Twist

After hearing the Rave reviews from the Yelp Birmingham Elite squad about this place, I just knew I had to give it a go. Being a bit of a newcomer to this Bubble tea malarky, I am always keen to try all sorts of new flavour combos and see which ones work for me. I am pleased to say that Twist lived up to all expectations! Located on Ethel Street (just off New Street), it's easy to get to and is a great place to go to grab something on the run. The colorful signage and smart design are easy to spot and radiate "fun" and "Happy" vibes. The venue has a little area for outdoor seating (perfect for summer days) and some tables and chairs inside too (if the weather isn't so great). This shop sells bubble tea, milk tea, a range of hot drinks and frozen yoghurt. It also sells sushi platters and a small range of food to "grab and go" if you're in a rush. The prices are about average for what you would pay for bubble tea. A large cup with 3 toppings set me back £3.50 - but the prices range on the other products (the sushi is extremely reasonable at £3.50 for the platter). I literally popped into grab a drink on the go, but ended up having a chat with the enthusiastic and passionate staff. After I had finished my drink I was practically forced (forced I tell you!) to try their frozen yoghurt. I can confirm that it's as creamy as ice cream and just as delicious. During the summer, I can see this being a regular spot for me. Cool design? Check! Great selection? Check! Decent prices and friendly staff? Check and Check. I recommend you try this hidden gem before everyone else does!

So I'd seen the brightly coloured fliers and boards outside here the day before giving it a whirl but was in a bit of a rush, gladly I decided to make the trip back! I'd never tried bubble tea before so wasn't really sure what to expect, a free sample of lychee tea with strawberry bubbles soon gave a very good idea of what to expect (sweet fruit based tea of one flavour with edible bubbles of another flavour of tea added to the mix). So I dove in and as from the photos provided went for a green apple tea with cherry bubbles, wow, vibrant, fruity and oh so refreshing! The drink wasn't overly sweet or artificial bit just had a nice sweetness to it - and with a nice helping of ice I can imagine this one becoming more popular with myself in the summer, they also offer coffees and frozen dairy deserts which could be a nice draw to head back. The service was provided with a constant smile, was quick and both of the staff behind the till / on drinks duty were very polite. A solid customer experience and one I will be returning to!

Can you believe this was my first bubble tea experience ?! Its been one of those things I have been wanting to try for ages but I always get tempted by a smoothie or chocolate based drink......a couple of days ago I took the plunge......I think I would do it again too. Bubble tea for anyone that has not tried it is a tea based drink, served hot or cold, with various fruit flavourings you can pick for the drink itself..... but you are also invited to pick up to three flavours for the balls in your drink....the balls are small fruit puree pearls that burst in your mouth when you suck them up the straw. I went for the coconut tea in a large.....its more filling than you think so bare that in mind when you are offered the medium. If you havent had one of these drinks before why not give twist a visit and give it a go!

They mostly do drinks, but also do small takeaway lunches and snacks. This was the first time that I had tried bubble tea and it made a nice, refreshing change to the coffee I would normally drink when I'm out! The décor of the café is very clean and white, but the style fo the furniture is funky, modern and welcoming. They have outdoor seating and are conveniently located just off New Street and close to the station so easy to find and pop into-hopefully they will attract a lot of custom. Nice friendly and helpful staff.

Located on Ethel Street, around the corner from the entrance to New Street Station. Twist is a vibrant and friendly independent café, relaxing atmosphere. Twist also offers a number of food and beverage alternatives to suit all including bubble tea, frozen yoghurt, fruit smoothies, coffee, bagels and wraps.

Being from Canada, Bubble Tea is very popular and something we drink on the regular. I'll start with the location, it is in a great place just off to the aide of New St. Very vibrant sign that will get the attention of people passing by. Unfortunately not many people seem to know what bubble tea is so they're a little intimidated about coming in it seems. They have a pretty decent selection of flavours and even offer fruit poppers which are normally only served with frozen yogurt. Only a few things put me off, first is that they use powder rather than syrup so it doesn't taste as good and quality isn't the best. As well the time it took for them to make it was a little longer than I'm used to, I'll give it to them that they don't have much equipment but for one drink you shouldn't have to wait almost 5 minutes. Probably wouldn't come back, only plus other than drinks is that they offer free WiFi. Would probably visit bubble tea kiosk across from lower level of Selfridge's.

This is the new drink they have, pretty cool especially the plant one I tried today!

Absolutely delicious drinks! I came here twice while I was a tourist in Coventry! For my first…read moredrink I tried a tropical fruit tea with cherry bubble balls. It was so sweet and tasty that I had to force myself not to guzzle it down, and drink it slowly. I had to revisit the tea shop for another drink, because in my hometown we don't have any bubble tea shops like this one! On my second visit I had a bubble gum milkshake with blueberry bubble balls. This was my favorite drink. If I had more time in Coventry I would have returned again and again! I love the fun atmosphere of the shop with the bright colors! The staff was very friendly and helpful in recommending which bubbles go best with each drink.

Bubble Boba is THE most amazing bubble tea shop in the world!…read more I don't say that biasedly because I'm in there almost every day and have tried all of the drinks on the menu... But because it's The Truth! They use the best ingredients, straight from manufacturers in Taiwan, which is where bubble tea originated from; everything certified by the EU and UK laws. Both Bubble Boba shops (Coventry & Cardiff) are an experience within themselves! From the really cool and fun decor, to the knowledgeable and friendly staff... I've never had a bad experience! Except maybe from the UK weather! The drink flavours are fun and unique, and many say taste "Just Like Home"! I've only been able to find Hokkaido Milk Tea in California, but Bubble Boba has it, along with Classic, Taro and other traditional flavours. They even have their own range of Cheesecake Drinks which are out of this world! Who would have thought to drink a cheesecake for dessert!? Hands down, Bubble Boba is the best. But don't take my word for it... check out their 99.9% of 5-star reviews across all platforms. :) People drive for hours to get their hands around those sealed cups to pop a giant straw through it to obtain pure happiness! There's something really drawing about the whole place, I mean there's neon lemon signs for goodness sake. I'd been to other bubble tea places before, and I think the Happy Lemon focuses less on bubble tea flavours and varieties and more on differed oddities all together. You also have more customisation here than ever, what kind of sweetness you have have your drink (30%,50%,100% etc.) our server even made suggestions and recommendations on what we ordered. She was also really patient whilst we tried out the different 'cheese foams'. This place is perfect if you want a drink but are bored of coffee and don't fancy alcohol. I'll be honest I was really sceptical of Dan's 'Green Tea with Rock salted cheese' but it works! Think caramel salted latte, but if anything way more refreshing.

The Birmingham Happy Lemon is a fairly new bubble tea and specialty drink store with inspired…read moreflavours that you'd find on the streets of Taipei. The chain is barely a decade old and already has amassed 500+ stores across the world. While the name suggests an abundance of lemons, you'll find that and more with a plethora of very interesting boba combinations. Some of the menu items are milk based while others are simply a refreshing tea. In total, you have drinks divided into the following categories: milk tea, rock salted cheese, lemon smoothies, milk tea smoothies, fresh lemon tea, fruit matcha latte, and a variety of specialty drinks. This is the first boba bar I've seen with rock salted cheese as a flavour, and it's apparently one of their more well-known drinks. Happy Lemon is well sited between New Street Station and the Chinese Quarter. I've found that it's the perfect after dinner treat on the way home or a good way to jump-start a night out. The drinks come in a medium or large size, and the price can vary widely depending on what ingredients you request. There is also an additional surcharge to make some of the drinks hot. I've tried a couple of the drinks so far, and I feel that their fresh teas are a real strength of the brand. They are seriously refreshing, with most balancing between sweet and sour on the flavour profile. I can see myself drinking them a lot more this summer when it's warm out. I've also tried their more experimental flavours, such as the red bean & pudding matcha latte made hot. It's basically caramel (or mango) pudding mixed with milk and red beans. As a hot drink, it's great on cold nights. The drink may sound unconventional for some people, but it's worth trying at least once. If you like Happy Lemon's drinks and plan on visiting here often, I suggest signing up for their 'LoyalTea' loyalty card. It costs £5 up front, but you get a free drink of your choice. Each drink purchased gives you 1 point, which can either be redeemed for Happy Lemon branded merchandise (Happy Lemon iPhone case here I come) or at 10 points, a free drink. Overall, Happy Lemon does a great job focusing on one product that it does really well.

I've heard of bubble tea before and in honesty tried it from here before but being so excited yet…read moreinexperienced I probably picked a really bizarre combination. Lychee juice with tapioca balls - yay... The lychee juice was really nice but not with the pudding balls. This time around I went for black tea, cold with the tapioca balls (I'd heard those are the best ones) and I was happy with this combo - don't mess with the classics. The staff were friendly, the place clean and the menu extensive. Frozen yoghurt also available which sounds great in the summer. A point to make though is those tapioca balls are really really filling. I felt like I'd eaten a meal after I was done so maybe give them a miss if you've just eaten.

I've had a…read morebit of a week of new discoveries this week, so when I was invited to a late meeting at Millenium Point (with this coffee shop being situated just around the corner), I was presented with the perfect opportunity to go and give it a go for myself. It's got a cute looking exterior, with a modern feel in steely grey and bright pink. With their location, I would think they would mainly attract a student crowd, but it wasn't busy on my visit (between 4:30 - 5:45pm). Inside the venue is clean, modern and there is plenty of seating to be had. On the right hand side of the shop is a widescreen TV and area with comfy high backed seats and on the left is a selection of low and high tables to sit at. The counter shows off a number of tasty treats for purchase. I knew that I was having a cake before I got in (I even knew I wanted a bubblegum cake after hearing Dave talk about it), but the other pastry and cakey treats did provide a tough choice of when I got up to order. As well as sweets, they also do sandwiches and some savory dishes (so it could be a good spot to pop in for lunch). I took advantage of their "any cake and hot drink for £3.45" offer, but there was also an offer for beers after 6pm, concrete cake and a couple of other bargains to be had (depending on what you wanted and the time of day it was). To go with my rainbow cake treat, I opted for a vanilla latte. Once I had placed my order, I was told to take a seat and it would be bought over for me. This shop does have free wifi (under the code of a BT Hub), you just need to ask the staff for the code. This is invaluable in this part of the city; as signal isn't great for me around Eastside. My drink and cake were bought to me within a couple of minutes of placing the order. The cake was just as good as it looked! Light, fluffy and sugary; it was devoured within a couple of minutes. The coffee was pretty good, not as strong as I would have liked, but very nice regardless. I was having such a nice time working away that I later ordered a watermelon bubble tea. This was also excellent (and great value at £2.50). If you are ever around the Jennens Road side of the city and hankering for a cake or a coffee - I would 100% recommend CoffeeKup.
