New experience at DSW where all clearance shoes are same % off based sale, and on the end caps Accessories clearance, it was very cluttered too. They've now moved across the street, but I don't know why- looks the same! Huuuuuuge selection of boots and sneakers. Last time I was in I found some Vionic slippers, which I was super thrilled about. This time- I saw only 1 pair of Vionic shoes and no slippers at all. I would have asked for help but none of the staff had greeted me or said hello while they were walking around stocking, etc. so I felt unwelcome and awkward asking them. This location moved right across the street into a smaller location, which is very unfortunate! I have been a long time customer and purchased all my shoes at the location that just closed down. So I went to this new location and it was almost impossible to find a parking space because it is now in the shopping center that houses Ulta and Ross Dress for Less and other stores. I had to park all the way down at Ross and walk to the new location. It is much smaller and the aisles are cramped and the selection seems to be way less. It was a huge disappointment and I will most likely be finding a different DSW to shop at. I was also disappointed to see that their clearance appears to be a different pricing scale than before. In the past, they would have colored stickers and a little chart above the shoes that would tell what the percentage off was based on the color. Now there are no charts even though the shoes have the various colors and now there's just a sign that says 30% off the sticker price. So that is a disappointment because in the past, some clearance shoes would be anywhere from 30 to 80% off. It also seems to be there was less workers because the small line to the cashier was busy and I used to see more workers on the floor, putting shoes away, and I only saw one. read more

They refused to own up to their mistake marking a price incorrectly on a pair of shoes. The manager here tried to lie their way out of letting me pay the marked price. It's not my fault you marked it wrong and then had an employee put the shoe on display in the space where it apparently should not have been? (Yeah, makes sense to me too). Several people who stood in line before me also walked out without shoes due to their poor management of the store. I know everyone is short employees, but that's not a reason to be mean to your customers. Especially when I wasn't being mean about it. I went and read a few more Google reviews that state this recent manager has been difficult with several people. I hope she soon figures out she's not cut out for retail. read more

After reading such a great review by Samantha, I decided it was time to check out the DSW. I'm no Carrie Bradshaw, but I was interested in what they had to offer for guys and somehow was roped into helping a certain girl make a shoe purchase. I'm not complaining. Often, I probably have the misconception, as do most, that places like Designer Shoe Warehouse could never compete with the offerings of a major higher-end retailer. My lips are now stapled shut. The DSW hits it out of the park. Well, more so for the ladies. I did see a few things I'd slip my toesies into, but overall the men's section just wasn't as glorious. Nor I guess should it be. Fact is, you girls will find almost every line Macy's carries (if you're a Macy's fan) and there were even a smattering of Coach boxes in the mix. Michael Kors? Shut up. Yeah, I found some killer MK wedges that I pointed out and had my friend try on. She passed on them. Aww well. You want brands right? Bandolino, Nine West, Steve Madden, Nina, Liz Claiborne, Rocketdog, Guess, Anne Klein, Kenneth Cole, etc. Guys, we'll have to settle for mostly your basic black lace-ups, loafers, and tennis shoes. They did have a pretty good selection though. I once checked out Dillards over in Oak Park and right now can't find anyone to come close to their offerings. Yeah, I said Dillards. Anyway, some of my favorites included loafers by Ashton Grey and a Rockport Toloni boot. Here's where this place rocks. The racks. Clearance racks that will make you ladies drunk off shoes. Guys we're reduced to a small section so pay no attention to what I just said. Lauryn was a great help at checkout as was the associate who graciously gave us a bag for the three boxes we were carrying around. I like this whole idea of autonomy that DSW gives you. I liked the spaciousness of the store and it was easy to browse. It's a shame they don't carry my shoe size, but they do have other things I like, so I'll be back. Why do I torture myself with department store shoe salespeople? In the time it takes the guy at Macy's or Dillard's to check on three shoes and retrieve one, I can be down an entire aisle at Designer Shoe Warehouse and already tried on as many shoes as I'll find all night the mall. Even commissioned salespeople don't help you try shoes on anymore. And the Macy's salesman couldn't stop for 60 seconds to ponder whether there was anything close to the shoe that was long gone in my size. So why should I pay extra for his assistance? Maybe the rest of the world has experienced the DSW wonder. But judging by the number of women I saw torturing themselves at Dillard's, someone need to get the word out that there's a place with a great selection, reasonable prices, and no cumbersome middle-person to interfere with your shoe shopping experience. Although I've known about DSW for many years, this is the first year I've actually shopped there. I'd have to say that location is what swayed me, as I just recently moved near a DSW, so the opportunity was there! I should preface the rest of the review with this: I'm a total cheapskate. Since I don't often wear clothes or shoes for very long (I love to shop, so I'm often giving away things to make room for the new!), I don't like to spend a lot of money on these items. Target is where I usually shop for clothes and shoes, so you can guess where my price point is. What I love about DSW is their expansive clearance section! I have big feet for a girl (size 10, gasp!), so it's not often that I find a lot of sale shoes in my size. But, at DSW, there are TONS of sale/clearance shoes - even for us bigfeet. One thing to note - not everything that is on clearance will be in the clearance section. As it turns out, they only put stuff on those clearance racks when there are not many sizes left. So if a certain style that should be on clearance has a lot of sizes left, they may leave them on display in their normal location. They mark these clearly with Percent-Off signage, but you have to browse the normal rows to find them. Their best asset is their HUGE selection. The whole "warehouse" thing in their name is pretty accurate. I honestly don't think I've seen everything they offer, but I've gotten enough good stuff to be satisfied. I've also taken my mom and dad there, and they've each found a pair of shoes or boots that they liked enough to buy (even at retail! Who are these people?!). Be sure to sign up for their rewards membership. It's NOT a credit card, and all you have to give them is your mailing address and phone number (they don't call you, it's just their way of tracking your account). You get points for every dollar you spend, and when you reach a certain threshold, you get a rewards certificate in the mail, which is basically a coupon for your next purchase. I recently received a $10 certificate, so I was able to get a pair of flats - on clearance for $28 - for only $18 plus tax. They also have a decent return policy, so if you buy something on a whim and later decide that it's not just right, you can easily get your money back. P.S. I am not a shoe fanatic by any means. I only really recently come to love one name brand shoe (sketchers). Even then, it's really only for sneakers, no laces. Otherwise, I will get what will fit my 10 wide feet comfortably with a cheap price. Yes, I own $5 to free shoes. I said CHEAP! However, back to finding my sneakers. Which I will spend a few dollars more for, (but nothing over $60), because I stand in them 13+ hrs a day. I've found that 10w is not a popular shoe to be made but is a popular shoe to be bought. Then my other dilemma of dis-liking laces. I admit my 1st and 2nd choices were not DSW. Even though I've tended to my find my choice here. Mainly this is because of distance. When they were in the Great Mall, they were my 1st choice. I finally made my way over here once again. As both my pinky toes were waving white flags out the side of my torn shoes. They're selections is always huge. Even the clearance. And clean. They were reorganize the shoes and I was told sorry for the mess. Mess? What mess? Even when they are messy, they're not messy! They had no lace sketchers but not 10w. They even called the Metcalf store for me. (I think this now the fault of sketchers). I did end up getting a pair with laces and even a clearance non-sketchers sneaker for back up. Two pairs with tax for under $100. Oh snap! Works for me. read more

I love the selection - I can find many pairs of shoes I want to try on/buy without fail. Selection's never been a problem here - it's a warehouse! But I do seem to always get that stomach-plunging feeling when I find that the one shoe I love and HAVE to buy (you know what I'm talking about) costs $100 when you were praying for half of that. Maybe I have the wrong idea about the place - because all women, all over Kansas City have different definitions of what expensive means when it comes to shoes, BUT - coming from New York, where you can get a good pair off your corner street merchant for $20, I was just expecting a little less for the goods. Also - anything with the word "warehouse" in it and I'm made to believe the price tags will show much less than department store prices - am I crazy here. I could go to Nordstrom and pay about the same or maybe a little more - but where's the surprise?! If I'd have purchased anything in there today I would have felt like I was splurging and that's not the feeling I want to get when walking away from a "warehouse" with a box of shoes, you know?! I don't think that buying two pairs of shoes for $220 is a steal, I don't. I was in today and everything I found appealing were their most marked up items. It was disheartening. I'm a student, so again, my idea of what is expensive is going to be different than someone who's a few years distanced from her college loans, but I'm fresh in mine and $109 for a pair of knockoff Uggs??!!!! I'm strapped right now but feel as though I shouldn't be beneath DSW for Christ's sake - I hope that they consider the economy and do a little repricing in the next season so that I can afford to shop there again. How can you pack so many wonderful shoes into one place, and keep it so neat and organized? I have never been to a shoe store as tidy and kept as this DSW. With all the customers shopping when I visited today (during lunch times no less), there was not one box, shoe, tissue paper or shoebox clutter anywhere out of place. I had 4 or 5 boxes of shoes beside me at a bench, and as I was re-packaging them in the boxes, a very sincere gentleman approached and said, "I would be happy to take care of those.". :D I'll be honest; I usually buy my tennis shoes from Wal*Mart, because let's face it, I abuse them until they're so gross, you can't even tell what they looked like new. Oh, and there's that little price factor, too. I have a hard time stomaching $80+ for shoes I abuse so badly. Wal*Mart's shoe department isn't near as neat and organized and it's what - 1/10th the size of DSW? Appearances and organization aside, this place has A LOT of shoes. A lot of nice, trendy, affordable shoes. The selection is massive, and for once, it's nice to see a display shoe, look below it and easily find the right shoe style in the proper stack of shoeboxes, and in my size! (We're not all size 6 and 7 - some of us have big feet!) If you're looking for wide shoes, there is plenty to choose from as well. DSW has been close to my heart since I first discovered it hidden inside the Great Mall in Olathe (when there were still stores there). Since then, I've made it a point to stop at DSW's in cities I visit. The common denominator between Chicago, San Francisco, and Kansas City is the quality and value for the product. This location of DSW off of 95th and Quivira is a really nice store. It's not only aesthetically appealing, but also jam packed with shoes and accessories throughout the store. Like any DSW I visit, I make a bee-line for the clearance racks in the back of the store. I can rock 11 - 12 sized shoes and there is usually a very good selection here. Prices are marked down between 30 - 80% in the clearance area and 10 - 20% off MSRP in the regular area. I frequently find great deals on Clarks, Ecco, Cole Haan, and other designer brands. Better than most, this store frequently updates their clearance deals so it's definitely worth a couple trips a month to see what shoes have gone on sale. I refuse to pay pull price for my shoes, especially pricey and comfortable dress shoe options. DSW is a great option for money conscious shoppers. I enjoy coming here for flats, sandals, heels, or boots. The selection varies- sometimes there are lots of cute options, other times the pickings are slim. For the most part it's rarely busy and the shopping experience is enjoyable. They really need more cashiers though. Even when the place is dead, they always seem to have a line at the checkout counter and it goes really slow (especially if there is a return or exchange). read more

This isn't my favorite DSW location, but it is the one nearest to me, so it's the one I most often visit. I always start in the Clearance/Sale selection, as I'm thrifty and like a good deal. I've found that a lot of the time at this DSW the sale selection is pretty limited and there are a lot of shoes in my size that look like they'd be best for ladies of the night, if you know what I mean. BUT when I do score a deal here, it's a pretty darn great one, like when I scored some summery flats in my size, in the perfect shade of green. The non-sale selection at this DSW is on a par with other DSWs, though it does seem like they don't have as many options in larger sizes. The salespeople here pretty much leave you alone, but if you ask for help, they're friendly enough and willing to do what they can to assist you. DSW also sends out coupons and "rewards" fairly often, which is always a good thing. If I can get $10 off my already on sale purchase, why would I NOT shop there? All in all, when I'm in the market for shoes, I'd still rather go to DSW than any department store, and when I find a deal on the perfect pair of shoes, I leave more than happy with my purchases. When all other shoe stores fail, this is the place to turn. Well, that was my lesson of today... I have been searching for new work shoes for almost a month now--not fun! I tried stupid malls, departments stores, big box stores, and online with no avail. Okay, I'm picky, but seriously... So finally, we went to DSW. Almost immediately I found 4 pairs I liked. No joke. Maybe it was the total despair making my judgement become less particular, or maybe its from seeing hundreds of pairs of shoes really well organized by style. Either way, I finally found Steve Madden, Rocketdog, Blowfish and Chinese Laundry in the same store. Amazing! I had options! It felt great, I was in shoe paradise! I brought a pair of shoes from DSW in January. They were really cute sneakers so they weren't appropriate for the winter. I was cleaning my closet and decided to take them out since the weather is getting warmer. I discovered that they left the security tag on them. So I couldn't wear them even if I wanted to. So I took them back to the store. I decided to just return them after the interaction with the store manager Shari. She accused me of wearing the shoes, didn't believe that I really had a receipt then lied about the amount of days of the return policy. I have gone to that DSW for years and it's previous location on 75th street before it moved. I have been a customer for over 20 years. Shari shouldn't be the store manager if she is that rude and disrespectful to her customers. Without customers she wouldn't have a job. I won't be shopping at that location EVER again unless they get a new store manager. She also seems to be racist because the other customers in the store weren't treated or talked to like I was. This is a completely insane shopping scenario. I ordered a pair of shoes on July 6, with standard shipping. That package came in the time I was expecting, by July 16. However, the box had ONE shoe in it, which is ridiculous. I called that very day, waited on hold for one whole hour. Then I finally spoke to someone who put me on hold 3 additional times. I was told the next package would be "hand packaged" and 2 day shipping would be applied. This made sense to me because this was a packaging error on the DSW side that I only received one shoe. The order didn't even process for 3 days, and shipped the next day. However, it is showing a shipping estimation of another week! This is unacceptable and not a good way to keep a customer. read more

The stock and stores are fine. However, if you ever order something online and it is wrong FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TRY TO CALL THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I have been on hold on two separate occasions for over an hour to no avail. In case you're bad at math, that means that I have spent upwards of two hours on hold to discuss a mistake that I didn't make. I wonder if there is a singular employee in their customer service department? Is there just one phone? Is customer service a war of attrition?
