What an awesome place! Just upon walking in one thinks of times like Happy Days! Red, black and white. I had to try burger; it was really good. I also had the fried zucchini; not bad for frozen . The service was above what I have recently found! Who I thought may be manager even suggested I move over a stool to be more comfortable; they were set at different levels. Everyone was so friendly. Beef fajitas were very good and a huge amount, enough to take home leftovers. Multiple waiters asked if we were doing okay. It's in a small strip mall and very quiet. We'll be back the next time we are in the area. read more

Very cute restaurant! It's like stepping back in time. The shake was delicious! The hot dog was all beef and cooked perfectly. The curly fries were soggy and greasy. This place was slammed and people were waiting for a table. The waitresses even though running around kept everyone's drinks filled and were very attentive. The team work in this place is spot on. But we found a counter seat (and found out we could have had patio seating as well). It's charming: great 50s decor (particularly fun was the ladies' room with beefcake photos of celebrities on blue walls). We both got exactly what we wanted, exactly as ordered. Libby the manager was a one-woman miracle worker, literally doing two things at once and talking to herself, then to customers, calling us "honey" and warm as well as efficient. Typically eat breakfast here with my dad a few times a month, however, went for lunch with my mom and had inedible food. My French Dip was room temperature, mom's hamburger - near raw. Onion rings saturated in grease (the temp of the fryer was off or way too old...) The food was timed bad by the kitchen. All was sent back, but management was on top of it.... (sarcasm) 10 min after this all occurred. [When food gets sent back... management should be on it] . We left with no bill (we didn't eat anything presented to us) but empty stomachs. Great local diner and on your way to Nogales! It's a must stop. Not only do they serve breakfast all day but great selection of sandwiches and burgers. Beginning most days with the smiles of all the employees, the best coffee and vitals available in southern Arizona makes even a bad day more fun than the back nine at Rio Rico Country Club. That restaurant has had a few owners, but Nick, his wonderful family and the staff that always is a joy to begin your day with, please hang around for a decade or two! Update, the morning "chef" that where's the black cap has all of a sudden developed an attitude that has this patron very upset. I love this diner and of all the restaurants that have been at this very same building previously, Nickel's has done it best and continues to do so. This is definitely a restaurant where you feel at home and the servers make you feel like they're family. Not only is the food good but it's priced very reasonably. I really enjoy having breakfast at the bar. The girls and cooks all have a great sense of humor and make your meal a little more entertaining and enjoyable. The staff brazenly ignored us. Even though the cashier saw us enter, she did not offer for us to be put on the wait list & instead put someone else on the list who came after us. She knew there was a wait list; we did not. I spoke up & she corrected it, with no apology. Staff members seated 4 other parties before us, even though they came after us-One party came in after were waiting 30 minutes & they got seated right away! We were vacationing at the Esplendor Resort at Rio Rico and wanted something besides resort food. We looked up Nickel's Diner and read the reviews. We decided to give it a shot, and we were not disappointed. The service was "meh" but the food more than made up for it. The 3 egg omelette was delicious, and whatever seasonings are on their home fries was so satisfying. We decided to try a cinnamon roll also, which looked dry, but wasn't. It was all so very good.
