termination fee. He also incredulously claimed I was sending on average 43.5 GB of data up and down per day. I do backup to the cloud, but that is craziness. I have been tracking data in my modem since switching and I'm averaging 7 GB per day. Something wrong with their system, and regardless, I paid for it so. Some highlights from the contract: "Termination: Either Party may terminate this Agreement for cause provided written notice specifying the cause for termination". Apparently not. "Without prior notice, NMSURF may terminate this Agreement". I recommend reading the contract before you commit. This section is telling about the quality of the service you can expect: "Speeds: NMSURF does not guarantee that you will receive the speeds subscribed to due to the inherent nature of the Internet. Our goal is to get you speeds that are better than the plan below your current plan that you are subscribing to. If at any time you believe that you are not receiving at least 50% of your subscribed to plan, a technician will troubleshoot your connection remotely and at that point will determine if a service technician will need to be sent to your premises. If you are on an up-to plan, speeds can vary from 3Mbps to the top speed of your plan depending on the time of day. Subscriber understands and agrees that speeds are not a cause-able reason to terminate this agreement." I have had internet service with many companies over the last 3 decades. By far this is the least reliable. The inherent reliability of the internet does NOT drop speeds from 50 to 3 mbps. I am with a new provider, same price, getting speeds between 100-150 down, never drops below 50 even in weather and has not dropped entirely ever (so far). You have been informed. NMSurf provides adequate service for New Mexico only at certain times. what I mean by this is that the download and upload speeds are adequate and high most of the time but for gamers this internet sucks because what it does is gets you high download speeds for like 5 minutes and then the internet randomly cuts out for a few seconds and comes back on which in turn kicks you out of the game. The internet has enough speed to join the game it's just very inconsistent and sometimes i even just turns off and turns back on. overall, if you can avoid NMSurf do so and go with something like XFinity but if it's all that's avalanche in your area, its not the worst but definitely not the best. My only other complaint is their terrible customer service, you post an honest review and Ali F comes attacking you when you're sharing your honest opinion about the service, definitely an easy way to lose business. This internet is a good internet if you just use it for texting, calling or for TV/YT. Streaming long movies is decent just buffers and definitely not the internet for gaming. read more

I have only been with NMSurf for a few months now but have been very pleased with my experience so far. The gentleman that installed our equipment was great, I believe his name was Chaz, I am sure that is not quite right but I forgot to ask how to spell it. I requested an early appointment due to some medical issues. Chaz called while on his way to let us know when he would arrive. The installation went well and looks good. When the install was done everything was picked up, I didn't even find any little pieces of the wire from the network cable. I wish more installers like him! I was surprised by the people that said things were added to the install price. Before they came out they made me aware or what was included in the price quoted. They asked me if I needed a wifi router and if so they could sell me one or I can get my own. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and was priced just as quoted. The service has been fast and reliable. The speed does vary some but that can be due to the speed of the site connected too. The service is faster than my Verizon high speed that I get through my wireless connection. As a matter of fact it is at least twice as fast. And the hotspot from Verizon was throttled to less than the DSL speeds I was getting from CenturyLink. Streaming is so much better with this service, no more buffering and I truly believe the picture quality is better. Downloads take so little time anymore that I don't have to spend half a day downloading updates. I am guessing it will take Verizon another several years before their 5G Home Internet gets this far and I was through waiting. read more

NMSurf tech Tyler came to install 2 days ago. Time window was 12-3pm and he arrived (calling ahead, timeliness much appreciated) at 12:30. The install took about 1hr and when he was done I tested the connection myself at about 29Mbps down, 7.8Mbps up - a bit more than the 25Mbps rate package I signed up for (very encouraging). Tyler was professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. He made effort to locate the dish out of site from the entry side of my house yet still getting good line of sight to the Sandia Crest base station. The hardware I believe is a Ubiquiti Rocket series device - appears to be current gen new in box hardware. The dish and mount are larger and sturdier than the previous provider's equipment on my roof. Protip- if you're using your own router, have it set up and ready to connect - not required but helpful. Also, Tyler mentioned a UPS or at least surge suppressor for your network hardware are very worthwhile in the East mtns as he described examples of repeated electrical storm damage without those. Time will tell if NMSurf can continue to deliver these data rates, but I did quite a bit of research on options in my Tijeras area and this company appeared best. I will update my review in a couple of months after my family puts it to the test, but so far I strongly recommend NMSurf. The five stars are for initial experience in comparison to many other reviews for various P2P providers I have read. read more

I was a 10 year customer of NMSurf and was fairly happy with their service, especially since there were NO other options where I live. I was just grateful I had service! Im an IT profeessional and understand there are occasional outages due to equipment problems. When a problem did occur, NMSurf Support resolved it quickly, unless they had an outage due to equipment failure. Of course, sometimes the problem was my own internal router equipment which is not their responsibility. I would have continued using their service, but when I was up for renewal I actually read the contract prior to signing and noticed very anti-free speach wording within it related to posting any negative reviews about NMSurf. This was in July 2022, so I don't know if that language still exists in their contracts under the "Reviews" section. Basically, I refused to sign under those conditions, which effectively terminated my service with them. Luckily, I have the engineering skills and was able to install a cellular system, which worked well enough, while I waited for Starlink to send me a dish. Since I've had Starlink, I've had exactly 1 outage. I do like working with local companies over huge corporations. But in this instance NMSurf had taken a very small minded path and forced me to find a solution elsewhere. So I take off 1.5 stars for that, and 1 star because they did have outages more often than other local providers. There is a reason this company has such abysmally low ratings. Less than 6 months ago I spent several thousand dollars on equipment (rather than renting it from them for a 25% increase). I explained in advance that my work was dependent on reliable internet. I was assured they were up to the task. About two weeks ago they notified subscribers of an equipment upgrade. Ever since that upgrade my internet service has been horrible. I am bumped off it 4 or 5 times a day. It has been slow, and suddenly the bandwidth is inadequate for my work needs. This is all a huge inconvenience by itself. Other people depend on me to be able to do my job which has been grievously effected. Now you'd think that the company would bend over backwards to correct the situation. Unfortunately it's the opposite. These people don't give a damn about customer service. I was told "it looks okay on our end." And they invited me to step away from my work I order to bring the malfunctioning mesh unit to their offices. I work and I cannot take time off to do this. I explained this to them. They offered, for 100$ a hour, to come to my house to fix the problem. I declined. The only alternative was for me to drop the malfunctioning mesh unit off at their offices. I took time off my work in order to do that. I arrived at their office with the unit in hand only to be told "we need the other unit too." Are you kidding me? Not once was I told that they needed my entire internet system. I was repeatedly told to "drop the mesh unit off at their offices." The employees here are awful. Six months ago I was sold equipment for a lot of money that has crapped out. They expect that an internet dependent working person can take huge chunks of time out of their workday OR spend $100 per hour to fix equipment that should still be under warranty. Regular outages....8-12 hours at a time, at least twice a month. An hour or two once or twice a week. Not meeting contracted speeds at least once a day. I've been a long term customer for many years, 10+. Not always so bad but Outages in the past 18 months are out of hand. I understand lots of people are working at home but this has been going on for a while. I've had to open a ticket at least once a week....not to mention the times I can't open a ticket because their website and phone lines are down. This is my current situation and has been the case about three times in the past two months. Buyer be aware!!!!! It's really frustrating the manager has the nerve to respond to another review with "people just complain on Yelp".....so I can tell you my experience with the employees of nm surf has been mostly positive, overall I would say employees are attentive and helpful.....the reason why I'm "complaining" on Yelp is because nm surf phone and internet has been down for over 12 hours today, so I can't "complain" directly by opening a ticket. I would need to drive to the office and knock on the door....or realize we're in the middle of a pandemic and "complain" on yelp. ‍...Just asking to receive the service I'm paying for!!!!!! read more

I really love the internet service I get from these guys, and also love that I get to support a local company instead of a big conglomerate. As other negative reviews will attest, the customer service from NMSurf leaves a lot to be desired. My contract ended in July and I was switched to the (much higher) month-to-month plan. I've already acknowledged to NM Surf that this was technically my fault and was perfectly in keeping with the agreement I signed. Nonetheless, I don't feel it's unreasonable to have expected some kind of notification of the switch/higher billing amount, which I never received. When I asked about this/requested assurance I would be notified in the future the company representative was condescending, implied that I had probably just missed the email and proceeded to keep blaming me for not being up on all of my contract's fine print. And again, she was technically correct. I just expect a bit more humanity, compassion and flexibility--and a little less of a "gotcha with the fine print" attitude--from a small local company. read more

Was a customer for 23 months and had to pay $123 (the rest of the contract) Now I am leaving the state not just canceling and seeing as you don't provide service in Az I think it's crap I have to pay the fees. Also the manager and billing manager just said well sorry you feel that way, totally dismissive get internet anywhere else My bank sent my auto payment check out before I stopped it. So they got my months payment after I canceled. I called and asked Amber if she could shred it, no problem. Then I realized my bank already took the money out so they won't refund the money to my account with out the actual check. So I again called and talked to Amber and she said there would be a "return" fee if they mail me the check. When I asked how much it was she told me $30 or $35 because we have to return the check. They couldn't have just had some customer service and popped it in the mail. Hell I was willing to pay the fee to them if it was like $5. But $35 if RIDICULOUS!!!! So I called my bank and they stopped payment for FREE. Again another way for them to scam customers. They sent back the check. They really do want to make it things right so that's pretty awesome read more

Internet Services are absolutely horrible in La Cieniga, Santa Fe. We are paying just about $50 a month for 10mbps and the worst download speed I have ever seen. I have been trying to install an update for a video game on my PC for three days. the update is only 24gb. Would not recommend! read more

Internet speeds are fast, but customer service will refuse to reason with you when outages occur and your business is disrupted. I'd gladly change this rating if you would like to negotiate on that outage/price topic. Sent y'all an email already, you disregarded it. (Btw, the ladies in the office are nice to interact with from my experience over the years, it's the dudes that ruin it with being unreasonable) Email or call me if you want to talk. Including a man who identified himself as "in-house counsel" whose phone number was disconnected later the same day. Long time customer (over a decade). This local company keeps getting better. Its service and support have always been good, but recently they've gotten even better. NMSurf has constantly upgraded its network and improved its uptime metrics. We've enjoyed excellent connectivity speed and reliability. It's very cool to avoid being in the clutches of a huge national company and the impersonal (& usually mediocre support) that goes with it. I have been impressed over the years by the knowledge of NMSurf's technical staff. Will has been onboard for a long time -- he's a treasure. Honest 3.5 star small-biz company. They are the best Internet to those of us too far from cable or decent DSL. We switched from 1.5mb CenturyLink DSL to 3.5mb CNSP. The speeds have improved greatly to say the least. Love that I'm supporting a small progressive Internet company. The bad: I'm sure they are used to demanding customers and thusly haven't figured out how to deal with being supportive. I dread calling them with my problems for fear of getting my head bit off by one of their overconfident tech people. When I asked for a speed increase, they demanded a new contract. Very different from one of the big providers. It's nice to support the little guy but it can get annoying at times. You find yourself rooting for them, then they go and drop the ball with an 80's logo, web site, and technical support. If you can overlook the gloss, or lack-thereof, they are still the best in town for those on the edge of Santa Fe. read more
