I was looking for a tailor shop, not necessarily a dry/cleaner tailor and Nicky's popped up. Unfortunately, my experience was less than expected. If you arrive by car, street parking is sparse, but there are some spots available. The inside is quaint, but has all the space needed. I walked in and was instructed to go in the back. I was a bit confused, because I didn't communicate what I needed and there was already a customer in the rear. In the back cubby hole, it's the sewing station to the left, the fitting room in front of you and a storage room to the right. I entered the fitting room, put on the pants I wanted hemmed and the owner put one pin in the right leg. By the time I took the pants off and went to the counter to checkout, the pin came out. I had to go and put the pants back on for him to put only two pins on the same side. When I was ready to check out, the cashier took my information and stated I could pay now or at pick up. My hemming was $30 and if I used a card, there was an additional $5 fee. My pants were slated to be ready in 2 business days but they were ready the next day. All in all, Nicky's has been around for a long time based on the pictures inside of the tailor shop. I think his approach to his work and the overall quality has gotten too lax and comfortable. read more

Let me just say Nicky went above and beyond to make sure I looked amazing for my event. If I had been him, I would have shut the blinds on me if I came in one more time! The first time, my dress needing tailoring. He had it complete on the date and time promised. The day of my event, my zipper completely came off track (no fault of his) and I was not able to go to my event. I rescheduled for the next weekend in hopes, with his busy schedule he could fix it (again) so I could finally fit my dress. Needless to say, the dress fit like a glove. He fit me in even though he had an entire suit to make. He came in on his day off and I felt and looked amazing in my dress. I am and will recommend him for all alterations and tailoring. Contacted Nicky's for last minute alterations to my boyfriends suit for a wedding. I called to explain what I needed, the fact that he would not be present for measurements AND that I needed this done in a day. He asked that I brought a suit jacket that fit him to his liking, and said he would use this as a guide. To my surprise he delivered with no trouble. I called Nicky's super last minute to get a dress altered for a Christmas party, and he was extremely generous and helpful. I'm usually nervous about taking my nicer dresses to alteration shops because sometimes you never know how your clothes will end up looking after being put back together. But, my dress was flawless. I have taken several suits and jackets here for alterations and have been very happy with the outcome each time. Nicky listens to you and I really appreciate that he will let you know if having something done isn't a good idea and why. I will say his prices are higher than what most tailors charge because he is a craftsman and you're paying for his time regardless of the service he's performing for you. If you only need something simple done (like pants being hemmed) you should save money and go somewhere else but if you need more complex tailoring done then his prices are absolutely justified and he's going to make the garment look better on you. read more

Very bad experience. Do not go there if you have any other options 50 miles away. I gave him my coat for minor repair of pockets. As the pockets are not seen from outside, it was not even a cosmetic matter, it was more of a functional issue so that I can keep using the pockets (the lining was torn). He told me it will be ready in about 5 days. It was already a much longer time than what I had expected, however I agreed. I tried 2 times to get my coat after work around 5 pm (It says store closes at 6) and it was closed. I ended up getting there about 3 weeks after the time I gave him the coat and he told me with a big smile that it is not ready as he was very busy past couple of days. At first I thought he was joking, but soon learned he is not. I asked him if he is going to somehow make up for the huge delay and not communicating with me. He told me he can try to get it ready in 3 days (about a month form when I gave him the coat for a very minor repair). Seriously??! I asked him if he thinks he should consider at least giving me a discount, and he says he can't ( He had originally asked for 20$ for a minor repair of the pocket). In the middle of discussion he stands up and says we do not need to discuss this and goes to another room. I am puzzled, asking him so what is the plan now and he says i will return your coat. He did not even bother to apologize for the delay let alone trying to somehow make up for the inconvenience he has caused. Very unprofessional. Morale of the story 1. Do not go there! 2. If you ever do, be prepared for huge delays without him taking any responsibility for it or even offering a simple apology. read more

I learned a long time ago, from folks I respect, that one is always better off building relationships with local professionals who can be relied on to to good work at a fair price. I think the simple direction I received was "you will never be diappointed with a purchase if you opt for quality". So I am delighted to have found Nicky's Tailoring. Don't go there if you want a customer made top for a wedding. He will put you off instead of saying i can't do it. There is no dis honor in admitting you can do something. Personally I would respect you more if you tell me you can do something and you don't come through with a work of art, instead he gave me something that a first year apprentice would do. The ppl who have seen me in the custom garments are simply amazed as the dress appears that it was designed to tell a story from the very detail and style added by Nicky Baltimore's finest Tailor in the business. From men's custom suits, shirts & clothing needs to women dress, pants & suits meet a tailor who does it all. The turn around time was great. I had 14 days to get my garments done and even though Nicky and his staff have a lot of clients to serve I received my 1st fitting in 5-7 days, by the 10th day a final fitting was complete & picked up by the 12th day (even in the midst of several snow storms). I had completely the opposite experience of the gentleman that talks about special attention and getting clothes readied over Labor Day Weekend. I took two jacket to the shop on July 28th to have the sleeves shortened. I was told that the tailor would have them ready within 10 days to two weeks prior to his taking a vacation. My office was to be called when the coats were ready. Just before Labor Day -- a month later-- I visited the shop. My coats were hanging behind the counter with the sleeves only partially completed. Told to come back in two weeks I waited three. Called this afternoon and was told the jackets couldn't be found. Went there in person and "miraculously" they had been retrieved from the basement. Nicky is a true craftsman. He seamlessly brought in a jacket which was originally many sizes too big. And when I needed one more adjustment after a week of wearing, he fixed it free of cost. He takes pride in his work and wants you to be as happy as possible with the way you look. I'm very disappointed with my experience. I was eager to take my wedding dress to Nicky's Tailoring after reading such great reviews. The first issue I had with the shop was a total lack of communication; I had left numerous voicemails and sent an email over the course of a week and received no response. Finally, someone answered when I called and told me I could bring my dress in. I went to the shop within a couple of hours of that call and met with another gentleman (Nicky wasn't there) I needed the bottom of my dress brought up (my dress is very simple, lace, no beading or embellishments.) He told me that they could bring the hem at the FRONT of my dress up, and even showed me how it's done referencing the seams that they would cut, etc. When I asked about also bringing the back of the dress up (since the back was even LONGER and obviously the entire hem should be proportionately altered) he sort of stumbled through why that wouldn't be possible, saying that there wasn't a seam that could be altered using the same method that he had just described for the front of the dress. When I showed him the seams that surround the entire circumference of the dress, he actually said "Yeah that would be a really big job" Um, okay? He clearly just didn't want to do the work that I was very willing to pay for. If wedding dresses aren't something this shop is interested in working on, they should be very clear about that and not waste precious time for potential customers. read more

Seemed like a nice responsible guy. Had him alter a gown for my daughters wedding. It required hemming and one shoulder adjustment. Called to make sure dress was ready, tried it on and could not help but notice the sloppy bulky job done on the shoulder. He concurred that it was a very poor job and offered to fix it. I left the dress and it was later picked up by my husband. Because I am in treatment and at that time experiencing side effect never tried the dress on till the day of the wedding when I discovered it had never been hemmed and there were loose threads at shoulder repair. I spent my daughter wedding date stepping on the hem of the dress or picking it up so I could walk. This had a huge negative impact on a very special day I will never get back. If he could not handled the job he should have told straight up. I would gladly have gone elsewhere to have the job properly done. He got paid in full for a shoulder adjustment!
