Are you kidding? I know great sushi when I eat/see/feel/smell good sushi, and unfortunately, this place was below the bar. With a cool name like Ninja Sushi, you'd think they'd live up to the name, but they are neither ninja OR sushi. Well, OK I might be exaggerating a bit since I mos def have had EXCELLENT sushi, but the sashimi at this place was the definitely not the 'Fresh' prince of...Gilroy. Bad fish smells like fish. I didn't bother eating mine at all because I didn't want to suffer from food poisoning...twice a year is enough. The salmon teriyaki was decent, but it sufficed since I was starving. The inari (Sweet tofu sushi) looked like it was fermented in the sun because the color was that of a mustard poop. Nonetheless, I ate it and it was OK, again....fresh is not something done at this place. We had the 'Wonderful' roll, which of course is an overstatement, but it was good. The vegetables inside of it were actually fresh and crispy! Finally..... I usually splurge on rolls when I hit up sushi joints, but good thing I took it safe and decided I'd order as I want, thus causing me to only order once. Service was fine. Utensils were dirty. This sushi spot is one of convenience. If you find yourself in Gilroy, and you need sushi... then Ninja is your only option. Thank God the sushi is good! My friend told this place was the best so i try it out. holy S*** this was good. the sushi were the best even though it had wasabi in some of them. Rice is better this time. But the tempera batter was kind of yucky. My bf's bento box chicken teriyaki was pretty dry. We ordered: 1 chicken bento box 1 hot sake 1 Asahi beer 1 Blueberry Crush (alcoholic mixed drink) 1 Shrimp tempera roll 1 Malibu roll (has macadamia nuts in it) 1 Kappa Makki roll All of this and our bill came out to be $68 + tax and tip! Ninja sushi and I have a love hate relationship. I've been here many times so I can wholeheartedly say that on average the service is pretty bad compared to almost anywhere else. Servers are generally inattentive and it takes a while to get your food. The quality of the fish is inconsistent so if you're a bit of a sushi snob it's a toss up (for instance on more than one occasion their fresh sake has been fairly chewy and stringy). With that being said, it's the only sushi joint in gilroy! The atmosphere is nice, the food is generally good and you get a lot for your money compared to other sushi restaurants. I enjoy going here everytime because I know what i'm in store for. I always leave full and happy. It sucks being ignored in a restaurant that's less than half full but I guess the good value, atmosphere and generally tasty sushi make up for it. read more

Randomly decided to come here after a quick browse of the Outlets. On the way there, I was thinking "Wow, Gilroy isn't the most appealing place to live". Anyways, the location is next to a Wienerschnitzel. Upon entering, we got a generic greeting as they were moving all over the place. A minute later, this cute waitress asks us if we could wait for a little bit to rearrange some tables. Come on now lady, I see 3 perfectly acceptable tables that me and my friend can sit in. As for the rolls, we had the Garlic City, Zoom Zoom, and the Spider Man roll. I got the Zoom Zoom roll because I found the name of the roll to be funny. The actual roll are in really huge portions and would require breaking into two pieces in order to eat it. The garlic in the Garlic City roll was way too strong to my taste, and I consider myself to be a fan of garlic. The Spider Man roll was average. My absolute favorite thing about this place is that on one side of the restaurant is a bar. Taking a brief glance at the alcohol they serve, they would get my stamp of approval. Even saw the good ol Johnny Walker Blue Label, which I enjoy but hate whiskey in general. Pros: Huge portions, prices are solid, nice looking bar, cute waitresses Cons: The wait can be slow, customer service is so-so Overall I gave it 3.5 stars. As far as I know, this was the first legit Japanese/sushi restaurant to open in Gilroy. My family and I can tend to be snobbish, and checked it out with great skepticism. We were blown away, and have continued to return year after year. All Nigiri are large chunks of fresh fish, and they offer a great variety -- I've eaten there many (20?) times, and occasionally the Ama Ebi (tail) and Hotate have that "chemical" hint, though that's not uncommon. The rest (Maguro, Hamachi, fresh Sake, etc.) has been phenomenal, and they occasionally offer Toro, Uni, Toro, etc.. The fact that they feature the fish, not the rice, is testimony to its quality. They expanded a couple years ago, more cocktails/TV's -- that, combined with a nice, extended menu satisfies the whole family. But I'm glad to say the quality of the raw fish hasn't suffered. The staff works hard and are friendly. Incredible variety of rolls/cooked stuff for all you folks who normally rip sushi restaurants for poorly cooked noodles and other nonsense. My friend and me got there when there was one couple eating on one of the tables, one couple in the sushi bar, and one man in the bar. We sat near the sushi bar and we didn't get any help for 27 mins. Our food took over 32 min to arrive to our table and it was cold. We both got teriyaki chicken and sushi. Decent sushi, decent service, decent prices. Nothing really stuck out to me here other than the fact that we didn't get any free soup or salad. The gyoza we ordered as an appetizer was pretty good. I did enjoy the Fire Fighter roll but the other 2 rolls I ordered were a bit bland (the Monterey + Garlic City rolls). I read the reviews here before visiting Ninja Sushi and one of the previous reviewers mentioned that Ninja Sushi uses too much rice in their rolls. I definitely have to agree. I had to cut most of the pieces in half in order to fit them in my mouth, and the Fire Fighter roll (which was a tempura roll), had an unnecessarily hefty layer of tempura around the outside. Pretty good for being one out of just two sushi bars in Gilroy. With that said, this place can get pretty packed depending on the day and time. Ninja offers good food, decent portions, and average service and prices. There's a pretty good selection of rolls and other items on the menu. The udon combos are a good deal considering the amount of food you get. If you order the tempura udon, you get a HUGE plate of tempura plus salad. Overall, I would say Ninja is the better of the two choices for Japanese food in Gilroy. Since moving back to Gilroy a year ago, this has been one of the several places we visit pretty often. Service has definitely gotten better, happier. And they make some great cocktails. Lunch seems to be a slower time for them- so try them for lunch. read more

Best Sushi Restaurant in Gilroy, I've tried them all in Gilroy. My conclusion is if you are like me and authenticity (like Ten Japan) does not matter, but you want the best quality sushi and great service you will like Ninja. If you've been to Ariake Sushi in San Jose off Blossom Hill, it slightly reminds me of this place (except better sushi). I definitely have my favorite servers here, some are better than others (the one with the arm tattoos is the best). However the food quality is always the same high-level. I've never been to the full bar. Looks well run. The only downside is that they open at 3pm, but I guess all good things come to those who wait. I can definitely wait for Ninja Sushi. I really do love this place. Some of their plates are hit or miss for me really. I know some enjoy the rolls here but im not really a fan of theirs. What I am a fan of is their Nigiri. They use large slices of fish atop their rice, I always order a few plates of that and I am happy as a clam. Another reason why I love their resterant is their bar. If you're looking for a place that serves simple sushi and in a timely manner, look elsewhere. Went here for date night because Ten Japan and Pearl Sushi are unfortunately closed on Mondays. I typically only go here as a last resort for my sushi fix. Their menus really are not descriptive enough. It'll tell you about what kind of fish and sauce is on it(and Ninja Sushi LOVES to put sauce on things) And when I'm wanting a simple roll with no surprises, it's a pain to find something here. It's best to really ask them about literally EVERYTHING that is on the roll you're interested in. Which is annoying for both parties involved. So I ordered the Zoom Zoom roll and my boyfriend ordered the beef teriyaki dinner. The Zoom Zoom came out in about 30 minutes, and it was definitely not what I pictured it would be. It was fried, had roe on it, and some kind of sauce IN it even though I had asked for no sauces. None of which had been mentioned on the menu. So I had to go and scrape as much of the roe off of it as I could. The rest of it was alright. I could've done without whatever that sauce was. But all the rice and fried parts overpowered the taste of the fish - the whole reason I came here! The service was sub-par, but I expected this from my last visits where it was pretty much the same situation. They put in the wrong order for my boyfriend, so he waited about 10-15 minutes longer than me to get his food. At least they gave us some free edamame to apologize for it. Though unlike last time, this mistake was from a new employee making a mistake, which I can forgive because she was honest and apologetic about it. Last time was a waitress who barely gave us the time of day. In short, I think next time I'm dying for some sushi and the other places are closed, I'd rather hit up Nob Hill's sushi section than come back again. If simple is your thing, eat somewhere else. I really enjoy Ninja Sushi. They have some pretty creative and delicious rolls. Like others have said, the garlic roll is fantastic. One of my favorites is also the USA roll, which is an odd combination of ingredients (macadamia nuts??) but works beautifully. And the portions are huge, so be prepared. But one of the best features here is that they have a full bar. It is so hard to find a sushi place with a full bar. I always look forward to coming here for a nice dinner of sushi and martinis. THE BEST SUSHI PLACE. Even better than many on the very fine places in San Francisco. Their fish is always fresh, and of the highest quality. I cannot overstate how good the ahi tuna sashimi is; simply the best I've had outside Japan. The staff is very friendly. The sushi chefs are happy to indulge your every idea, and, in turn, will thrill you if you let them indulge themselves. WE LOVE NINJA SUSHI! I came in and admired the cultural, brightly lit, ambiance of decor that lined the interior of the restaurant. As I was handed the creatively designed menu, I was delighted to see a great menu selection with rolls, bento boxes, etc. at really good prices. The sushi rolls were really good, fresh in flavor. The bento boxes with tempura and teriyaki items were very delicious, with portions very full filling. The bar is also a great addition. The bathroom was actually a pleasant surprise, with traditional Japanese washroom design. Ninja Sushi presents a seemingly authentic nature, but also adds it's own creativity to boast. Went on a weekend, which is a Bad idea because the place is so small. It seemed as though they had over booked the night we went. Once seated it took about 20 min before our waitress came over to us because it was so busy. Once we ordered it took about 40 min to an hour to get our stuff and it didn't come all at once. Some people at our table got their food way before the other people did. Sushi rolls took even longer to get to our table so some people were done before some people had started to eat. I get it was a really busy night but maybe this place needs more staff. Good food though. read more

Ninja sushi isn't the best I've had, but definitely ok for Gilroy. Reading a few reviews from other yelpers and I definitely cannot agree that Ninja is better than ones in SF. Why? I've never seen a restaurant ever put sauce on top of Rainbow roll. You want to enjoy the raw fish without anything covering it. This made me feel that their fish may not be as fresh as they should be? What I do enjoy at Ninja's is the prices of their sake/beer. What goes really well with that are those bomb jalepeno poppers! I can never get enough of those. Service is decent but the bartenders are awesome! If you need a place to hangout and not in the mood for bar food, check out Ninjas! We went tonight to have have a family dinner. My daughter can't have shell fish so to be safe, we brought her own food. We don't get out much so we where excited. We where sat, and pulled out her food so she could start eating. I watched 2 different severs walk by and look at our table. My daughter happily sat and ate her food. Then a server came by and said " I know you have a child but we have a strict policy of no out side food." my daughter started crying bc she thought she did something wrong and started to apologize for her food allergies.
