I see online everyone is complaining about the service, which is odd to me, bc I have always received excellent service here. The issues I find here are not the customer service, it's that they are constantly out of things on the menu. They don't have soft-shell crab or real crab for the sushi rolls. They don't have uni or salmon roe, quail eggs etc., However, one time hubby & I were here & he had the most incredible pork katsu. He still talks about it. He said it was the best one he has ever had. I had some pork ramen, it was meh at best. The sushi we have had up to date has been ok. I love the Cucumber salad. The green tea they serve here is amazeballs. However, yesterdays Tuna Tataki blew me mind. Def my fave dish here so far. Can't wait to order it again! :)... I wanted to try the tuna tartar that comes with the quail egg but they didn't have any quail eggs yesterday, hence the 4 stars. Spent 16 years in the far East. Two tours of duty in South Korea, four years of active duty in Japan on the island of Okinawa, and another 10 years in federal civil service on Okinawa. I can say without a doubt that Nippon Sushi is as authentic as it gets, and that is everything on the menu as well. I usually get a bento box or a nice big bowl of ramen noodles. Very fantastic. There are only two things I'd like to see change: the chairs at the counter are a bit high and there's no foot rail. I'm not very tall and my legs and feet tend to dangle. A foot rail would help a whole bunch; the second thing is the wait staff is a little too eager in bringing the check as soon as you finish eating. I'm kind of feels like a bum's rush to get out of the place especially when there was no one around hardly it wasn't crowded. So please look into a those things. read more

I was stationed in okinawa for almost 4 years (2015-2018) and Raman was always my go to food. When I came back to the states, there was never a Raman place that compared to the real thing. Nippon Sushi is the only Raman shop that has gotten close. Everytime me and my family come here they have the best service and food and we always leave happy. The only real problem we've had with this place is sometimes they don't have some ingredients and I can't order my usual (I don't blame the owners though since it gets shipped). I recommend the kimchi Raman to anyone who loves some spice and their sushi is always fresh and delicious. If you are an alchohol drinker, I recommend their flavored sake. This place was an absolute diamond in the rough. The usual mall food has a consensus of being pretty mediocre but this sushi spot is amazing. The service was really good as well, everybody was really friendly and happy to have my girlfriend and I eat here. The ambiance was also very surprising as well, the scene swap from the mall to a restaurant was really surprising in the way Nippon was able to create an environment that made you feel comfortable while eating their delicious food! My husband and I both ordered the bang bang shrimp bento box and we were not very satisfied with how the bang bang shrimp was prepared because it was like a shrimp tempura bang bang shrimp and that is not how we are used to when it comes to bang bang shrimp. We also got miso soups and those were nice and hot and very tasty! We got the dumplings in the bento box and those were delicious and filled very well! Never does a day go by that I don't truly love everything and everyone at Nippon. Chuck and Anne, the owners, are a true gem in Pensacola, who also run Tai Pei on Airport, which is equally as delicious. But my husband and I LOVE getting ramen bowls (pork is the bee's knees) and the Chuck roll to split while we are out and a about. Their ramen is what we call our comfort food when we've had a hard day or week. We feel like Ponyo afterward and need a nap. Then our leftovers because the serving size is amazing! First, bad customer service as always server looks pissed and rushing to take your order and lastly the ramen was a big disappointment. Mini Reiteration Review Time: Nippon Sushi It is not very often I go into the mall, but I had to pick up a few things. I was absolutely starving at 2:00, so I figured why not get some ramen. Hopefully today's ramen is just as good as it has always been from this restaurant? This restaurant was still packed at 2:00, so I was very lucky that I was able to get a table today. The service here is always so friendly and fast. Today, I decided to try the Tantanmen Pork Ramen, which (as it says on the menu) is their spicy tonkatsu broth ramen. I also decided to try their udon noodles today, which I really enjoy due to the fluffy yet slightly dense texture of the noodle. I don't know what they put in this broth today (maybe a slipper or a whole pig), but this was by far the richest perfectly seasoned ramen broth I have had here in town today. The broth had a deep rich smooth pork flavor, not overly salted, and the chili oil just heighten the flavor; but not spicy at all. I loved the the slightly sweet cut up pieces of chashu pork, so I could enjoy it with each bite of my perfectly cooked udon noodles. I do think next time I will stick with just the regular ramen noodles, because the overall taste of the regular ramen noodles would have probably went better with the broth. This probably my very least sushi place to go... maybe just today im not sure but their sushi rice were overcooked. Im very particular with my sushi and this is not what I expect to have.. Overall the food was delicious. The ramen noodles were a little over cooked, the sushi rice was a little soggy, and the ramen noodle broth could be a little thicker. However, the nice red tuna and other fish tasted pretty fresh. The ginger was also fresh pickled ginger. What really intrigued me the most was the pop shrimp. It is like popcorn shrimp with spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce glazed with crab and some sesame seeds wrapped with a waffle cone. The tuna tataki was very different. Instead of ponzu sauce, it is drizzled with spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce. The tuna was well seared and it was delicious. The service was great. Nippon Sushi is inside Cordova Mall just past the food court. It's a small sit down restaurant. You can sit at the bar, a booth, or a table. We went at 4:30 on a Sunday and it was full except for the bar but we wanted a table so we killed some time walking around. When we came back 20 minutes later it was pretty empty. They close at 6 on Sunday. Food: Under 'Ramen' on the menu you can choose which meat and which broth you want. I chose pork with pork broth and it was outstanding! Lots of layers of flavor happening here. Very rich, smoky, not spicy at all, but sometimes you get some spice in the back of your throat for a second. It has 3 cuts of pork, one of them pork belly which adds to the unctuousness of the broth. I was SO impressed with this and so happy I ordered it! Good, good stuff. We tried the egg rolls and they had a funky flavor I couldn't discern. They were fine, but personally I wouldn't order them again. My son enjoyed his steamed salmon. I tried it and thought it tasted too fishy for me. The glaze is nice though. I tried his miso soup and it was very good! I didn't get a picture of my husband's meal until after he started eating. He was hungry because his entre came out about 10 minutes after ours, but and enjoyed his Pork belly and rice. They deep fry it, and it's very tasty with a nice 5 spice flavor. The fried rice still leaves something to be desired. It needed some soy sauce. I'd skip it and get steamed rice. The cucumber salad was just ok. The Dragon Maki sushi was good. I wasn't floored by it, but it was fresh, and if you add the wasabi, ginger, and some soy sauce it's even better. All in all everyone was pleased with their meals. The server was friendly and attentive. The food was moderately slow, but not too bad. We'd definitely go back and try other menu items. Sadly, this is the best place in Pensacola to get a bowl of ramen. I say the word sadly because I've just been privileged to have amazing ramen around the world. Here at Nippon Sushi, the taste of the broth and pork is actually pretty good/tasty. I'm pretty certain that they don't take hours and hours to make the broth and it's probably from some package, but it was acceptable, especially in the setting of the lackluster Pensacola Asian cuisine scene. The pork flavor was there and the noodles didn't taste like cardboard. It was easy to finish the bowl and subsequently sit back in satisfaction. Located in the Cordova Mall, you'll see lots of youngins hanging around here, dining-in or taking-out. If you need a ramen fix, this is my grade A recommendation (and only) in P-cola. read more

I do apologize for such a long post. I saw this place one day from shopping in the Cordova mall. Decided to finally try this place out with my sister and our kids. I have a 9 year old and a 10 month old baby. She has a 2 year old. To me, this is key to why I'm rating this place so poorly. When we arrived, the hostess had us wait about 5 minutes to be seated at our table. We get to the table and the hostess and waitress starts to walk away and I asked if they could grab me a high chair. The waitress just says "no". Okay..... No what? The hostess says they don't have high chairs. The waitress looked at us with agitation probably because we had 3 children with us. In a professional environment, just act professional. We can see your face. No problem, I have a portable booster seat out in my car and I went out to get it. When I get back, I see that there are only 2 cups of water on the table. We asked our waitress twice for some water for our kids. She comes back with just one cup of water. I mean, really? We were ordering boba tea for after dinner, that's why we only got water with our meals. We ended up ordering 4 ramen bowls and 1 roll of sushi and also 2 boba teas. Now that is a lot of food for just a couple of moms and 2 kids... with one only 2 years old! The ramen was bland and not too special. The spicy ramen was not spicy at all. We get our check and we see that there is a gratuity. The gratuity is for 20%. I feel this is something that should have been brought up in the beginning. We would have tipped regardless but they should have told us when they sat us down. Forcing us to tip 20% gratuity with mediocre service. When we called to complain, the owner said "it's on the sign 5 people gratuity is added". I didn't realize my 10 month old baby needed to be tended to. They didn't even have a high chair for her. They didn't give our 9 year old and 2 year old waters. So I guess I just don't understand how they were "serving 5 people". If I could give this place a 0 star rating, I would! This place is not family or kid friendly. If you don't want children in, just make the place 21+. Don't include in your people count if you don't have a seat for someone.
