After living in Tucson since 2013, I've learned that there are a few fast-food Mexican restaurants that are basically the same: Los Betos, Filiberto's, and Nico's. Of the three, Nico's is definitely my favorite. I think the food tastes better, and they put both sour cream AND cheese on their veggie burrito without charging extra for the cheese. Los Betos and Filiberto's, take notes. That said, the prices at Nico's keep creeping up, and I honestly don't think it's worth the price anymore. I'll still splurge every now and then and pay the $13 for my burrito, but it's definitely getting harder to justify. The biggest pros are that it's close and fast. I always get my food to go. There's no drive-thru, so you do have to go inside, and the place always smells strongly like Fabuloso--so I guess we can safely assume it's clean. The food isn't always as fresh as I'd like. Sometimes the tortillas are hard or taste a little stale, which can really make or break a burrito. Overall, Nico's is my favorite of the three, but mostly because it's convenient, fast, and I like the flavor better. If the prices keep going up, though, I'm going to have a harder time convincing myself that a $13 fast-food burrito is a splurge worth making. read more

Pretty tasty spot! We got a basic bean & cheese burrito & a Cali burrito, and they were ok. The burritos themselves are longer & thinner, rather than thick & girthy. Flavor wise, pretty tasty. The Cali burrito has potatoes, rather than crispy fries, which a bit a of bummer, but that's preference. Very quick staff & helpful & nice. A clean lil shop, just off the main road, so not out of the way. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. Pretty relatable. read more

This review is based on only one visit. We were foraging for food late one evening, and this was one of the few places still open. The staff was nice and friendly, and they let us order within 15 minutes of their closing time, which I'm grateful for, as every other place we looked at was already closed. We got the carne asada fries and a fish taco. The portions were quite generous and the food was fresh. Points to them. Unfortunately - and this is really weird to me - the flavors were quite bland. Maybe it's an issue with my taste bud, but it just feels like there's not much flavor despite a ton of ingredients in the food. It's like they didn't use enough seasoning or sauce. Just tried one last time with these guys and OMG, the cooking oil was even worse, my wife said we shouldn't stop but I figure one last try it's been over a year. I've been eating burritos in this burg for 40yrs, and not once did I come across this issue with massive amount of cooking oil added to the fixings every time, at this location. If I could leave no stars, I would. This was the worst burrito experience I've ever had. I grew up in Nogales and have lived in Tucson for years. You except ok quality from these fast food burrito joints but this was exceptionally bad. The carne asada was pale as chicken and not salted at all. The egg and machaca burrito also had no salt and both were swimming in liquid from the pico de gallo to the point that they bottomed out and leaked all over our laps as we tried to eat them in the car. The service was great and this place was recommended too us from the hotel we were starting at. We got a good amount of food for the price.

If your hours show open up at 7 AM you should be open at 7 AM or soon after. Showed up at 7:15 this morning waited five minutes raise my arms up as to ask what's going on and the guy inside give me the bird. I was craving Mexican and decided to give Nico's a try. Got a takeout order of the Cheese Enchiladas with rice & beans. Not bad for a little takeout shop in a strip mall. Drove by Tucson on our way home from taking my aunt to Nogales. I was craving a good green chile burrito so we got off the highway and found this on Yelp. Big disappointment. Pork Green Chile was very loose and so were the beans so the burritos got soggy fast and squished out of the tortilla, it made a mess. We ate in our car to get back on the road quickly. But even more disappointing was there was not much green chile flavor at all. The cashier was nice and helpful. Maybe they have other things that are good but I would not recommend the green chile. read more

Not from the area and went looking (last minute) for a quick burrito and happened by this location. 'Fast food' atmosphere, but the burrito's were large and in charge, baby! Had the breakfast burrito and red salsa.. excellent. Service was a little lackluster, but hey it's just a small joint with hot, delicious food. We've been happy to eat at Nico's all over Tucson for going on 12 years.. this location is a tiny hole in the wall, best to order & go. They were often a quick stop for decent food. I've left a handful of positive reviews for Nico's across Tucson on other platforms... However...it WAS fairly easy & economical to deconstruct one of their menu items to make it a low carb protein bomb....not anymore. It's come to the point I can't enjoy smaller & smaller portions, yet continuous rising prices. $7.00 for a breakfast burrito, which weighs half as much as it did in the previous years, just not cool. A tortilla, 4 eggs, a handful of cheese & 2 strips of bacon will cost me $1 at home. I don't think there were even 3 eggs this time. Both myself & the better half noticed the serving was half the size now. No thanks. Not cool, Nico's...not cool at all. I feel icky leaving this review..but jeez. Enough is enough. read more

Incredibly fresh. The Carne Asada was not greasy. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the tortillas were very nice and fresh.

I have visited all Nicos locations and this one is by far the best. I order at least twice a week and never has failed to disappoint.... yes I do get the same thing but if it's not broke, don't fix it right? Pollo Asado burrito add rice & get a combo of red and green salsa. You can thank me later! Or if I'm trying to go on the "lighter" side, their rolled tacos are amazing with a side of beans and rice. read more

The best way to describe my experience is that everything was "just okay". Ordered a burrito and it was okay. I had a chicken gotta and it was okay get I was not a fan of the amount of red sauce on the chicken. Simply put, I've had better to read and this one was just okay. A little unruly to eat! Also tried the chips with guac and the guac isn't the greatest. I suspect it had some acid in it to keep it green but it just wasn't amazing. Good for a quick, cheap bite but not a Mexican restaurant that I would frequent. Everything was okay, but nothing really makes me yearn to go back. read more

I used to love Nico's! Today I ordered for pickup and got there ten minutes late.... Knowing the food would be there when I got there... in the past the food wasn't ready. The first thing the woman behind the register said was "oh you're the one who ordered for 30 minutes? Since you're late I don't think it will be any good." Her tone was so rude and she had the worst attitude. After I paid she said "are you waiting for a receipt?" In the worst tone again. The food was delicious but the service was terrible. Been here twice. Thought maybe the first time was a fluke. It wasn't. First time I ordered the taquitos and when I got them they were not cooked all the way (still cold inside). Second time I ordered the breakfast burrito. It was just ok. Lots of potatoes and not very much bacon/meat. Tried the "shredded beef" burrito and bit into raw veggies. Unrolled it to remove raw onion and found at least a cup full of raw bell peppers, onion, and tomato pieces. I have been going there for 20 years only to find out last week that they have close this location.

Looking at some of the Yelp comments, I guess I should not be overly surprised. Anyway, hours show opening at 7am, arrived at 7:02 to get food for house guests. Doors finally opened at 7:30, I waited as the food was to be for others. During that time 8 other customers came and went, a couple stating that this is a regular occurrence - who knew? At 7:30 I went around the side and saw the guy that I had seen working the grill and "nicely" asked when they were opening. He went in and slammed the door. I went back around to the front and the girl was opening the door. When asked, she said they had both been there since 6:40am having arrived late. I told her that they could have come to the door to tell us (us being two by that time, 4 at about 7:20 or so). I explained that I would not be coming to this location again. Nico's in other areas of town are not like this. Avoid this location and go to another location. I will be going to the Marana location. lol, hell of a way to run a business. read more
