There is something special about Nick's Auto Service. If you don't know Nick, you'd better read my review. The engine warning light lit up on my SUV out of nowhere. Since its time for my annual safety inspection, I decided to found a car mechanic for help. I first went to my usual mechanic but he wasn't there. Then, I used Yelp app to find a closest one. But it was closed. Finally, I searched state inspection website. Nick's Auto Service was on the top of list. Oh, I know Nick is open. I drove by every day. Like any other inspection operators, they will always tell you something minor such as windshield wiper needed to be replaced and stuff. Nick actually found more than that. He saw my brake fluid was low. He offered to top it off for a minimal fee. I rarely pay attention to this vehicle because I don't use it often. Nobody told me the inspection contains 2 parts: Safety and Emission. Why? Not a single garage mechanic cares to educate me about my vehicles. Nick ran safety inspect. It passed. He collected my service fee while computer doing the emission test. Well, that didn't go well. It failed on a fuel filter. He pointed out a broken wire above radiator. Ahhh... I suspected the rodent family left me a surprise with a price tag. I quickly googled it and found a price and a quote which was near the price he gave me. The repair cost came to about $300. After the broken part replaced, my engine warning light went away, inspection passed and I was happy. I remember Nick's Auto Service vividly when I arrived Houston over a decade ago. I used to walk to HEB and I always have to jump over a mud pile in front of his shop. He recently replaced the sign because he proud his work as being an European car repair socialist with an ASE designation. Nick doesn't advertise, he said. If you are a new customer, you need to endure his spills about his experience and stuff. He came from Greece 40 years ago on March 26. He repaired European cars back home. This place is an absolute joke! Nick seems like a pretty nice guy but he will rip you off and lie straight to your face. I brought in my BMW for diagnosis. He says just plugging in his computer will cost $95... "since I have never seen you before I am giving you a discount. Usually I charge $170" what a load of crap. Autozone and other shops wouldn't charge you just to run your car through that little diagnosis machine. I needed answers to why my car was stalling and didn't wanna risk driving to another place. I payed the $95, shame on me. He then goes... I cannot read the codes that are popping up and you need to go to the dealership to find out what's wrong. So basically I paid him $95 for absolutely nothing. He happily accepted my payment tho He is a grease ball and completely worthless. His establishment is an absolute joke. DO NOT COME HERE. NIck, screw you man. UPDATE: I went to my local German car mechanic that DID NOT charge me for the computer diagnosis. He then replaces one of my coils FOR FREE. I would give 0 star to this place if I can make it. They are liars! I just wanted a simple car inspection, they told me that my car has so many problems, and they failed the inspection. I have to let everyone know that if your car just has one minor problem or two minor problems, and they are not supposed to fail your car inspection. I just paid they the inspection fees and I went my friend's shop. My friend found one of my ground wire had been cut off. It was a very new and neat cut. They also made so many other problems for my car. Thank god that I knew somebody who is an auto mechanic. I was so lazy to go to my friends' shop and I'm so regret that I didn't straightly go to his shop. My friend did everything for me just for a favor! He told me they could charge like $1000 for those problems. read more

Absolute gem of a place, was incredibly helpful. First time, went to change my breaks and Nick was knowledgeable, informative and prepared for the job. He also pointed out cosmetic damage, to my plastic around the wheel of my car, he helped me fix the damage without up charging me. The second time, I went was because I ran over a blown tire on the freeway and needed to insure no damage was underneath my car. As there was cosmetic damage on the front bumper. He Didn't charge me for my concerns and offered his knowledge taking the time to explain what was under my car. Great man and very happy with my experience. I want to speak to the poor review and say, that if you expect things for free obviously you will be disappointed as people make a living off their business and respect goes both ways. Yes, I should have read the reviews before going to Nick's Auto Service. I went for an inspection and was later was told that electrical cable was not working and he failed me for the inspection. There is nothing wrong with vehicle. After paying for the "failed inspection" he asked if I wanted him to fix it. I said no, and left. I went to another mechanic and he diagnosed the problem with OBD and found nothing wrong. I wasn't even charged. He mention to take my car to another inspection place to get my VIR. There are plenty of reputable mechanics. Don't go to Nick's Auto Service for an inspection and any service. read more

I see that some customers of Nick's Auto Service are complaining about their service. I would like to share my experience with this mechanic garage. Yes, Nick's auto service is a small shop and has its advantages and disadvantages, like every other shop. I have known Nick for a long time and have been taking my cars to him for most of the repairs. He is a very knowledgeable, personable, and easy to work with mechanic. He always inspects my cars for any additional problems that might surface in the future and advice me for corrections or repairs. Don't allow you inside to wait in AC so you're forced to wait in the hot Houston heat. They rig their tinting system so that even factory tint from the dealership fails your inspection. When trying to explain it was factory I got yelled at saying I wanted to send him to jail. Should have listened to the reviews to begin with. STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! They scam you to fail your inspections so they can take your money and hope you come back after fixing the "issues" they "found" from their inspection. Save yourself the time and money and go to a reputable shop, inspections are the same price everywhere. Only went here cause it's close to my work. read more

BE AWARE! This guy will charge you double other mechanics do! He does not give an itemized bill! He will put defected parts in your car. He will talk your ear off saying how honest he is but don't fall for him. You will be better off taking your car to someone else. read more

Took car in for oil change. Left with a $68 bill. I asked why the bill was so high. He said he fixed some type of cover under my car and needed a new air filter. If you want repeat customers, you do not fix something prior to asking the customer and then charge them for it. read more
