I really wanted to like Nickles Diner because the staff were incredibly friendly and were honestly the highlight of our visit. Everyone we interacted with was kind, courteous, and tried to be helpful. Unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming. We ordered the burger with mac & cheese, a French dip sandwich, biscuits and gravy, chili cheese fries, zucchini fries, and drinks for two adults and two kids. None of us finished our meals. My son's mac & cheese had a pool of oil underneath it, the biscuits and gravy left a greasy film on the roof of our mouths, the cheese on the chili cheese fries tasted very artificial, and the zucchini fries were slimy. I also found a piece of brown paper in my food. I showed it to the staff, and they apologized. They told me they would remove the meal from the bill and even offered me a cinnamon roll for the inconvenience, which I initially accepted because I appreciated the gesture. However, when I went to pay, I realized they had only discounted the meal by half instead of removing it entirely. At that point, everything kind of fell apart for me. I no longer wanted the cinnamon roll because I was genuinely disappointed with the entire experience. I didn't argue about it because the staff had been very kind, it had already taken quite a while just to pay, and I needed to leave. Another surprise was the pricing. The menu made it seem like the meals came with a side, but we were charged separately for each one. The drinks were around $4 each, even for the kids. Our total came to $73 before the partial discount and was still about $65 afterward. I understand this isn't meant to be gourmet dining, and I'm usually perfectly happy with simple diner food if it tastes good. Unfortunately, this just didn't. It was one of those meals where you leave thinking, "Well, I ate," but not feeling like you actually enjoyed it. For the price, it was especially disappointing. I honestly feel like we could have had a better meal almost anywhere else for less money even somewhere like McDonald's, and I'm not a fan of McDonald's. I truly appreciate how friendly and accommodating the staff were, which is why I'm giving more than one star. I just hope the food quality and value improve because the service deserves better than the food that's being served. read more

Absolutely fantastic all the way around!!!! Service from EVERYONE was superb! They have really great choices for breakfast and lunch! From omelettes to sandwiches to tacos! Don't forget to get a malt! We chose chocolate and it was to die for! The atmosphere is so fun! Extremely cute Diner! I cannot wait to come back to try the Banana split!!! What an awesome place! Just upon walking in one thinks of times like Happy Days! Red, black and white. I had to try burger; it was really good. I also had the fried zucchini; not bad for frozen . The service was above what I have recently found! Who I thought may be manager even suggested I move over a stool to be more comfortable; they were set at different levels. Everyone was so friendly. Really great breakfast in a rock 'n' roll diner experience. Totally would go back again. Great waitress as well.

Beef fajitas were very good and a huge amount, enough to take home leftovers. Multiple waiters asked if we were doing okay. It's in a small strip mall and very quiet. We'll be back the next time we are in the area. read more

You get a genuine diner feel as soon as you walk into this plac. Food is good - must try their salsa. Their machaca is really good. Very cute restaurant! It's like stepping back in time. The shake was delicious! The hot dog was all beef and cooked perfectly. The curly fries were soggy and greasy. This place was slammed and people were waiting for a table. The waitresses even though running around kept everyone's drinks filled and were very attentive. The team work in this place is spot on. Perfect in every way! My sister and I came here on a Saturday morning, and the number of cars outside concerned us. But we found a counter seat (and found out we could have had patio seating as well). It's charming: great 50s decor (particularly fun was the ladies' room with beefcake photos of celebrities on blue walls). We both got exactly what we wanted, exactly as ordered. Libby the manager was a one-woman miracle worker, literally doing two things at once and talking to herself, then to customers, calling us "honey" and warm as well as efficient. Great local diner and on your way to Nogales! It's a must stop. Not only do they serve breakfast all day but great selection of sandwiches and burgers. They also have a number of items on the menu for vegetarians (besides breakfast). I decided to get the veggie sandwich. It came on a warm ciabatta roll with every kind of sauteed veggie inside. Typically eat breakfast here with my dad a few times a month, however, went for lunch with my mom and had inedible food. My French Dip was room temperature, mom's hamburger - near raw. Onion rings saturated in grease (the temp of the fryer was off or way too old...) The food was timed bad by the kitchen. All was sent back, but management was on top of it.... (sarcasm) 10 min after this all occurred. [When food gets sent back... management should be on it] . We left with no bill (we didn't eat anything presented to us) but empty stomachs. Beginning most days with the smiles of all the employees, the best coffee and vitals available in southern Arizona makes even a bad day more fun than the back nine at Rio Rico Country Club. That restaurant has had a few owners, but Nick, his wonderful family and the staff that always is a joy to begin your day with, please hang around for a decade or two! Update, the morning "chef" that where's the black cap has all of a sudden developed an attitude that has this patron very upset. I love this diner and of all the restaurants that have been at this very same building previously, Nickel's has done it best and continues to do so. This is definitely a restaurant where you feel at home and the servers make you feel like they're family. Not only is the food good but it's priced very reasonably. I really enjoy having breakfast at the bar. The girls and cooks all have a great sense of humor and make your meal a little more entertaining and enjoyable. Food comes out quickly and is always tasty & fresh. Definitely my go-to & a place my bf & I frequent Sunday mornings for a guaranteed good breakfast and several laughs thanks to the waitresses. The staff brazenly ignored us. Even though the cashier saw us enter, she did not offer for us to be put on the wait list & instead put someone else on the list who came after us. She knew there was a wait list; we did not. I spoke up & she corrected it, with no apology. Staff members seated 4 other parties before us, even though they came after us-One party came in after were waiting 30 minutes & they got seated right away! We were vacationing at the Esplendor Resort at Rio Rico and wanted something besides resort food. We looked up Nickel's Diner and read the reviews. We decided to give it a shot, and we were not disappointed. The service was "meh" but the food more than made up for it. The 3 egg omelette was delicious, and whatever seasonings are on their home fries was so satisfying. We decided to try a cinnamon roll also, which looked dry, but wasn't. It was all so very good. We ended our meal with milkshakes to go! What a pleasant experience this was! If we vacay out here again, we'll mos def be back! read more

After a wrong turn at Nogales where Jack n the Box shows up as the number one culinary destination, you will be very happy you drove up the road to Nickel's. The staff is super sweet and the food was A1. Great portions and high quality fresh orange juice. A great way to fuel up for you trip up or down the highway.
