I wish I had read these reviews before hiring out Jesse and his crew. We have a backyard where a portion of it gets real "swampy" and we wanted to have a barrier system put in to help drain away the excess water; and, at the same time, have a new lawn put in. First, they came out a day later than they had told us. Then, there was the language difficulty as the actual workers spoke Spanish but no English. (By the way, we never saw Jesse come out to supervise or check their work). We were told the barrier would would go around the lawn, but they only dug out one side. Then, the sod was laid in with very little preparation for the soil and that is evident now as some brown patches have appeared where the soil was quite hard before. The results was absolutely nothing improved - the yard is still getting swampy and when I said something to Jesse, all of a sudden his English wasn't so good! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. THEY DON'T DO WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL DO AND THE END RESULT IS NOT ANY BETTER THAN BEFORE!! read more

I have never been more dissatisfied. Jesus came out three times. Once to give a bit. The second time for a 100 dollar deposit and then a week later after several calls he finally did the work on my sprinkler system on a Saturday afternoon. A week later ever part he put in is faulty and I spent the day repairing everything myself. What a waste of time and money. Never again read more

They are dishonest and incompetent to boot. After saying they would show up to install sod, we were obliged to call them numerous times to get them to show up. Then they asked to be paid even though the work was not completed. When they finally returned to complete the work, we made an error and overpaid them and they have failed to refund the overpayment. Finally, we discovered they damaged wires for the garden lighting during the installation and they have failed to reimburse us for that damage. They should not be in business. read more

I sure wish we had not contracted with Nice Yard. They were prompt, but that is the only positive thing I can say. He bumped up the original quote last minute by $500.00. We were having stairs installed down the side of the house, using concrete pavers. When they were done, we noticed immediately that the side barriers seemed inadequate. When we paid, we gave him a letter outlining our concern. We were told if it became a problem to just contact them and they would come back. The next day, after a more careful inspection, we noticed the stairs are such different heights, creating a safety hazard. We tried calling without any response. Do not hire this company. They are the most dishonest, unprofessional group that I have ever encountered. Jesse, the owner, came out to give me an estimate on a small landscaping project, and told me that his office would call the following day to schedule the work. They never called back. When I called the office, Maria told me that Jesse would call me back immediately. He did not. This pattern continued for a few days with Maria giving every excuse under the sun for not contacting me. I even said to her, "look, if my project is too small, or you're too busy just tell me so that I can hire someone else". I contacted them one last time to let them know that I was going to leave this review, and Maria was still making excuses. They are disreputable and incredibly disrespectful. I hired them last year and a couple of years ago. They did a great job. But right now??? They are not returning calls. It's weird - I think it's the time of year they are super busy. They are the lowest bid by far so I'll probably go with them anyway. Just maybe at a later date. read more

We used Jesse and Nice Yard for a couple of concrete projects in the last 2 years. The first concrete project went well and we had no problems with the workers or with Jesse. The second concrete project was very different. We had a group of workers on our property for several days in which they had a hard time understanding instructions due to the language barrier. The workers used our tools (wheel barrel) without asking for permission and they were loud and disruptive to anyone who was home. The workers decided it was ok to have their lunch using our picnic table and one worker put his dirty boots on the top of our BBQ. After the initial work was done we were hesitant to allow them on our property again but they returned to do the finish work and walked all over the top of the concrete leaving shoe prints that eventually cleared 9 months later when the concrete finally cured. Jesse credited us $100 for his workers lack of professionalism. Never again...just horrible. read more

Update. They returned my $200. After numerous phone calls, writing this review and calling the BBB, then giving up and calling it a loss, We ended up doing the work ourselves. Maria called and offered to send someone out. I told her I just wanted my money back. Maria came by and handed me $200 cash. She of course apologized profusely and said "This is not how we do business. So sorry." She said something which I think is true.."We can not get good help. They do not show up, we train them and they leave. We never know when they are going to come or not." I have found the same issue trying to hire landscapers on my own. I still would not hire them again and would have read the reviews first but kudos to Maria for returning my money. read more

They did yard work for me for one whole year. They also put down pavers and a few years later I had to hire another company to repair their work. I would pay by check and four times they said they didn't receive it. "Maybe Jesse had it," they would say. Then they'd bill me again! So Jesse didn't have my check after all. Ugh! I fired them. First of all let me say that the actual concrete work was great. It looks very nice. I recommend this company to do concrete work. Now if your concrete works involves moving anything or detaching something from the existing concrete then I advise you to do that yourself or have someone else do it, not these folks. My job entailed removing and replacing the concrete under the supports for the aluminum roof. Instead of removing the screws/anchors from the concrete they broke the concrete away from the supports with a sledge and ending up bending the brackets. Jessie(the boss) was like "oh well they are just a little bent" and they never fixed them even after I called them back. Also give them wide berth around the work area as they will knock over stuff and then just leave it. They will also leave trash(soda bottles, etc)and some construction debris in the area even after you call them back to clean-up. The secondary problem is communications. Jess(the boss) will smile and nod while you tell him what you want but then really doesn't understand. Case in point is that they were at first going to leave the posts for the porch attached to the concrete and just remove and replace the concrete around them. This after I explained numerous times that the concrete had sunk two inches and that is why we need to replace it.. Also there were never any drawings made showing what and where so you will want to be there during the start of the project as the worker arrive and have only a vague idea of what they are supposed to do. The price was reasonable and in line with other contractors but this company could do the work on my timeline and the others could not. Bottom line for concrete work they do a nice job on the concrete but have them do just the concrete - don't let them touch anything else and move everything you don't want damaged or trampled far away from the work area and expect communications issues with Jesse, the crew and the home office. And as others have pointed out - Do Not pay them until you are satisfied with the work. read more

While the work was generally good for the retaining wall and pavers and excellent for the detached porch, there were a few issues with having them understand what I required and they seemed to ignore my requests for better drainage saying they knew better and ensuring they were doing what was agreed to. A key issue is how they have failed to respond when something was done wrong (i.e. gutter install) and I am asking them to make it right. The front office answers and says they will call him right away but no response. This is not acceptable. Similar to what others have said, make sure you hold off on paying them until the job is completely done to your satisfaction because otherwise it won't get done or will get done wrong and they won't show up again. read more
