Night Swim has established itself as the best coffee roaster in Charlotte. Their lattes and cappuccinos are consistent across all seven locations--with each extraction tasting exactly the same, allowing the coffee's nuances to emerge through a rich creamy milk foam. In recognition of their well deserved acclaim, I visited all 7 branches throughout the city. Every location possesses a distinct architectural identity, yet all are unified by the central aesthetic of refined minimalism--clean lines, thoughtful seat placement, and sophisticated materiality that reflects their understanding in the delivery of that highly coveted contemporary café experience.

A beautiful little corner coffee shop. Delicious coffee and lovely service. The food options are quite good as well. We enjoyed the yogurt parfait and the quiche of the day. I want to come back in the future to try the avocado BLT. We also had a cappuccino and a cold brew. Both were great.

I'm an Angeleno by way of NYC, in town visiting a Charlotte native who insisted we stop at her favorite neighborhood coffee shop before my Amtrak ride to Raleigh--and I'm glad we did. From the moment we walked up, I had a good feeling. Strong curb appeal and thoughtful exterior design usually signal care, and Night Swim delivered on that promise inside and out. I expected to grab a quick pastry and coffee to hold me over for the three-hour train ride, but Night Swim surprised me with solid light breakfast options. I ordered the quiche of the day, a bagel, and turmeric tea. As a certified NYC bagel snob, I asked to see the bagel before committing. Without hesitation, the staff went back to the kitchen and happily obliged--kind, present, and refreshingly unbothered. The interior is beautiful: warm, intentional, and inviting. We grabbed a cozy corner by the back corner window. The music sat at a whisper (a rare and appreciated touch), making conversation easy. The food was genuinely delicious--comforting without being heavy, perfect before travel. This was an ideal pre-train stop: calm energy, thoughtful service, and quality food. I'll absolutely be back next time I'm in the NoDa area. Would recommend for: a relaxed morning, good conversation, and a quietly excellent bite before heading out of town.

Loved this spot! My friend lives in the apartments nearby so we decided to walk over to grab some coffee and light food for the morning. The atmosphere was great - this would be the perfect spot to come and get some work done, as some of the customers were. The staff was friendly and made some recommendations. I ended up getting the cold brew with maple cardamom syrup and the avocado toast. Both were great! The avocado toast was unique and I loved the mix of texture and flavor. Would definitely recommend trying if in the area!

I was looking for a coffee shop and this one kept showing up on social media so of course I had to try it! The coffee is great even just for a simple vanilla latte! Only downfall is it's a little pricey!

Visited here on a Saturday late morning. There was a DJ playing good music but I was really turned off by how loud it was. I wasn't sure if it's a day party but there's no reason for it to be that loud you couldn't talk too each other inside. The cafe itself is super cute, bright, and nice layout with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Ordering was fine, however it took over 30 minutes for the egg and cheese sandwich, and avocado toast that came with literally one piece of toast. This is crazy for $10?! There's no way avocado toast can cost this much and only be one slice. I ordered cold brew that was not strong at all, they never asked if I wanted any milk, cream, or sweetener so had to go back and forth. I was disappointed in the experience here. Slow service, high prices not worth the value.

Cute little coffee spot right next to my apartment, I can just walk there in 3 minutes. Also, I can walk in with my doggie to order, then sitting outside. Plenti tables and chairs, water bucket for fur babies. I love the coffee with nice design, they serve it in this pretty green glass cup. This past Sunday (4/13) I had a super nice experience with the barista. Usually they yell your name when your order is redy, but this time I got my coffee served to my table, then my sandwich as well. What a nice way of treating me on a Sunday morning. Thank you very much for making the extra miles! I felt so special.

Night Swim takes coffee to a whole new level. You simply can't go wrong; whether you choose a latte, cappuccino, cortado, or cold brew, every drink is of the highest level. The quality of their beans is outstanding, and you can taste the expertise in every sip. Plus, they supply some of Charlotte's best coffee spots-talk about a stamp of approval! Before 2 pm, they serve a menu of breakfast and lunch options. I tried many plates there, like avocado BLT, sesame peanut tofu wrap, which is pretty spicy but a good vegan option, and focaccia sandwich, but my top picks are the quiche of the day (mine had leeks) served with a fresh side salad and the avocado toast on thin multigrain bread, topped with a poached egg and drizzled with irresistible harissa sauce. Morning happiness is guaranteed! The interior is minimalistic, with concrete walls, wooden tables, and an ambiance that exudes a Scandinavian vibe. I also like their dishes and branding on to-go cups - very aesthetic. Night Swim is a great spot if you need a focused work environment. The self-service setup ensures you can work in peace, with fast-working kitchen staff and friendly baristas who keep your coffee cravings satisfied.

They have a comfortable bench to sit on to do work for hours. The latte and hot chocolate were good. I tried the overnight oats for the first time ever, I didn't like them. The staff was friendly.

love love love this location! It is so bright and spacious, food and coffee was very good. I got the caramel latte and breakfast sandwich. Service is always great at night swim locations -- staff is so accommodating and willing to answer any questions. came here to work and it was busy, but lots of seating inside and out! Great addition to the Noda / Optimist park area!

Coffee is amazing, we get the beans regularly and they are always super smooth. The shop itself is super cute and a great space for working. The coffee cake was amazing and super tasty. Maybe this is due to time of day, (I went in around 12:40) but I got a focaccia sandwich and they were out of turkey, so I got a replacement with bacon. The sandwich was not great, the bottom piece of focaccia was very wet, but the bread itself was a bit hard, so the bottom piece ended up being like a sponge from what I assume was from the tomato juices. The overall taste of the sandwich was quite overpowering of the bacon and I unfortunately couldn't taste any other ingredients other than the bacon. The sandwich would have probably been much better with turkey as originally intended. Overall, everything is a bit pricey, but for the small portion of sandwich (and no sides) and for how hard and dry the bread was, it was pretty disappointing. Would pass on the lunch in the future.

This hidden gem needs to be on your radar next time you're looking for a place to catch up with a friend or do some work! There's plenty of seating and tables to do work or eat their yummy food. There's also outdoor seating that allows dogs! The service can be slow because the way they brew their coffee and espresso is very authentic and takes minutes per shot. You'll want to order to go knowing that it might take 10 minutes even when it's slow. Love this place!!

Breakfast sandwich (added bacon) Unsweetened iced matcha with oat milk Bag of Edy Roblas Sosa coffee

This place rocks! What I bought: - Ices maple cardamom latte with oat milk - Breakfast sandwich add bacon - Unsweetened iced matcha with oat milk - Bag of Edy Roblas Sosa beans for home (on recommendation of the barista) I stopped in Charlotte to work today on my way further south, so I wanted to find somewhere with ample seating and great coffee. Some online searching led me to Night Swim and I was NOT disappointed. The individual working the bar (Sid or Syd I believe?) was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and personable. The breakfast sandwich (I added bacon) was bomb and well worth the price. Their coffee is also spectacular and it's clear they know what they're doing when it comes to sourcing, roasting, and preparing it. I spent about 6 hours working here today and never felt out of place or that I was taking up too much room. The layout is extremely conducive to remote working or cooking with a plethora of outlets conveniently located by nearly all of the seats. The employees were even kind enough to wait to ask folks to leave until 3:30 (even though they closed at 3 and all of us silly geese were just working away). TLDR; Seriously can't recommend these guys enough, everything was absolutely incredible!

Review for Amélie's French Bakery & Café…read more As a transplant from the West Coast--specifically San Francisco, where high-quality bakeries and true French pâtisseries are plentiful--I was genuinely excited to try Amélie's after moving to Charlotte. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing, and after giving it more than one chance, it's simply not a place I plan to return to. The concept feels more like a themed destination than a serious bakery. The interior is whimsical and eye-catching, with decorative elements like a faux Eiffel Tower, which clearly appeals to visitors looking for a fun atmosphere. However, if you've spent time in authentic French cafés or bistros, you know the real charm is understated elegance--wood, mirrors, tile, and craftsmanship. This felt more theatrical than authentic. Where it fell short for me was the food. For a place calling itself a French bakery and pâtisserie, the absence of classic laminated pastries was surprising. I was expecting staples like Napoleons, kouign-amann, or beautifully executed croissants. What I found instead were pastries that looked average and lacked the refinement and technique you'd expect from a true pâtisserie. On my visits, I tried: * A leek soup that was supposed to be cream-based but tasted thin and under-seasoned--more like warm vegetable water than a properly developed soup. * A baguette sandwich with fig, Brie, and apple that sounded promising but was poorly executed. The bread was overly hard, and the balance of ingredients felt off, making the sandwich less enjoyable than expected. I gave Amélie's two chances, hoping the second visit would change my impression. It didn't. To be fair, the café clearly has a loyal following and works well as a social or casual gathering spot. But if you're specifically looking for high-quality French pastries or refined bakery craftsmanship, there are stronger options in the Charlotte area. Personally, I'd recommend: * Renaissance Patisserie for more traditional European-style pastries * Paris Baguette at Rea Farms for consistency and better execution * Or trusted local favorites closer to home Bottom line: Fun atmosphere, but the food didn't meet expectations for a French bakery. After multiple visits, it's a pass for me.

Matcha latte and Cronut…read more Coco and the Director is my go-to coffee stop in Uptown--especially when I'm craving a cronut. The cronuts are the real star here. They sell out quickly, so the move is to get there early and grab one while it's still warm. Trust me, if you're going to get one, get two. The café sits inside the lobby level of the Charlotte Marriott City Center, which makes it easy to access if you're already walking around Uptown. If you're doing a quick drive-by, just be friendly with the valet--tip them and pop inside to grab your coffee and pastry. They offer a full coffee program with plenty of alternative milk options (oat milk is my current go-to). I also appreciate the little details like turbinado sugar, bamboo stir sticks, and recyclable cups, which give the place a sustainable touch. The space itself is really stylish and comfortable. There's even a small amphitheater-style seating area, making it a cool spot to hang out, meet friends, or get some work done for a while. Insider tip: Go early for the cronuts--they disappear fast. Overall, it's a fun Uptown café with great coffee, a beautiful space to work or relax, and one of the best cronut stops in the area.

The espresso was perfect. Something we had not had since our arrival. Cortado was great, drip coffee was great, and their latte.... Let me tell you about their latte. I had a carrot cake with cream cheese cold foam. I asked for half the syrup. It was delicious, perfection, amazing. One day I had it hot, the next I had it iced, both were incredible. If I were guaranteed not to go into a sugar spiral, I would drink the cold foam straight. Now I'm preparing to go back tomorrow. Update: We came back two more times before we left NC. No regrets! That search led me to Vicente in South End, and I'm happy to say it absolutely earned its spot on my list. The kouign-amann here was slightly lighter and a bit less dense and buttery than the ones I remember from the Bay Area, but it still hit all the right notes--caramelized edges, flaky layers, and just enough indulgence to satisfy the craving. When you find one in Charlotte, you take note. I also ordered a frangipane (marzipan) croissant, which is always one of my go-to pastries when it's done well. This one delivered--rich, nutty, and comforting without being overly sweet. I'm not much of a chocolate pastry person, so I tend to gravitate toward custard- or almond-filled items, and this bakery clearly understands how to execute those classics. The space itself is beautiful--clean glass storefront, modern aesthetic, and a welcoming feel from the moment you walk in. It's attached to a large apartment complex with underground parking, which makes it surprisingly easy to access. Very walkable, very convenient, and refreshingly low-stress compared to some of the trendier spots. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices felt reasonable for the quality. One small wish: I'd love to see a late-day pastry special or a loyalty program. I'm the kind of regular who will absolutely show up more often if there's an incentive--and let's be honest, pastries are hard to resist when there's a little nudge. I'll definitely be back, especially if they start experimenting with more creative flavors. A kouign-amann with poached fruit--nectarine, mango, or passionfruit--would have me running back through the door. And candidly, I'm grateful Charlotte's pastry scene is still growing. It means there's room for bakeries like this to shine and keep raising the bar. As someone who loves good food, I'm always rooting for local bakers and artisans to succeed. Bottom line: A beautiful neighborhood bakery with solid execution, friendly service, and a kouign-amann worth the trip. I'll be back--and I'm keeping an eye on that pastry case.
