It's not all boots and cowboy hats (although there is definitely plenty of that!) And as an added bonus you get to feel like you've just been welcomed to Sunday supper with the Nigro family. My only complaint is that they're not located closer to me! But it's worth the drive, for sure. I just can't do justice to how wonderful and helpful everyone was, and how many times they thanked us for visiting and supporting their establishment. I stopped in to get some tips for a *new* pair of boots I bought elsewhere. They offered to install the tips for me and that's where it went downhill. The old man kept insisting my boots are "old"... they've barely been worn. After awhile, they told me my boots were ready. I could see before I even picked them up that one tip was VERY lopsided. I mentioned that they were uneven and the old man once again blamed my boots. He let me know he cut himself installing tips on my boots, and I shouldn't expect much else. Had I known he would do such a hack job installing some boot tips, I would have just put them on myself. They're still wonky, but I didn't want to inconvenience the old man any further. Tl;dr, buy the hardware and do it yourself. Even though they offer to do it for you, it will ruin their day, they will do an awful job, and they will be sure to make you feel like a monster for it. read more

This place is so jam packed with merchandise and people that it's well worth your visit! Clothing, jeans, boots, jewelry and odds and ends galore! Okay, so that being said, here's the story... We were in the area for a ball tourney and had about 1 1/2 hours to kill in between games. Our choices were (1) a going-out-of-business sale at Office Depot (save your time and skip this altogether), (2) looking at pleather footwear at Payless shoes (thanks, no thanks), (3) roaming the aisles of a nearby Walgreens (and purchasing unnecessary bags of Halloween candy), or (4) checking out Nigro's. Since I'd driven by numerous times without a stop in, the latter won my time. And later...my money... The rundown... Upon entering the door, you will be immediately greeted. And I'm not talking about some weak and feeble "hi, welcome to Nigro's" brush off. You will get a hearty hello as if you've been there 100 other times before. Warning! Warning! This good feeling will immediately put you further in the mood to spend cash. And even if this was a stop off spot to kill some time in between ball games...you WILL spend some cash. And speaking of spending cash (or check or charge), the prices are pretty reasonable with sales going on for certain things all the time. Bonus! Being the proud Texas girl I am, I naturally prefer to support Cavenders, but I am baffled at the generic and fake aura of the Kansas City store. That being said, my husband and I decided to try Nigro's and we were so impressed with their customer service, their men and women's selections, and their sales. I got the pictured jeans for $20 and this adorable top for $10! It was priced on sale for $20 but the woman said "if you want it, I'll give it to you for $10". I am so thrilled about this store. I wasn't sure I'd ever have a reason to go to shop at Nigro's but when my brother came into town & decided he wanted to go see the Professional Bull Riders Rodeo I suddenly did. He wanted a cowboy hat to go to this cowboy event & I knew Nigro's was the place to go. My brother, who has not owned a pair of jeans for 10+ years (fancy pants) got himself some Levi's & Wranglers + a stunning Stetson hat that they helped him fit to perfection. His pal also found a perfect cowboy hat too. They will steam it at the counter upon request if you want a little dip in the lid or anything about the shape of hat tweaked. Since I was joining them at the rodeo also I picked up a western shirt. There was a large variety to select from and I found one w/ modern design & some flare that fit my style Nigros has lots of boots, hat, jeans, belts, buckles like you would expect but also some trendy clothing for women, jewelry, great leather care items for your shoes & boots. Honest prices & good sales on many items. What struck me most about shopping at Nigro's was the superb service we received. From every single employee. They listened to our needs, offered a variety of items, were experts on design/quality/fit, were attentive but not overly & everyone was down right truly charming - not in a fake way to make sales. This place doesn't look that big from the outside but it is packed to the rafters inside with hats, boots, jeans, clothes and and and. I got there late in the day looking for a nice pair of knock-around boots. They carry numerous brands such as Ariat, Justin, Roper, and more. The woman that helped me was very helpful and patient with my numerous questions. She didn't bat an eye and you could tell that she had first hand knowledge & experience with everything she said. I ended up getting a pair of boots and a shirt - good stuff. I wish I had gotten there earlier. I would have loved to explore all the goodies there. Seeing as how I've been getting hooked on the show Justified, I wanted to get myself a cowboy hat. My friend took me here and not only did I get a hat, I got myself a western shirt. Why? I'm not exactly sure..but who cares? I'm on vacation. They have a huge selection of cowboy gear including hats, boots, shirts, jackets, gloves, and buckles. The gear they sell looks pretty sturdy...especially the work coats. The staff here is ridiculously friendly. When I walked in, they made me feel like I was an old family friend or something of that nature (which is notable because I haven't seen all that many Asian people in Kansas City). They also encouraged asking questions about what they had in stock. I definitely will be back if I need any other cowboy gear. I was on the hunt for a new sparkly purse and Nigro's is in my 'hood. Although their selection of purses was slim, they did have a nice selection of jewelry, jeans, shoes, boots, and accessories for both cowboy and non-cowboy clientele. I found the lay out somewhat scattered and cluttered. There is not a whole lot of room to move around in there especially on a busy Saturday afternoon. The staff are always eager to help and very personable. This is definitely a hidden gem in Shawnee that you should check out. read more

I visited Nigro's Wester Wear for the first time this afternoon. My girlfriend and I were running errands, and she recommended your boots, which, as promised, looked really awesome. Unfortunately, I didn't make a purchase today, entirely due to the level of treatment we experienced from one of your employees. I do want to specify, this was only one employee. Upon entering the Shawnee Mission location, we were promptly greeted by several employees who welcomed us and offered to show us around. We walked maybe a yard further and encountered a barked greeting from a woman, medium length brown hair and glasses, average height and build. It's difficult to describe the level of aggression in her voice, mostly because I am not used to being treated so poorly by someone I'm trying to give my money to. She asked what we were looking for, "are you looking for LADIES boots? The LADIES boots are over there." (The implication being that she could tell we were both women?) I told her several times that we were just looking around, thank you, but she never left our side, hands on her hips, staring holes into the two of us. (As an interracial lesbian couple, we attract our fair share of curious looks here in the Midwest, but thankfully, most Midwesterners also remember their manners and treat us as humans.) Her relentless, aggressive attitude towards us was so distasteful we left almost immediately. Here's why this should be a problem for you, too. The LGBT community is now widely recognized as an increasingly influential economic demographic. We have children later in life, and generally more disposable income. If you make enough members of this community feel this way, you're missing out on a huge amount of potential revenue. As a member of this community, I experienced this level of service at your respected local business. Maybe you could reexamine your customer service standards and hiring practices as a result of this. I certainly hope this is not consistent with the way you want to run your business as a whole. I was in KC for business and was looking at western wear stores online, in hopes of finding my son a new pair of boots. I found a pair on the website, called the store..they didn't carry the boot I found in the size I needed, but I was told they could order it and ship it to me at no charge...the price of the boot was much lower than stores where I live. Before heading home, I decided to stop by the store...wow! These folks are amazing! I ordered the boots, and bought a pair of jeans for my son as well, $10 cheaper than back home. David ordered the boots, called me when they came in...just like he said he would. While we were finanlizing the boot purchase, I asked if he could send another pair of jeans as well...he gave me a discounted price on the jeans, free shipping and I'll have both by Monday. George and Katie go out of their way to accommodate, and though they don't have wall to wall boot selection, George will make sure he gets it in for you in no time at all. Aggressive sales associates will follow you around incessantly. They can often be rude or judgmental as well. I've spent hundreds of dollars at this location but never felt comfortable and no longer shop at Nigro's for this reason. I was visiting from Colorado and was admiring my sisters clothes. Much to my surprise, we went to Nirgro's. She is not a cowgirl and neither am I. I found the most unique, fun and fashionable style of clothes at this store. It was like shopping at an upscale boutique with beyond reasonable pricing! Styles were limited so what you wear will be unique. I am so excited...also found the greatest the cowboy boots at pricing that can't be beat. Customer Service was fantastic. Since I had taken so long to make up my mind, I only had a few days before the party I wanted to wear them too. Nigro's went above & beyond to get the boots shipped out in time & even called me back with the tracking info. I was visiting relatives in Shawnee and mentioned I was looking for some new cowboy boots. They don't wear boots, but they had heard of Nigro's and took me to check it out. The store is packed from one end to the other with all manner of western wear - jeans, tops, belts, jewelry, and boots. I didn't look at anything other than boots. They had a decent selection with some beautiful and unique styles. They were having a sale and the prices were quite reasonable. They were friendly and helpful. I didn't have room in my bags for the boots and was hesitant about buying them, but Nigro's ships (for a reasonable charge), so no worries there. I bought a beautiful pair of boots for a reasonable price from friendly people at a local, family owned business. What's not to love? read more

Don't waste your time going to Nigro's! I wouldn't have given them any stars, but that was not an option. I want to say up front that I am not one of those people that can never be satisfied and in fact, I have been doing my part to help this economy by doing retail therapy every chance I get; I have never had this bad of an experience in any story and created this account on Yelp just to write this review! Even though I received a very friendly greeting from the oldest generation of the Nigro family when I walked in the door, I was instantly handed off to a surely, unhelpful little girl (she acted like a spoiled teenager) that I can only assume is the granddaughter of the owners; there is absolutely no way that she would still be working there if she was not part of the family. I asked to try on a couple of boots for myself and a few for my husband also and she looked at us like I had 3 heads! How dare I ask to try on boots! Once she finally brought the boots out, she just set them down and walked off to talk to another employee and look at cell phone pictures. Since there was nowhere for either of us to sit and try the boots on, we were just left trying to hop on one foot around the store while we tried to gets boots on and off. After spending 45 minutes trying to get her help to try on an additional pair of boots, we were finally helped by another young man who was very nice, but it was simply too little too late. Their selection of boots was very limited compared to the western stores I am used to going to in Oklahoma and even their sale prices were just mediocre. I would not go back to this store if they paid me to shop there and would rather drive all the way back to Oklahoma when I need a new pair of boots in the future. I have lived here for many years and had heard how wonderful this store was, so I am very disappointed that they did not live up to their hype! read more
