Andrew, the affable proprietor, can usually be found at his desk behind a small counter, often obscured by an array of hanging paraphernalia and a panoply of watches and small repair tools. But those who do visit Nine to Five will meet a remarkable watch smith who is friendly, knowledgeable, and absolutely trustworthy. Andrew has repaired and adjusted my prized European wristwatch (almost worth the price of an Aston Martin) on several occasions, and each time I've been impressed with his service. One of the things I miss most about pre-COVID life is the sense of routine that came with daily life. More importantly, the network of people who were part of that routine; the shopkeepers and service providers who became friends because of proximity and common interests and because we just plain got along. Andrew at Nine Two Five falls neatly into this category. A sole proprietor manning his small shop in the lobby of a government-infested office tower downtown, he sells inexpensive accessories and repairs watches (I'm sure he does other jewelry too, but I've only ever gone in for straps and bracelet fittings and battery changes). I've heard some grouse about him being on his phone. I take this as part of the challenge of being a one man operation. If he's attending to business elsewhere the shop is closed, so I can forgive the occasional wait. He's generally fast and thorough and kind, especially to repeat customers. He's also one of the more affordable watch repair shops I've been to; battery changes or bracelet sizes rarely exceed $10, and often clock in around $5. For that amount, most complaints are disingenuous. Even better, if you're a real.watch nerd Andrew is quick to chat and share his knowledge and opinions. Been to Andrews countless times. He was able to revive a vintage Seiko 6105-8000 with a totally rusted out movement the first time I went, and I've brought a dozen vintage watches in to him since. Have been going back ever since. Good prices on watch servicing and barring any parts that need replacing, quick as well. Great dude and good communication as well. read more

Clever pun, Nine-TWO-Five, clever pun. Pros: convenient location, cheap battery replacement (just $5 after tax!) Cons: the owner. Dude's always on the phone and gets annoyed when I show up for just a simple battery replacement each time, rather than buying some overpriced "jewelry" from his store. He gave me attitude one time for not having cash and paying by debit (yes, crappy of me, but attitude so not necessary). I just suck it up and tolerate his stinky attitude for the 2 minutes it takes him to replace my watch battery, and then book it out of there and get on with my day. What a downer. read more

Not too fond of this place. I believe the price is too high to get your watch battery replaced and my replacements always die after 6 months only! I work in the building and I stopped coming to this place because the owner can be racists at time too. I've told my co workers not to come here any more and advise everyone against it. read more

I went in to get my battery changed since my watch wasn't working. The gentleman was friendly and honest enough to let me know that the battery did not need to be changed since it still had a charge. He cleaned the inside and re-set the watch for me; I offered to pay something for his service and he say "no charge'. I told him I will be back with my other watches that do need the batteries changed. Definitely recommend!! read more

I work across the street from College Park and have been getting my watch batteries replaced here for several years. Very nice owner and promptly changes your battery on the spot. I have also have him replace the battery in my car fob and remove links from my watch band. All services done well. Only reason not 5 stars, is now it is $10.00 for battery replacement, which seems high considering when prior it was only $5.00. read more

No customer service. Got yelled at for wanting to try it out. Said if i try it, i pay for it! Avoid at all cost. Owner was on the phone and yelling at me at the same time. Don't buy anything from this shop. Owner hates customers. Only looking after his money. Avoid at all cost! Obviously, i was polite and courteous, but he has to yell and shout in anger. Owner has a temper issue. Device was 100% ok. I never said anything about testing my device. Owner making stuff up. His battery box was already half open and could easily be taken out. Could have been an expired battery. If battery works, i buy it. If you don't want me to try it, that's fine, but why yell? This owner is not very bright. Lost a sale. I was ready to pay him even without trying it, but he kept yelling at me. Needs to go to customer service class. Got my battery somewhere else where customer service is polite. Avoid! Avoid! You can see from his response, the owner still not owning up to his yelling and temper, and needs to trash a potential customer. His response says a lot about the owner. Avoid at all cost. I ended up at another shop with better service and cheaper cost. Avoid! Avoid this place at all cost! Overpriced and bad service. Owner now using fake review accounts to discredit me. We've used this place twice for watch battery replacement. Unfortunately, the batteries died after a very short period of time. The first watch battery was placed into a Swiss watch - it stopped running after 9 months. The jeweller I took it to after said the battery was bulging outwards and of inferior quality. The second watch battery was placed into a Timex watch - again, it stopped running after less than a year. read more

Avoid it... I wish I would have read the reviews before stopping by to have couple of links removed. Most places don't charge for it, as it take couple of seconds to do it. The guy charged me $7.00CAD for it. Are you kidding me? I normally use the watch service / repair place at The Bay. A lot more reputable business than this little hole in the wall. I will not be going back there and will make sure others avoid it as well if they need their watches serviced. read more

I've had batteries replaced here a few times, and a more extensive repair done to my Swiss watch. I've had a very positive experience - the watch repair had some issues that were entirely outside the control of the owner/operator (water getting in because some apparently pre-existing issues with the watch), and he went out of his way to fix them over several follow-up visits at no additional charge. He has a practical, non-nonsense way of dealing with customers, which may not work for everyone, but I appreciate it. He answered all of my questions and stands by his work. read more

The man who works here (and maybe owns the place ) is so rude. I will never come here again and I discourage everyone from shopping here. 1. When I entered his store he ignored me completely. He was too busy texting on his phone to even acknowledge me when I came to the counter. I had to wait for him to finish whatever he was doing for him to even make eye contact. 2. When he did see me, he exclaimed, 'whoa! You're looking fat!' I'm nearly 8 months pregnant so this hurt my feelings a little. I was completely stunned by the rudeness of his remark. I reprimanded him gently for this statement but I should have been a little more assertive. 3. He then asked the complete stranger who also happened to be in the store at the same time as me if he was the father. It was horribly awkward for both of us... So please, don't go here. I have been to this place twice to have rings sized and both times I have been very impressed. I was quite surprised to see these other reviews on here. More recently, he sized a band ring with a pattern on it and I was concerned that if he sized it up the pattern would be ruined. He cut the ring, sized it up and remade the very fine pattern perfectly. I can't even tell where the ring was cut and sized and more importantly, I can now wear the ring comfortably. The price was also very reasonable. I will definitely be back for future jewellery/ring repairs or sizing. The negative reviews seem to be related to the service but the bottom line is that you are not shopping at Cartier or Tiffany and if you want that level of service (and price) then that is where you should go :) read more
