I've heard of bubble tea before and in honesty tried it from here before but being so excited yet…read moreinexperienced I probably picked a really bizarre combination. Lychee juice with tapioca balls - yay... The lychee juice was really nice but not with the pudding balls. This time around I went for black tea, cold with the tapioca balls (I'd heard those are the best ones) and I was happy with this combo - don't mess with the classics. The staff were friendly, the place clean and the menu extensive. Frozen yoghurt also available which sounds great in the summer. A point to make though is those tapioca balls are really really filling. I felt like I'd eaten a meal after I was done so maybe give them a miss if you've just eaten.

I've collected stamps on their loyalty card and had a free drink already! They have a great range of bubble teas, bubble coffees and the slush ones (which I haven't tried yet) as well as frozen yoghurt etc. Today I bought the Rose bubble coffee and had the tapioca pearls and coffee jelly. You can have drinks cold (with or without ice), warm or even hot. My drink was sweet but nice. You do need a spoon to get the tapioca and jelly out at the end... I think I need to perfect my suck action ha ha You can use your NUS card to get a discount and they do charge a fee if you pay by card.

Where do I begin....should it be with the apple crumble gelato, with actual apple crumble in it? Or…read moreshould it be with the fact on my first visit I got to sample 5 different flavours? There was a lot of excitement locally, awaiting the opening of Moochie B's and they have not dissapointed us. As a big fan of all things sugary, I knew this was somewhere I would have to visit, particularly as it's a 5 minute walk from where I work and the fact the interior is pink! Inside there's a kind of American Diner feel, which I love. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Everyone who knows me knows that customer service is VERY important to me and again I was not dissapointed here. I also love the fact that this is a family run business. I heard on the grapevine that the manager/owner went to Italy to train to make gelato! Talking to him, it's clear he has a passion for it and was happy to discuss how the gelato was made and new flavours he was exploring. I asked about whether he would be doing diary free ice cream and was told that he was experimenting with this, but would also be offering sorbet at some point too. This made me VERY happy. The milkshakes seem particularly popular, but on my most recent visit, I had a fresh made waffle and gelato. Strawberries and cream come as standard, although I did not partake. The gelato was so creamy and full of flavour and the waffle was huge, so I was a very happy person.

My friend tried the savoury chicken crepe which he said was a little tasteless and i would have liked it a little more crisp, there was also a pathetic rotten looking iceberg lettuce on the side which looked rather unpleasant and i didn't eat. But the contents of the crepe was nice. The shop is very very big, maybe even too big. There is a small kids play area which is good to stop small children running around the shop for fun! But it can be full of kids and mums which is annoying if you want some peace and quiet. It was fairly clean, but not to my standard of clean. We were given a knife, fork and spoon held together with damp napkins, which looked cheap and nasty. I had also ordered a beetroot smoothie and was repeatedly asked if i wanted it made with frozen yogurt or soft serve. I wasn't sure what soft serve was so i asked the waiter to explain himself and he just kept saying its soft serve. i had no idea what it was. Then my friend pointed out its like a Mr Whippy van style ice -cream. Why couldn't he just say that? So i chose frozen yogurt. The smoothie was nice but i would prefer to have it with our any frozen yogurt or soft serve. There is a lot of choice with savoury options, a small selection of cakes, lots of different toppings for the pancakes, crepes and waffles. Price wise i think its very expensive. We had 1 Crepe, a small black coffee and smoothie for £14.00. Even for Harborne that is slightly too high, especially when this is aimed more at parents with children. I would return if I got a craving but I wouldn't rush back. Overall what I had was nothing special.

However, I do have a dark secret and that is my ice cream addiction. I can't put a finger on when it started, but just the sight of ice cream makes me turn into a hyper child pulling on my dad's sleeve to persuade him to buy me a Feast or a Mr Whippy. As soon as I saw the first photos of Paradice being added to Yelp, that was it - I HAD to go. A trip to Harborne for work was planned and I knew a trip to the Gelateria had to be a part of the day. After doing some work in Boston Tea Party in the morning, an ice cream was just what the Doctor ordered after my massive lunch as an afternoon pick-me-up. The venue is just up from the Junction and has entrances on both sides (both Vivian and High Street) and is bright, airy and large. One side has a small children's soft play area (to keep the kids busy) and the other has a selection of booths and chairs for visiting groups. After a long look at the selection (which is rather generous to say the least), I opted to go for the (now) legendary "Hello Kitty" mixed with cola millions flavour in a medium tub (£3.40). The gelato is lovely. Light, fluffy and packed full of flavour - it dances on the palate (even when it's long gone). I didn't feel aggrieved at the price for two scoops at all (and if I had, had more of an appetite might have opted for 3). The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in. I was offered tasters of different flavours to try before I chose and you could sense that they love their jobs (which is important, especially in the service industry). I will definitely be back to try more of their selection. I believe their Ferrero Rocher flavour is already calling me...

I wrote a comment on twist cafe's page asking if they had loyalty cards, and they replied yes! There was only one member of staff in there and I didn't see anything I could buy for lunch so I went for a fruity bubble tea. I chose pineapple then asked if he could make a layered drink, which he said he could mix more flavours in but they wouldn't be layered in colours like my wish of a rainbow! Ha ha so I said it was fine, just do what you can. He also said I could choose up to three different bubbles or jelly so I chose three! You can get 10% off with a student card and as I said they have a loyalty card. The drink was nice, refreshing and the bubbles and jelly were nice as I don't normally like popping bubbles but these were good. I prefer the chewy tapioca balls but they can be filling so this way it wasn't so bad! I usually buy bubble tea from meecha in the bull ring but I will buy from twist cafe again if I'm this side of town! I must try the frozen yoghurts next time!!

First of all, I can't stress enough how stuffy and humid the shop is. I just don't understand how so much heat is generated once you walk into the shop. I really do think it gives an uncomfortable vibe. So I ordered a pineapple fruity bubble tea, which was recommended by the staff there. I must admit it was a good recommendation but it just wasn't enough to impress me considering I'm using places such as Meecha, Cha Time, Cafe Chino and Happy Lemon to benchmark. The takoyaki just wasn't worth the time, despite the nice presentation. It was like something you bought at a supermarket and heated up in the microwave (very lacklustre) Overall, I think there needs to be improvements as it wouldn't fit into my top 3 bubble tea shops. Good but there's better options.
