I brought in two bridesmaid dresses as a walk-in to get them hemmed. I was greeted quickly and kindly. She examined my dresses to provide transparency on the costs before I tried on the dresses. And then the turnaround time was quick- much quicker than places I have previously been. When I returned to pick up the dresses, she remembered who I was and knew my dresses without me reminding her. Ninh alterations helped me out with hemming a bridesmaid dress for a wedding that was only 3 weeks out. I needed about 4 inches cut off the bottom but everywhere else fit perfectly. They were able to imitate the type of hem easily, the edges were perfectly straight. It cost $160 to pay in cash, which it would've been more to pay with a card. Brought in a formal dress and men's suit on September 2nd. Both needed alterations. We tried on for them and everything was measured out perfectly and both items were brand new. Day of pickup (16th) I arrive middle of the day. The woman grabs my items and hangs them so I can see.....the first thing that catches my eye is a stain on left breast area. Some weird white/oily blotchy spot. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW DRESS!! It looks like a palm print....perhaps food or an oily lotion was on your hands??? Hundreds of dollars gone and a ruined dress. I'm so happy I found them! I'm 5'2" and need pretty much everything hemmed. A few other alterations places have really screwed up some pants. Ninh Alterations has never messed up anything I've brought in. Also, they're FAST! Other places have taken two weeks to hem 1 pair of pants. With Ninh I pretty much always get them back in a day or two. I think they are a couple dollars more per garment than some other places, but I'll pay it for the quality workmanship, friendly employees, and fast turnaround! I brought in a suit I bought a few years ago. I'd lost weight since then, so I needed it brought it and "modernized". I didn't like the cut of the jacket, arms or pants. Ninh Dam was awesome! He heard what I was after, pinned up the suit while I wore it, and it looked great! He walked me through all the changes that would have to be made, and it was basically like building an entirely new suit. I picked up the suit a few weeks later and tried it on in store. It fit perfectly! The arms, and legs were properly tapered in a more modern style, and the jacket fell in all the right places. I was very pleased. I brought a number if items here for alterations. I paid too much for the suit coat to be let out, and two pairs of pants to be altered. When I went to pick up my tailoring, The brake on the pants was too long, and the waist on the pants had not been tailored properly. If it was not right, and I pointed this out to which the store owner argued with me about. When I tried to pay, I was met with a refusal to take my credit card. The gentleman who appeared to be the store owner argued with me for a few moments, and insisted that I take out my checkbook and write him a check. I told him I would come back when their credit card machine work, but I was going to take my tailoring-because I informed them that I needed it by a specific date. I was informed that they had to send the credit card machine back to the company. After a few moments of confrontation he pretended to call the credit card company. The man went to the back, and his wife took my credit card, pulled the credit card machine from under the desk, and ran it with no problems. She made extra sure to charge a service fee. I wore one of the suit coats for a grand total of three hours before the stitching in the center seam ripped. I brought the coat back to be repaired due to their faulty tailoring. I went to pick the code up on Saturday during they're posted hours, and the store was closed. When I picked it up, I tried it on and inspected the stitching. The stitching looks pour. The coat also no longer fits. There was no offer to make me whole or refund money because of the poor workmanship. I was met with arguments as to why the code would no longer fit. Basically, because they had to repair their own faulty work, they used up the remainder of the fabric inside the coat that would allow them to let it out anymore. I do not recommend this business. They destroyed a very expensive suit. read more

I needed some denim shorts taken in at the waist and they did a fantastic job! Fits like a glove now, and they were great about making sure the pockets didn't get moved too close together when the waist was taken in. I read their reviews and they all raved about how great they were. I needed to get my dressed hemmed and the sides taken in a bit. They had lots of experience and knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, they were WAY more expensive than we thought, especially with minor alterations needed. Although they did a pretty good job with my dress, we couldn't believe how much they over charged us. And they asked us to pay in cash... otherwise, it would be $75 more if we paid any other way. I brought in a tulle bridesmaids skirt completely skeptical of what was to come. Tulle is a hard fabric to alter, and still have it look nice. Nihn spent 20+ minutes completely going around the layers of tulle and fabric making sure all layers would be the same length. He and his wife made the appointment enjoyable with conversation, which always make a great tailor stand out! He has been in business for over 30 years so nihn knows what he is doing for sure. My expectations were far surpassed when I picked up the skirt though! Clean straight cuts and the fabric was even lengths all the way around. Fantastic services and great work!! Took my suit coat in after it got caught under my suitcase wheel and looked like road burn. Picked it up today and can't even see it. Like brand new. I bought my wedding dress and lost thirty pounds. It hung off me, and Mr. Dam took it in over 4 inches. He did amazing work. It was jaw dropping how much it changed the dress. It ended up fitting like a glove (even the thin lace sleeves). The length was perfect, and he was able to maintain the shape of the dress as it had been intended to look, but made it better because it was made for me. HE STAYED AFTER HOURS for two of my three appointments: the first fitting, one follow up fitting to check the length of the dress (after he had taken it in on the shoulders and the bodice), and then for my final try on and pick-up appointment. I work outside of Grand Rapids and he made sure he was available for me based on my schedule. For the third appointment he came in on a SUNDAY for me (we had scheduled it for a Saturday and they needed to close for a family wedding). They did my entire dress in less than a month! He was able to give me a quote for the price at the first appointment. I cannot say enough good things about my experience here. By far the best tailoring/alterations business I have ever dealt with. He took the dress I loved initially and made it better than it was originally, when I thought there was no way it would look nice on me again. These people worked a miracle on my jeans. They were ripped in like five places and after they were done fixing them they looked almost brand new! Even the places where they had to stitch up are extremely aesthetically pleasing and look like they might have intentionally been put there by the designer of the jeans. In other words, they looked better than they did when I bought them. They are my favorite jeans and this was my second time taking them to get tears and rips fixed. The original fix was done in AZ by a different tailor and only lasted a few wears before ripping again. That's why I waited a few months to leave this review. I knew they looked great but would the alterations hold up to heavy wear and tear? Answer: 100% yes!!! After many wears and washes they show no signs of fraying or ripping at all. Lastly, they charged me an incredibly reasonable price. My guess is that they probably spent way more time than would even have paid them minimum wage, on fixing my jeans. I feel bad about that but at least I can leave a good review that hopefully brings them well deserved business! read more

I didn't know if it would be possible but he was confident from the beginning. I think he had to take the whole top apart and put it back together to make it work, and it's perfect. Incredible experience - would highly recommend!! A few months ago I bought two brand new Burton ski jackets from a sample sale at a great price, however, both jackets were a size medium, and I am a size (extra small - small) which meant that I was going to need them graded down one full size range. Luckily, I came upon Ninh alterations! This was my first experience with them and I can honestly say I will look no further for an alteration's expert. Ninh and his wife are highly experienced in garment construction details and textiles, and their business revolves around timeliness and efficiency which is a huge plus! Ninh worked wonders on altering these jackets for me - they still look the exact same as when I purchased them at the sample sale, only a full size smaller. Completely shocked at how perfect both jackets turned out as I knew it was not going to be an easy task! These are fully lined, multi pocketed, multi seam, well-tailored ski jackets. Ninh had to overcome challenges such as zippers set into underarm sleeve seams, tunnel casings, pockets set into side seams, etc, and he completed the alterations with ease and perfection. First off, they were very expensive. Even though, they acted like they were giving us a great deal just because my Asian husband was with me and they were Asians. The owner actually said that. It was an alteration for a nice evening dress of mine and I should have been worth more than a racial discriminatory remark like that. I was going there because I lost a lot of weight and I had a nice dress that I could finally wear only I needed it altered in the breast because I am still big breasted even though I lost like 40 lbs. It came off everywhere but in the chest area. He also made a very rude remark about how I should start walking. This was when my husband and i walked all the time. We had vehicle issues a lot and didn't have use of our vehicle all the time, plus we just like to walk a lot. But, anyway, besides that, I am a customer and really this owner didn't know us like that. I felt it was not very professional of him to say that. Then his wife said she knew how I felt. She was also Asian and an A cup, small B at best. I'm like 38C, got down to a 36C. It's quite a difference. To top it off, the guy did something to the zipper when he altered it. I just feel like I wasted money and time. I since found another Asian Retailer that I actually purchased a very beautiful gown from, called Tami's Bridal & Alterations. I will be giving a review of that place too. They also do hemming. I am going to her soon for some hemming as the dress is a little long for short little me!! I wish I had known about them sooner. She is much more professional and a lot cheaper. The professional part is what is most important to me!! I wish I had known sooner but hey, that's why yelp was created! Save your money, go to Tami's if you need a good place for alteration unless you are into rude customer service and sarcastic remarks! Not my cup of tea. read more

I had Ninh handle the alterations (shortening) of curtain panels I had purchased. The curtains have blackout lining, which made it a more difficult job. They did a wonderful job shortening them AND took the extra step of steaming the panels so they look even better than when I received them! I am very pleased with their great work! read more
