I never would have guessed I would find a natural hairstylist on yelp, but I did and she is such a caring hairstylist. I came in and explained my concerns (being treated like every other natural) and Nicole explained her process and asked questions before beginning. I truly appreciate that. I didn't go into a salon and leave with a sore scalp. I have very tight coils and my hair has been combed with small tooth combs that yank my fine coils. It is also wrung out which causes serious tangles. This is why I opt not to wear my hair in natural styles. Based on her ratings, I decided to give this shop a try. Nicole is gentle while effective. I called her last min on a Thursday afternoon and was sitting at her bowl 2 hours later. I was so happy she was able to accommodate me. Sh took her time & explained to me about the products she was using on my hair & the process of the silk press since it was my first time getting one. I am transitioning & am very picky with my hair (style & products alike). Nicole was really knowledgeable about natural hair health. The place is really done nicely, clean, welcoming. They have a large lounge area away from the individual salons that have snack and drink options. I waited sometime to provide this review. I was looking for a stylist closer to me and searched for one via yelp. The reviews were fantastic so I thought it was a win win. I also looked at her pictures on social media just to confirm. Nicole the person- Nicole is a very warm person. Very personable and professional. When, I got to my appointment I didn't have to wait. She started on me as soon as I walked in. It was very important to me to find a stylist that was not overbooked. We chatted about the length of time she has been a stylist, life, kids, marriage, spirituality, etc. Nothing too personal. I felt welcomed. She asked if I could leave a yelp review. I promised her I would. Nicole the stylist- My hair was just OK. I have extensions and Nicole said that she could work with them. I got a simple shampoo, blow dry, and curl. I wasn't exactly happy after it was done. I couldn't figure out why though. After all, I had just had a pleasant experience. I left and went home only to find that every single curl had fallen. I only live about 20 minutes away in traffic. I immediately contacted Nicole and sent her pictures. She said that I could come back and she would address it. I was irritated because it was date night for my husband and I and I had to re-curl my hair. I went back a few days later and Nicole re-curled my hair. I haven't returned. I realized what it was about my hair that I didn't like. It was missing a finishing touch, a polished look. It looked like I had a teenager style my hair. It didn't look like I had a professional style it. I looked at the picture that I sent to her, as well as, the ones on her social media page and saw the same thing...unfinished curls. The curls in my hair and on others, were not complete, firm, finished, or polished looking. While, Nicole is a very pleasant person, I believe she has some growing and learning to do when it comes to styling hair. This was THERAPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nicole is so down to earth, personable and good at what she does. By trade, I am a therapist and honey I felt like I getting therapy and beatified all at the same time. What I love about the salon is that it is individualized to each stylist. I sat and waited while she finished a sew in for a beautiful and intelligent young lady named Elizabeth from Oakland, CA. As we shared our opinions about current events and personal lives, I felt right at home as if these women were my family. Nicole's spirit was uplifting and more importantly she listened and delivered on the services that I requested in a timely manner. I came from Richmond, VA just to get a makeover as Devonna B. had actually referred me several months ago. My cut, relaxer and style took less than 2 hours and that was on virgin natural hair. I visited Nicole for the first time on April 1st and was very impressed with her professionalism. When I arrived at her salon, she greeted me and made sure she had a clear understanding of what I wanted. Even though she had not tried the particular braiding technique before (sewing on a large braid for a halo style), she was more than willing to accommodate. Went back again to get my hair done after a couple weeks of doing it myself. I came to get my regular wash and silk press but after going over what I wanted to do and different styles we decided to do goddess braids. I did not have the proper hair but Nicole went out of her way to help me get the necessary hair. The best part about it, it still only took an hour. I have been going to Nicole for three years now and I have not let a single person other than Nicole do my hair in that time period. Nicole is not only an amazing hair stylist, she is, more importantly, an incredible person! 3 years ago, I had recently gotten married and decided to go natural. I had been getting Brazilian blow outs, but using a lot of heat and my ends were breaking. Essentially, I had no idea what I was doing since I was a weave and braids kinda girl before this. My husband found Nicole on yelp, she has transformed my hair. She teaches, educates, and handles your hair with care. Her shampooing and conditioning are one of my favorite parts of getting my hair done. It's not rushed and she takes her time to make sure your hair is clean. If necessary, she will suggest protein treatments, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning, trims, etc, to make sure your hair is healthy and growing as it should be. Nicole has done a variety of style for me including silk press with either a curly or straight style, buns, rod and set, and crochet braids. I love that with Nicole you are not sitting around and your appointment time is your appointment time. When I came to Nicole, my hair was about midway down my neck, and now is past my shoulders. What I've seen from Nicole in these past 3 years is her amazing heart. She is God fearing, has a beautiful family, raised wonderful children, and is selfless. I've found myself a new stylist! I recently went to Nicole to get box braids and I couldn't be anymore pleased. This was my first time getting this hairstyle and I wasn't sure what to expect. Nicole guided me on the type of hair I should get and how to maintain my style. She was very gentle on my tender head throughout the seven-hour process as well. She didn't pull on my edges too much, nor did she carelessly break off my fly-away hairs. In the two weeks that I've had this style, I've gone to the gym and on vacation and my hair still looks great! Nicole is also extremely professional. Unlike other stylists, she was focused on me and my hair the whole time. She didn't take too many calls or hold too many side conversations while she braided my hair. I have been natural for 11 years and never straightened my hair so I was very nervous.
