Benedict and grits
Alison M.

My husband is a huge fan and has been here several times. He used to live just down the street so he would walk over with friends and his son when home for summer and eat either breakfast or lunch here. It's very reasonably priced and the menu has all the breakfast staples you want - benedicts, waffles, omelettes, eggs and hash, corned beef, etc. They also had chip beef and gravy! Large sandwich and lunch on the other side of the menu with salads and other items to please just about anyone. I went for my standard and got the eggs benedict and the eggs were perfectly cooked with a delicious hollandaise sauce and large serving of grits cooked to my granny's perfection. Husband got the corned beef hash and enjoyed it and my mom ordered more traditional with eggs, toast, and protein. Coffee was good and hot and fresh and kept being refilled by our attentive waitress. Solid first experience, will def. come back.

Menu

Delicious and great portions. Menu does not match what I have found online. Took a picture and to update.

Chesapeake Bay Burger and some really tasty fries
Erin M.

The food is really good, I recommend the buffalo shrimp - yum! - and aside from great seafood, the burgers, fries, (I got the Chesapeake Bay Burger), and sandwiches are delicious too. It's a clean little restaurant, with tons of history, and best of all, the prices are reasonable. It's seat yourself and go early (or late) as there isn't a ton of seating. If you are in VB on vacation, this is a great little place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner that won't disappoint or break the bank.

a plate of oysters with a side of mashed potatoes

Ordered the seafood platter. For $35, I got: - 1 filet of bland fish - 3 bland shrimps - 3 bland scallops that were not cooked through - 3 salty oysters, also slimy and a bit disgusting - 1 extremely salty crabcake that tasted just like salt and nothing else - 1 side of lima beans tasting like it came out of an old can - 1 side of mashed potato We brought up the salty crabcake issue and the waitress' immediate response was 'we served it three times this evening and nobody said anything'. Not even a 'sorry, let me check with the kitchen' or something like that. When you work in a customer service capacity your job is to listen to the customers' concerns first instead of questioning them. Then find a solution. They replaced the crabcake with three puny shrimps. I'm amused and offended. It's as if they think I don't know what the value of a crabcake vs that of three kiddy shrimps is. Bad food accompanied by bad service. It is definitely a feat that this restaurant has been in business for 71 years.

A "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite breakfast experience ... doesn't get any more "local" than "Nick's" in the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Home-made "creamed chipped-beef" over home-fries is my personal favorite! "Run-A-Way Bill" 01.29.16 ---- Virginia Beach, Virgina --- "Nick's" was my 1st breakfast visit after 4 months roaming the USA pARTy Trails! Besides their famous early-bird "Pooch" special, I go for their tasty-riffic "creamed cipped-beef" over their yummy-riffic home-fries. Service always leaves me with "More Smiles Than I Came In With!" too ... a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite USA eatery! "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! #RunAwayBill #VirginiaBeach 12.22.17 ---- 05.02.19 New ownership renovation added additional counter seating BUT the counter requires customers to sit side saddle and lean inward towards the counter. Same reliable serving team always makes me leave wanting more. "Nick's" has always been a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite eatery. 07.30.21

I had high expectations, and somehow they still exceeded them. They're the highest rated seafood restaurant in the Virginia Beach area on Yelp, and for good reason. There was even a small wait on a Wednesday night, which honestly told me everything I needed to know before we even sat down. Our server, Jenny, was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and always seemed to show up right when we needed something. The head chef also stopped by our table and was incredibly kind and genuinely invested in making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. That level of hospitality really made the experience feel special. The meal started with a complimentary amuse-bouche of roasted golden beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and balsamic. It was a classy little bite that got the evening off to a great start. Then came the sweet potato biscuits with apricot jam...listen, I could've eaten an entire basket of those and been perfectly happy. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. These are the kind of crab cakes people are looking for. They were packed with lump crab, full of flavor, and had virtually no filler. Every bite was delicious. From start to finish, everything was on point. Great food, genuine hospitality, and a team that clearly cares about what they're serving. It took me over a decade to make it back, but I can promise it won't be another ten years before my next visit. Highly recommend.

The service was top notch from the moment we walked in the door until we stepped outside. They were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and even double checked to be sure what I ordered was gluten free. I ordered the Twisted Salmon Oscar (from the menu; Baked Atlantic salmon smothered in asparagus, lump crab meat, and dill-lime hollandaise sauce). It was sooooo good. I don't usually eat much but I ate way too much today! Larry enjoyed the Fresh seafood Combination with blackened flounder (from the menu; Fresh catch, sea scallops, and lump crab cake: broiled, fried, or blackened). He also ordered the Fried Eastern Shore Oysters (from the menu: Perfectly breaded, flash fried crispy, and served with our barrier island sauce) as an appetizer and said both were delicious. all of the food came out so quick and were perfectly cooked. While we waited we enjoyed drinks from the bar and they even brought out a small bit of poke, even making sure it was gluten free for me! And lets not forget desert. I enjoyed the creme brulee and Larry enjoyed the key lime pie. We probably shouldn't have had desert but how could we say no! The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Perfect for a date night. We will most definitely be back!

We went on a Friday for happy hour which ran until 7pm. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day and they have ample outdoor seating. Only slightly disappointed they didn't have any cocktails on the happy hour menu. Ended up trying a Pina Colada and The CP's which tasted like peach and raspberry which was sweeter than I thought it would be, probably won't be ordering again. The highlight for me was the mussel bowl. It was so delicious and the garlic bread that it came with perfectly soaked up the juices. The shrimp were pretty good as well and give a decent amount for happy hour. The service was pretty good. It started getting busier as to be expected and took a little bit longer to get our checks. I would come back though especially for the mussels.

We were a party of 8 and sat on the patio and it was the perfect weather night. I can't say enough good things about Justin who took great care of us. The Mediterranean Flatbread was my favorite and amazing! I would go back just for that and make it a meal. I decided on the Scallops.....Scallops Barca. They were delicious and perfectly cooked but the menu said they were served in a puff pastry but were served on TOP of the puff pastry. I am thinking that is some kind of short cut. It was a bit strange. I decided on the red potatoes instead of the rice. They were very good....not hot though but still good. Six of us came in around 6:30 for a college reunion weekend, wanting one proper local seafood meal out of the trip. We put our names down and grabbed drinks from the bar before choosing a space to sit outside. The restaurant is really big, with indoor seating, outdoor sea-facing tables, and a little market in the back. There's also a picnic table area with some giant lawn game going, which is where we enjoyed our drinks, making the wait genuinely pleasant instead of something to endure. For our first round, we tried the "crush," the local specialty, and ordered one of every flavor. Fresh squeezed juice, flavored vodka, triple sec, Sprite. Grapefruit and cherry limeade were the winners. The pineapple was awful. None of them were very strong, so after the novelty wore off I moved on to something more my speed (nothing beats a tequila soda). They also have a respectable beer selection. Our table ended up right by the water with a view of the boats, and our waitress was so helpful walking us through the menu, including the fact that lumpia is a local specialty here thanks to the area's Filipino population, which I did not know. We got oysters and three other appetizers, then split one entree between every two people since the portions are enormous. The fried shrimp was the unanimous favorite, and the spinach crab dip, lumpia, blackened crab cake (almost everyone ordered it), potato salad, and hushpuppies were all excellent. All of that, plus roughly two cocktails a person and tip, came to about $50 each, which felt like quite the steal for high quality seafood! Big attached parking lot, docks if you're coming in by boat, and the market sells shirts, hats, fresh crab meat, take-home versions of the appetizers, and fishing basics. There was a bit of a line/wait if you wanted to use the women's restroom (but isn't that the case everywhere?) I would definitely come back here next time I'm in town!!
