Fish and chips. Not good.

Burger was excellent, fries were horrible as was the fish. Waitress disappeared often and was hard to track down. Cute place but loud.

Gord and I had a late lunch today at La Ninkasi du Faubourg ... we were walking up rue St.-Jean and it looked cute. The food menu isn't very extensive ... wings, pizza, French fries and nachos. We both ordered wings and a beer. When they came, they were spicy ... too spicy for Gord. They were okay, nothing special. .. baked with Franks Red Hot Sauce for dipping if you wanted them spicier. Gord liked the craft beer selection, though.

Overall I really like this place though I'm not completely sure why. The very limited food options are highly average at most. They do have my favorite québécois beers at the right price as well as some other solid options. The space is quite nice and very very large. You can choose to sit on one of two patios, the second I didn't discover until late at night which wraps above the side of the building overlooking a lively ruelle. The daytime life here is relaxed and chill. The evenings have nice vibe but are still a bit relaxed. This is a great place to take a group of friends of any size to meet up early and game-plan the day/night over drinks, or to stop in to end your night well. I'd check this spot out again on my next Québec trip.

An absolute beer haven for Unibroue geeks! Seriously, they had more Unibroue beers on draft than Unibroue's very-own restaurant in Chambly! My wife and I stayed within the walls of Quebec City for three nights but this was just a short walk outside the walls and well worth it! I thought we would only go here once and then try some other places but we ended up spending every night here! We never had any food. In fact, I don't even recall seeing a menu at night, nor people eating, but whatever... we were here for beer and beer they had! Keep in mind that there are different areas to visit inside Ninkasi. We often perched on a couch at the top of the stairs in the back and watched the Canadiens game on the wall. Downstairs was open and spacious for larger groups, but a couch was ample for us. There is also a staircase near the entrance that you can walk up that takes you directly to a smaller bar area upstairs. It feels more like a lively bar, which was fun for watching a bit of hockey, but I'd say the couch was our favorite area. Servers checked on us from time to time and we never had an issue getting a drink. I was concerned about the prices but they were perfectly acceptable for the beers we were getting. While there were some perfectly decent bars within the old city, they were often overpriced and lacked a great selection. Definitely make the trip out here if you're a Unibroue fan!

Alcohol and Karaoke? Sounds like a fun time. Unfortunately, nobody was singing during the time we got in, I guess still too early. At first, we sat down at a table downstairs and ordered a round of drinks from the cocktail waitress. Then our friend said the pool table area upstairs was empty. So we downed our drinks and paid for the table to migrate upstairs. Let me tell you, DAMN are their drinks STRONG here! My friend and I got a Kamikaze shot and gaaaaahd...it tasted like cleaning alcohol! It burned so bad. Normally, strong drinks are a good thing, but this...this was NOT good tasting at all. Luckily, we had better luck upstairs. Not only was the bar empty, but we had like the entire pool room to ourselves! Bar upstairs is CASH ONLY FYI! Good news, drinks are cheap! My friend and I went with the Sangria upstairs to be safe, and they serve it in a Pint glass! Yum! All that for only $9 too! Since we weren't sure how it would taste (thanks to the kamikaze downstairs), we asked if the bartender could split it into 2 glasses for us. She was glad to and still only charged us for one! It actually turned out good so we ended up getting a pint each for the 2nd round teehee. Upstairs also has a nice outdoor patio for smokers and you can also bring your drinks out up there. It's nice too that they have double heat lamps all around too. Staff here is very friendly. Great little dive bar to hang out and grab drinks at!

The hotel itself had also long been regarded as a must-see in Quebec City, though my friend and I found its lobby underwhelming. The bar, however, was in the back of the main floor and offered stunning views of the St. Lawrence River. We approached the host stand and asked if it would be possible to get a table for two on short notice and without a reservation. While we did not get seats with a view, we were thrilled to secure what seemed to be the lone remaining table. The room was cylinder in shape with a circular bar right in the center. The walls were either windows overlooking the River or bookcases of the classics. There were exposed lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling that provided the only real illumination in the dimly-lit bar. The place had a mix of industrial, rustic, and masculine vibes. It felt almost like a scientist's lair or a professor's library. Our server, Henry, was very refined, yet personable. He helped my friend navigate the mocktail list and ensure she was going to get a concoction that met her needs. Meanwhile, I loved perusing the cocktail list that explained the inspiration behind each of their custom beverages. I immediately selected the Apex, as it included many of my favorite ingredients. The martini had been inspired by The Great Gatsby and was composed of Bistro Vodka, ginger, a passion fruit and vanilla cordial, Suze, pineapple bitters, sesame, and prosecco. The bright yellow drink was topped with a hefty scoop of a ginger-lemongrass foam. The sesame, ginger, and lemongrass gave the drink an exotic, Asian flavor that was as delicious as it was unique. In addition to our drinks, the bar was nice enough to give each table a bowl of potato chips. The couple next to us was going through their snack fairly quickly, so, despite being full from dinner, I figured I needed to at least try a solitary chip. Sadly, they were just plain and nothing out of the ordinary, though they were a tasty rendition for sure. The 1608 Bar was a fun, intriguing, and gorgeous place. It certainly earned its spot of number 41 on Canada's 100 Best Bars list, for its creativity in particular. I would highly recommend grabbing a cocktail there, but I would suggest making a reservation first, as I think that we had just been lucky to get the last table.

However, 1608 Bar is accessible to visitors. After a day of exploring the city, we stopped in for a drink and were rewarded with a beautiful bar area with lots of comfortable seating and a world class view of the river. The drinks were imaginative and lovely. Snacks were promptly served, and the wait staff couldn't have been kinder. Highly recommend.

Lots of different sized tables. Ooh they have a shelf full of board games. Food: I don't drink but they have lots of craft beers and the couple next to me loved the amount they had on tap. When I first walked in the waitress walked by with what looked like a giant lasagna with salad and I thought oh I want that. When I looked at the menu I realized they don't have lasagna and I figured it must be the croques Monsieur. So that is what I ordered and that is exactly what came. It was very generous and full of cheese which was toasted golden brown it was really good. The salad was good too really fresh the dressing was good. I'm glad I chose it. Staff was nice. They spoke both French and English depending on what you were more comfortable with. I stumbled through French because I'm in Quebec I should speak French. I took the few steps up to the front desk where a host told me that the bar was first-come, first-serve, but that I could look for a spot. Thankfully, there was a stool open right in the middle, so I hopped up and made myself comfortable. The friendly server greeted me with a smile and handed me their vast menu, which included breakfast served until 2:00 pm, which sounded great to me at that moment. I started with a regular coffee, which was surprisingly bold and gave me the wake-up jolt that I needed to make it through another afternoon excursion and a busy evening. For my meal, I ordered the "Les deux œufs", which meant two eggs prepared however I wanted. I opted for scrambled egg whites, and despite forgetting to ask for them more on the well-done side, they were delivered as such. The fluffy whites were also very well-seasoned and flavorful. They were served with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, which had been coated in an oil that had been infused with fresh garlic and parsley. They were definitely on the greasy side, but were otherwise fantastic. I also had the option to select some sort of breakfast meat or fruit, so I went with the latter, which turned out to be fresh blueberries and strawberries that were kissed with sweetness. Lastly, the accompanying toast was from a real artisan loaf, not a package. It was, honestly, all delicious. Plus, they managed to have all of the food out to me within thirty minutes, even with the crowd and without me asking for a rushed order. I just wished La Buchette was a little closer to home!
