Our waiter, Jesus, was awesome - friendly, attentive, and really helpful with the menu. We ordered the quesabirrias and... wow. They do them a little differently - kind of like a layered quesadilla folded taco-style - and the flavor was seriously on point. Paired it with their micheladas, which were just as good. They've got a huge menu with plenty of options, but honestly, I'd go back just for that combo again. Only regret is I ate it too fast to get a picture . Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Most of the menu items are Tex-Mex but there are also burgers, ribs and wings. There were only two vegetarian options: a veggie burrito and fried cauliflower "wings". I was curious about the cauliflower "wings" so I ordered that. I was expecting the cauliflower to be fried or look like wings. However, the cauliflower was just baked and barely cooked. It was served with dipping options, celery and carrots. I ate the cauliflower but I was disappointed in the dish. I could easily have made this at home. The agua fresca jamaica drink made from hibiscus flowers was good.

I went by for an early lunch and got the Buro supreme, queso birria maiz, and a taco suprem. The queso Birria was delicious just the way I like it. However it did not come with consome, just salsa. The burro suprem was a little on the small side and had ingredients I was not used to but they meshed well and the flavor was good. Not bomb, but good. Same with the taco suprem. The ingredients tasted fresh and didn't have a fatty greasy taste, almost like a healthy Mexican food. I wish I was hungrier because I wanted to try their carne asada nachos. I will definitely come back the next time I return to Nogales.

Their aguas frescas were the highlight for me so fresh and flavorful. I ordered the watermelon with extra ice and it genuinely tasted like it had just been made. Absolutely delicious. For food, we kept it simple and ordered variations of their carne asada tacos. We tried the caramelo (with cheese), a mixed one with tripe and carne asada, and the standard carne asada tacos. They were decent, but the carne asada itself didn't quite have that grilled flavor we were expecting; it tasted more like it was cooked on a pan. Not bad by any means, just different from what we had hoped for. They do have a large menu with plenty of other options such as tortas, hot dogs, and more, so there's definitely something for everyone. We didn't get a chance to try anything beyond the tacos this time, so we may need to come back and explore more.

I highly, highly recommend the adobada. The barbacoa and carne asada were also very good. Feeling spicy and adventurous? Try the chicharrones! I normally do like lengua, but theirs wasn't my favorite. At 16.50 pesos per taco (~$1) though, you can try them all. The corn tortillas are homemade and absolutely amazing. You can watch the ladies shape and cook fresh tortillas while you dine. The atmosphere is like a cafe and was always packed when we went. Service is super friendly. You can pay in pesos or dollars. It's a sleepy place these days and yet, for me, there is an indescribable charm. Although their website lists an East Patagonia Highway address, the restaurant is at 29 North Morley Avenue. It practically hugs the border crossing into Mexico. Yes, really close. You can't miss The Higos Coffee And Chilorios because the windows are crammed with a list and photos of the food it serves. It's a less than subtle hint saying, please eat here! You should. I was the only person in the restaurant. That's unfortunate because the huevos rancheros, coffee, and chips were all very good and simply satisfying. If they had given me a megaphone, I could have been tempted to stand outside and testify. It's worth the hour drive from Tucson and I'll be back.

There's a gorgeous fountain in the center and a mix of seating areas - some more loungy if you're just having drinks, others perfect for coffee or a full breakfast. There's even an upper level with a bar-style balcony, which is where we sat, and it was such a great view. They are dog-friendly in the outdoor areas (I had mine in a stroller), and the staff could not have been more accommodating - they even helped me carry her up the stairs. Service overall was amazing. We had multiple servers checking on us, which just shows how well staffed and attentive they are, especially since it was pretty busy with the buffet crowd. We heard their buffet is really good, but we weren't quite that hungry, so we ordered off the menu. I got the huevos rancheros, and I'm not kidding - the beans alone made the whole trip worth it. I don't know what they're doing back there, but they need to keep doing it. The eggs and red sauce were also so good. My girlfriend got the chiles rellenos, and just watching her cut into them with that perfect cheese pull told me everything I needed to know - she confirmed they were delicious. The decor is beautiful and full of Mexican culture, the space feels really inviting, and overall it was just such a great experience. If you're in Nogales and want something nice without going too far into the city, this is literally right across the border and absolutely worth it.

They're about half the size as a regular empanada so you know what that means half the calories. Lol they come in pineapple pumpkin and apple. Each flavor was very tasty. The thing I like about empanadas is that they're not too sweet and these were just like that. I especially like the apple filling. It had a little bit of what seems to be cinnamon and it was again not too sweet, but perfectly sweet. Of course, and why am I the thing that makes an empanada great is also the crust. It was perfectly crispy on the outside. He's empanadas are the superstars! Another reason I love this place is because they're training people who have disabilities for employment. I had Chile Riano's with beans and rice. Everything tasted like the Mexican food that I love in Tucson. The portions are pretty large for the Rihanna's and then the sides were not overwhelming just right. I got to chill Reynolds and I ended up taking one home. I definitely recommend you giving this place to try especially because of what they do for the community. The prices were very inexpensive as well. If you're looking for a fun day trip and then you want a good meal this is a great place to stop while supporting the community.
