"Old" boots
Mallory G.

I stopped in to get some tips for a *new* pair of boots I bought elsewhere. They offered to install the tips for me and that's where it went downhill. The old man kept insisting my boots are "old"... they've barely been worn. After awhile, they told me my boots were ready. I could see before I even picked them up that one tip was VERY lopsided. I mentioned that they were uneven and the old man once again blamed my boots. He let me know he cut himself installing tips on my boots, and I shouldn't expect much else. Had I known he would do such a hack job installing some boot tips, I would have just put them on myself. They're still wonky, but I didn't want to inconvenience the old man any further. Tl;dr, buy the hardware and do it yourself. Even though they offer to do it for you, it will ruin their day, they will do an awful job, and they will be sure to make you feel like a monster for it.

This place is so jam packed with merchandise and people that it's well worth your visit! Clothing, jeans, boots, jewelry and odds and ends galore! Okay, so that being said, here's the story... We were in the area for a ball tourney and had about 1 1/2 hours to kill in between games. Our choices were (1) a going-out-of-business sale at Office Depot (save your time and skip this altogether), (2) looking at pleather footwear at Payless shoes (thanks, no thanks), (3) roaming the aisles of a nearby Walgreens (and purchasing unnecessary bags of Halloween candy), or (4) checking out Nigro's. Since I'd driven by numerous times without a stop in, the latter won my time. And later...my money... The rundown... Upon entering the door, you will be immediately greeted. And I'm not talking about some weak and feeble "hi, welcome to Nigro's" brush off. You will get a hearty hello as if you've been there 100 other times before. Warning! Warning! This good feeling will immediately put you further in the mood to spend cash. And even if this was a stop off spot to kill some time in between ball games...you WILL spend some cash. And speaking of spending cash (or check or charge), the prices are pretty reasonable with sales going on for certain things all the time. Bonus! The owners are there and are incredibly fun and personable. I enjoy the Nigro Brothers Auctioneer services and now I love this store!

Only place in town to carry my son's size. 27x36, always has several options to choose from. Good quality, lasts a long time.

Wow, this place brings me back! I remember coming here twice a year growing up for summer and…read moreschool tennis shoes, just thinking EVERYONE gets ugly shoes right? Oh the naivety of childhood...of course, who could blame my mother? Being a mom of 4 kids, she's seen a lot of money wasted on shoes outgrown and outworn. I went in here for nostalgia's sake, I seriously haven't stepped foot in a Famous Footwear since 1992. And it was exactly the same as I remember. Row upon row of ugly brand name sneakers, slip on's and sandals, moderately priced and shiny new. It even had that same smell (dirty carpet and leather)! I really wasn't looking to buy, so I didn't look to hard to see what they were selling. But noticed all of the necessary shoe accessories--like socks, leather protector, shoe laces, and shoe horns. I will be a mom soon, and will probably be buying cheap-o shoes (and cheap-o a lot of things) for my kid before they realize how their style is being sacrificed. So this place will be on my list

No BOGO sale??? There is ALWAYS BOGO sales!…read more I wanted a new pair of sandals. Generally they have a decent selection of sandals, but this years selection is just awful. There was only a couple of options that I liked and I wasn't paying $90 for the stereotypical Birkenstocks. Overall FF has a decent selection of shoes. Many varieties of tennis shoes, a bunch of canvas shoes (where did the Rocket Dogs go???) More women's shoes than men's or children's shoes. Prices range from cheap to overpriced. It just really depends on what you want whether they are cheap or expensive.

Never again. Terrible & disgusting. Forget the purse I went to look for…read more I felt as if I needed to update my tetanus shot once I left the store. Clothing, shoes & inventory was everywhere. Complete disarray. Not only that, it didn't appear the store had been cleaned since I had been in it that last time I was there, several years ago. In a couple of places things had been spilled and left to dry. There were bottles of lotion, that were half empty, left to become sticky on the shelves. A torn welcome mat, still full price on an end cap. Open merchandise on the floor, left to be stepped on by customers. Shoes missing their mates. When I walked back toward the children/baby section I could hear employees arguing and yelling on the other side of the partition. Burlington used to be a great place to shop, when it was just a "coat factory." Now it's just a nasty thrift store with new merchandise. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Anytime & anywhere I can receive savings is a huge Blessing for me. I stop in at just about all of them in the city (& even out of town), however I prefer the Shawnee Mission Pkwy location the best. The manager & staff are pleasant & helpful which means a lot to me. I appreciate people showing up for work & just being there to assist customers. Kudos to all of them. You ARE making a difference!

Do not forget to have the pizza and fudge at the cafe after a long stroll at the store. Also on the second floor they have beautiful taxidermy animals areas which is a fantastic site. It's totally one part corporate, crisp, functional retail goods store, and another part taxidermy animals, rides, fudge, and hunting & fishing gear like you'd find at Bass Pro. We took our kids here on a winter break, gray day and it was a lot of fun. First off, there's a mini aquarium when you walk in -- it's nothing to write home about, but it gets the kids attention and they realize right away this is a fun store. From there, you can't miss the gigantic ferris wheel in the middle of the store. Gonna be real, it's fun and worth the wait but also a bit nerve wracking. Something is just odd about quietly swaying at the top of a department store quietly for such a long time. My daughter was like, "Dad, I'm scared to look down!" and all I could think was, "so am I, kid, so am I." We both agreed it's pretty fun once it gets going. There's also a little bowling area where you get five frames for a buck, and ditto to a little arcade game area as well. There's toy stores, outdoor goods, quality brands of clothes and outfitting, and really a nice answer to online shopping. In fact, it feels like malls used to feel in the 90's but a modern spin on everything. We did eat here but I'd say skip it. I didn't find anything I wanted and when I went to finish off my kids chicken tenders I was super underwhelmed and ended up pitching them. I will say at this time they carry Sylas & Maddy's ice cream (best IC in the city IMO) so that was a nice surprise treat. What more could you want if out shopping with the kids?! It's a great spot to kill a quiet afternoon.
