This was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had while using a rental car. When I signed my rental contract, I was told that I had unlimited miles. Well, a week later when I took the rental back, they told me that they had to put me on a restricted mileage program. The woman's exact words were, "Well, once you exceed 100 miles a day, that's not considered normal wear and tear, that's considered ABUSE of the vehicle." So, for the next week of my rental, I was restricted to driving 100 miles per day, and if I exceeded that they would charge me $0.35 per mile. Now, the other major annoyance about this process, is that once you are put on a restricted mileage program, you can only rent the vehicle for one week at a time, and I needed my vehicle for two weeks. So, technically, they don't offer unlimited mileage. The manager is also one of the most unpleasant, rude, and everything the OPPOSITE of good customer service. She talks down to you, and I feel sorry for her employees. This is a person who should not be in a customer service environment. Every interaction I have had with her (I have had three in-person encounters) has been unpleasant. I was told when I rented the vehicle that if you use the EZ-PASS, they will bill you $5.99 (supposedly only on the days you use it), plus the toll fees. I was billed $5.99 for the EZ-Pass EVERY DAY that I had the car, and I only used it once. The second week that I rented the vehicle, I was driving in. Baltimore, and unfortunately hit a very large pothole. Ordinarily, I would go around it, but I was on a heavily traveled road, and it was either-hit the pothole, or hit one of the cars beside me. The pothole caused a minimal amount of damage, and the vehicle was certainly driveable. Because of my "abuse" of the vehicle regarding mileage, and my unfortunate encounter with a pothole, Miss Personality informed me that "They could not release another vehicle to me unless risk management allows them to", and that could potentially be HOURS. Miss Personality failed to tell me this when I called to inform them of my "accident", so, there was a possibility that I could have been stranded at BWI, with no ride back to my apartment in Cockeysville. The reason I had traveled so many miles, (which, only the first week averaged slightly over 100 miles per day) is because my ex husband and I share custody of our autistic child, and he lives nearly 60 miles away, in Cecil County. So I do a lot of driving, but rarely do I travel more than 100 miles per day. Overall, I would never recommend this car rental company. The only reason I even gave one star, is because they have an employee named Douglas, who is an exceptional, friendly employee. I wish him nothing but the best. read more

I made a reservation. Got there and my car was no longer available. I was being helped by a young (maybe African American girl). None of the workers had face masks. Anyways, Pam Jackson(older lady that's the area manager) kept coming and they were whispering stuff about me(I ignored). Anyways I was offered an upgraded car for about 145$ more. I said okay. My original amount was about 350$. Pam then took over (rudely). I have them proof of address, everything they needed. Pam then goes saying your total is $1100(about) and plus 350 deposit. This was all being done rudely. Let's start to say that I'm transgender female. I told Pam that I was told it would only be 145$ more. She yelled at me said "she works for me and I'm telling you the price". I asked her to calm down and relax, you're having a bad day and it's fine but don't let it off on me. I was still going to rent it still and she said to take my business elsewhere. I'm not sure what's she's going through but it's not fair I've been treated this way by both employees. I think she's transphobic and just did not want to rent me a car for that reason. She needs help and needs to be retrained with her "I'm the owner attitude ". I would recommend to start hrt, that helps a lot of women with those mean mood swings. She's total trash for the company. read more

2 is the lowest they will allow you to score them we pick a car up from BWI headed to Ga we stop for gas suddenly we see oil leak call Next they advise us to take carto dealer the dealer says parts wont be in until Tuesday. We have to be back by Monday for work we ask for rental replacement the closest is 3 hours away we were told they will not pay for us to get another rental and we had to pay to fix the rental. They left us totally strended no car and told us to figure it out Joey Sypolt is super nasty rude and ruthless one day he will have to give an account to a higher power with how nasty rude n disrespectful he was to me n my husband. I would NEVER recommend next to anyone. I rented a car that REEKED of cigarette smoke, but decided I would be fine because I only needed it to drive to and from work for three days. Wrong. I returned it a day early because of the migraines I was getting from the smoke smell. My migraine was so bad when I returned it, I could barely function. I incurred a $250 smoking fee for a car that smelled of smoke before I even stepped food into it. I called after my migraine had calmed down only to be told I had to speak to the manager and she would call me the next day. I never received a call. So I called MULTIPLE times and always got the voicemail, never receiving a call back. I called the regional manager today who showed no sympathy, simply saying "we always conduct investigations into smoke fees." He said he would call me back tomorrow and I hope he does but bottom line, this company is just money hungry and doesn't care about their customer service. Will never rent from here again. I wish i could give them 0 stars as that is what they deserve. I rented a vehicle on a Friday and by Sunday the vehicle had to be towed back to them as it had no oil. I had to find a way to pickup the vehicle as they didn't offer a way of returning the vehicle back to me. According to Customer Service the manager Lisa Rivera, stated that i would get a discount for the time the vehicle was down. I spent many hours of my vacation trying to get in contact with Lisa Rivera, but she never bothered to answer the phone or even return the call. Never again. read more

They claimed I needed a hard copy of my insurance cover page showing had at least $300k liability insurance or else I would have to buy their insurance at $16 daily - and that it was in the "terms & conditions I agreed to" when I booked online. STAY AWAY!!!! Worst rental car experience in my life. Took rental and drove 4 hours to Virginia Beach, Va. 15 minutes into my drive I noticed the low tire pressure indicator was on then it started raining so I turn on my windshield wipers and guess what happens the windshield washer smeared the water instead of making it visible for me to drive safely. Called the office and told the rep the issues and said they have a contract with firestone and I could go there to get everything fixed so Im only in town 2 days and I spent half of one of the days at firestone getting the issues fixed which should have been addressed before they release the car to me. But I called back to speak to a manager and they said a manger would call me back never got a call so I called again no one answered. Called the very next day to let them know the problem and they said the manager would call back you can already guess no one called back, called the next day same thing a manager will call u back shortly and once again no call, 3rd day same thing a manager will call u back and no call. I wasn't able to just switch the car for a different one because there wasn't a location where I was at the rep gave me the option to switch the car out at their location 3 hours away. This company sucks and doesn't care about customer safety managers don't care about issues since they can't call back when it's been 3 days. Go to other companies where they treat you with respect and value their service NEXTCAR has the perfect name because u should really skip them and get the next car from another company. read more

My first time experience was horrible. The lady at the reception was very rude and disrespectful. She act as she is forced to work. Would not explain anything and when you ask a question, she rudely answers you. My first time I rented out from them, according to their contract they wrote out the time of pick-up in a way that you can't see . I was there after 11pm the contract said 22:49. I returned the car at 11:55pm the following day and I was charged $111 plus additional two hours late fee to bring my total charge to $188 for a day rental of hyundai Santa fe. I called the manager, she wouldn't listen but told me "Sir there is nothing that I can do we have to follow what is written" Worst customer service, total rip off. I will never recommend anyone here. I was looking into renting from NextCar for the first time out of BWI, got signed up for their VIP membership but after reading overwhelming number of negative reviews and the VOLUMINOUS rental requirements (must show a refueling receipt within 10 miles of BWI???) it seems to me that All persons thinking about renting should heed the maxim, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!" This company has provided me with the worse experience that I have IN MY LIFETIME.  I was out of the country when I was contacted by my family that my uncle had passed away. I quickly made arrangements to make it D.C. from Jamaica.  Any basic flight search engine (all that I seen) pulls up all major airports in the D.C area as a default. I had to book to one ways to complete my trip because D.C was not my home destination and it was cheaper. So I booked a flight into Baltimore and and I flight out of Reagan.  Any established rental car place has a one way drop off policy. NextCar only has one airport location and another 30 miles from Reagan. I had my wife call during her work hours to make see check out NextCar's due to the fact that I was at a funeral and could not be on the phone. She was told that there was a drop off policy, which I later request in writing. I didn't want to take too much of my wife's time while she was at work, so I called the BWI NextCar to let them know I need to drop of the car at the location closest to Reagan so I didn't have to travel 90 miles from funeral location and have to taxi another 45 miles to get Reagan when I should be able to take this time with my family.  The representative at BWI disrespectfully told me that my wife didn't know what she was talking about and that my only option was to make the long drive. I was also told by the rep that cars are privately owned and can not be left at another location. I called my wife to inform that the NextCar company is far behind their competitors and I needed to make the long drive to in order to the car returned. My wife really wanted to fix the issue to allow me to be with my family. She called corporate the next time around and called me right back on 3-way once she got a hold of another rep. I listened in as the rep explained that there is indeed $75 drop off policy and I would be able to drop off the car closer to Reagan to save me time. The rep also told us that she would put a note in my file that stating that I am in family emergency and everything will be handled. I was originally happy with the accommodations they made to help me. My cousins offered to follow me in separate car to the Suitland branch (closer to Reagan) so they could take me to the airport. They both flew across country to be at the funeral and wanted to drop me off to spend sometime with me.  When we get to the Suitland location the was completed gated and chained off. The representative at corporate failed to mention that this location closes at 6pm. I called the service center again and was greeted by another rude rep. That only could state the obvious "it's closed" and that nothing could be done. Once I gave her my entire story she put me on hold twice to speak with her manager. Instead of putting me on the phone with her manager she transferred me over the BWI so they could deal with it.  The manager at BWI let me know that nothing was ever noted as an emergency from corporate. He also let me know that there is an indeed drop off policy of $75 and that it should have never been an issue. He was pretty astonished that I was never notified of the early 6pm (on a Thursday) closing time of the Suitland branch.  The whole ordeal left me with no other option other than to drive back to Baltimore and all the way back to Reagan to catch me flight. The part that really bothered me is that my cousins wasted 2.5 hours being away from our family for no reason, at point were my family needed to be together.  The last agent wasn't rude and did a decent job of breaking my options to me. He told me he will get to the bottom of this but I doubt I will ever hear back. The bottom line is that there are people at NextCar that don't know their own policies and do not have the knowledge to effectively run their business. They are cheapest option for a reason. After what I paid for the car and wasted in gas, I can say that you stand a good chance to not get your monies worth.  P.S. There is no yelp available for BWI location. Only thing to note was that with a debit card we had to have $150.00 tied up on our card as a hold and it will be returned in 3-5 days, I believe it was. But great experience. read more

I used NextCar for a short trip a couple weeks ago because they had the lowest rate in DTS (Government travel system). I read reviews and was a little nervous heading into it, but was pleasantly surprised. The agent who checked me in was efficient and friendly. She understood that as a Government employee, I had insurance through my credit card and didn't try to force me into adding coverage. She did explain that a deposit would be placed on my card as others have complained about, but I never saw the charge on my statement and the price I was quoted is what I ended up paying. When I got to the garage to pickup my car, there wasn't anyone at the booth. He arrived within a minute, though, as he brought a car around, and drove me to my car as it was at the very end of the lot. He then walked around the car with me, pointing out scuffs/scratches. He was very friendly. I also had no issues with returning the car. The car itself was fine. Nothing to write home about, but I had no issues. I wasn't blown away by them, but they were perfectly fine for a quick two day trip. read more

Pam was very ruled to me on the phone, when I said "sorry to cut you off but their is no way" She said "But you did cut me off and I am still talking". She then proceed to tell me that is how I left the car. I flew in to BWI on with my niece(7) and son(11) to drop my niece off home. Informed her that I do not smoke and no one has been in the car. It barely was used the short weekend I was there. When I arrived to the airport the man who received the car informed me I was good to go. I ask if your card was charged for something you know you did not do what would she do. Rather then showing customer service to explain how I could deal with the situation or even showing courtesy to double check she told me she had more important things to do and I was making this personal. If you rent from these guys consistently they will bend over backwards to make sure your trip is always smooth and everything that you need is taken care of. I reserved a minivan in San Juan, took the shuttle from the airport - and was told that they had no minivans available. What is the meaning of making a reservation in this case? Maybe so that they would contact me in case the car is not available for pick up? But no, no one contacted me either. Worst car rental experience of my life. Had a flat tire they told us we were on our own since we hadn't taken additional insurance. Called AAA who came out and attempted to change the tire. One of the lug nuts would not come off. Called Next Car who said we had to tow the car back over 50 miles. Even though this was a car defect we had the car towed. I went into the office to find someone to talk to and was sent back outside where I found someone talking to my tow truck driver. I asked what was happening and the Next Car person continued talking to the driver. Long story short I was ignored completely and the person started walking away. I followed after him and then saw my driver driving away. Next Car told me he was towing the car to another location without my permission. The Next Car person completely treated me with disrespect. After returning home I contacted the customer care at Next Car and soon learned that being rude and unhelpful is an apparent company policy. They refused to give me the name or address of someone in the corporate office and only referred me to people in their office. Worst experience ever. read more

This was my introduction to NextCar. Needless to say, I was skeptical but was pleasantly surprised. Service was efficient (had to wait on two other customers) and cordial. As with most agencies, I elected to upgrade to a full-size now that they have much smaller vehicles. Check in was a breeze and took maybe 7-10 minutes. My rental was a new model Chevy Cruze with leather seats. The car was clean and everything operated as expected. Check-out took a bit longer as I had to wait for the one guy to finish up with another customer. Once he arrived at my vehicle, he quickly got the vehicle the stats, gave me a ticket, and I was on my way to the service desk. The person at the desk was busy with another customer but took a moment to offer to send me a receipt via email. That worked for me and I was on my way to the bus to take me to the terminal. My receipt was received and it was correct, with no funny additional charges. As I said, I was pleasantly surprised and totally satisfied with the service received from NextCar. I will definitely use them again and can only hope their other locations are comparable. read more

This was my first time using NextCar Rental. I found them on the BWI site and their prices were competitive. I received a cute little car which I nicknamed LadyBug because of how beautifully red it was. The car was very clean except it did have a funny smell to it. Customer service did not WOW me but they were nice and friendly. A little too comfortable for my taste but pleasant enough. The rental and return were fine. Those attendants were straight and to the point but that is fine too. I did have to ask a lot of questions, but I did not have a bad experience at all. If they tweak their customer service a bit, I think they can give the other companies a run for their money. read more

Not a happy customer. So, I'm already down because of car trouble, but still have to work. (of course) Not new to renting I go online and find an extremely good price from Next Car for 4 days. They even offered a small discount if I paid immediately online. Great! Until the next morning...As usual, I grab my insurance card, driver's license and CC before being dropped off...get to the counter and no one is there. (sidenote: we use the airport for the hours of operation to be able to get to work on time, other facilities open too late) It didn't take long for a couple guys to walk in and start service. At that point I was told my insurance company had to be called because my card didn't say if I had full coverage or not. (side eye) Anyhoo, ok cool call...waiting. Only to find out because our deductible was over $500 we would only be allowed to rent if we purchased their insurance! Bumper to bumper was $39.99 a day (which would have totaled more than we were paying for the rental itself) and the second option I zoned out because now I'm pissed. 1. Why am I finding this out at the counter (never happened before at any of their competitors), 2. I got dropped off, 3. I'm going to be late to work and 4. I already paid online! I was told they couldn't refund my card because I prepaid. (A whole other story) Really Next Car? Completely and thoroughly dissatisfied. With all the other choices out there, I will NEVER use them again! And I suggest you don't either! read more

Worst experience of renting car. No business ethics at all. I reserved a car online in the nextcar website for 14th Mar.'19 to 17th Mar'19 in Orlando MCO Airport. I called the number an spoke to a lady on 13th Mar. to make sure the confirmation holds. She said my confirmation number has changed but I have a valid confirmation. I reach Orlando on time and could not find a shuttle to pick up the car. It was late at night with my family (including small kids). I called the same number and a person said that they were overbooked and had no cars. I could not believe what he was saying. How can they give away a car with confirmation? The guy sounded very cold and unapologetic. Thankfully I did not realize that there are a lot of genuine car rental agencies in MCO arrival terminal that you can just walk to without reservation. It took me just 15 mins. to get a car at a lesser price and did not have to take a shuttle to pick up the car. read more

I just had THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER with this company. I was having car issues on sunday and of course the only location to pickup a car on a Sunday around 6:30 pm is the airport. I have a friends sister drop me off after rescuing me from the side of the highway and find out that my typical choice for rentals doesn't take visa debit cards unless you have a return flight booked (I am local...), so I turned to this company optimistic that these companies all work the same. The agent explains they need to put a $500 hold on my card plus the charge for the week for a total of $891. I know I am getting price gouged, but I have to have wheels. So I get a hyundai accent, with a week contract thinking I am going to get my ride fixed, but after finding out the cost of repairs I decided to just buy a new car the next day-Monday. After getting my new car I head to BWI to return the Accent, at this point its around 11:30 at night and the agent checks the car then asks me to wait while she starts to handle a problem customer. Finally at 12:05ish she prints a receipt, says thank you and heads out the door assisting another client. On Wednesday the hold amount my account CLEARS so naturally I am flipping out...but I calmly call their 800 number where I am told that a credit for 719 is being issued...but I am still trying to understand 172 for a day and half! So now its friday morning, no credit has hit my account so I get "Pam" on the line at the BWI location, I begin to explain calmly what I am calling about and she IMMEDIATELY becomes sarcastic and patronizing. First she tells me that I didn't bring the car back until Tuesday night, then tells me that I kept the rental for longer then a day so it incurred those charges, then tells me that when you use a debit card it automatically withdraws completely. So right off the bat I realize I am speaking with someone who has no clue what they are talking about. I have never felt so ripped off and abused by a company in my life. $172 for one day in a hyundai accent. Nextcar should be ashamed. read more

There are plenty of places to pick from when flying into Baltimore, MD. My first interaction with NextCar was amazing and that is why when I fly into Baltimore they are the only company I will rent from. I have dealt with them twice now and each time they have been very helpful and respectful to my time. Every time I have been greeted with a smile and an agent ready to help. I read the reviews on this company before going with them and the bad reviews I am glad I did not listen. This is a company that still remembers what customer service is. I always rent off-airport when I come to FL for my annual family vacation. This was a horrid experience. After waiting 15 minutes for a shuttle to get us from FLL, I started calling to inquire about the status. Nobody picked up on any of the 6 calls made. Waited some more, and another gentlemen got through to the storefront. They said they wouldn't pick us up at the designated spot. Instead they told us to walk across the street to the Southwest terminal and they'd be coming shortly in a Toyota Corolla. Got there and waited some more, called again, got through, waited 19 minutes on hold while they "tried to locate my res." Called on another phone while on hold and was told they'd be coming in a Dodge Caravan. Clearly something shady was going on. No car ever came so I took an Uber straight to them...arrived at a locked door with no human in sight. Lights, TV, and computer were all on...I knocked and knocked bc at this point I'd checked other rentals and no cars were available. Nobody showed up. Some sort of scammers. I had a very bad experience. When I rented the car at the Orlando, FL office I was asked if I wanted to add the tolls coverage, I said Yes. Well, apparently they didn't add it and now my credit card has been charged for $154 "tolls violation" I tried to flight it but no one is helping because the tolls option is not "showing on my contract". Are you kidding me??? Horrible customer service. Please read every piece of your contract before signing anything. read more

Recently rented a car in Maryland for a rate of $103.00 for a two day rental. I returned the rental with half a tank of gas because I was rushing to make my flight and traffic was so bad. When I returned it there was no one in the booth to check my car in so I went inside and spoke with the manager directly and told her there was no one out there but I returned my car with a half a tank of gas because I am in a hurry and I have to run. She said the fill up fee is $4.90 per gallon plus an additional $5. She said she will email the check out receipt. When I received receipt I noticed she charged me for much more than half a tank of gas. I contacted them and told them I was charged unfairly and they just told me that the manager denies it was half a tank. I'm kicking myself for not making sure I was present during the checkout but I was in such a hurry I had no choice. $103 turned into $173. Moral of the story is this branch (BWI airport) will deceive you. Make sure you double and triple check, maybe take pictures. Poor customer service and disappointing experience. read more

Beware of this car company! Stay away and rent from another car rental agency. I rented a car from Nextcar's Orlando office in June, 2018. They rented me a car with a slow leak in one of the tires. I replaced and paid for a new H rated top of the line tire out of my own pocket when it finally deflated on me in Naples because they had no office in that city. I did them a big favor by doing that. I missed appts. and spend the good part of a day dealing with this defective tire.They would not reimburse me for the $100+ expense I incurred and blamed me for the flat even though the "check tire pressure" dashboard light came on during the initial inspection in front of the Nextcar staffmember. When I asked to be reimbursed, the staff, including the office manager, was very rude to me and tried to make me out to feel like the guilty party. They demonstrated very poor customer relations with their very argumentative, non friendly, combative style. I recommend they correct the english language challenged "customer relations" staff on site as well. I will never use this company again nor will I ever recommend it. Beware. read more

I made a reservation for a different pickup location, by mistake, and the were able to change the reservation AND honor the lower rate I got from the other location. I recieved the worst customer service by the manager on staff today, I believe her name was Pam. I called concerning a charge on my credit card for toll. Trying to explain to this lady that I wasn't even on that road at that time the toll was supposed to have happened, it was a south bound exit which wasn't even my direction of travel that day. She was rude, very disrespectful, cut me off everytime I tried to say something... basically told me I was lying when I said I was traveling at a certain time when I had proof where I was by my Ezpass documentation and she said she didn't care what I had, if I don't have a complaint about a mechanical issue or a personel issue she really doesn't have time for this. Well, I will tell you I don't have time for a company that doesn't have time for their customers. Being we are military and belong to a large community the utilizes BWI, I will be sure to let as many people as I know to stay away from NextCar Rental until they get rid of this lady at least. I don't even want to give them one star for this rating! This rental experience was the worst that I have ever had, and I am still scarred by it. I rented a vehicle at the Next Car in Baltimore Washington International airport in March of 2018 for one of my staff to use to attend a conference in Milwaukee. Right off the bat, the manager insisted on verifying our insurance even though the credit card that I use also insures us which they don't bother to tell you. Upon return of the vehicle, my staff person was told that we were being charged an additional $200 smoke fee. The problem is, we do not smoke and were never presented with proof of said smoke in the vehicle. We went through several back and forth conversations with customer care and management, and even complained to the Better Business Bureau, but received no relief. Additionally, we were charged for tolls that were actually paid in cash, and we have receipts. The staff at the BWI facility was rude and just inappropriate, and even threatened to call the police on my staff person when he contested the fees. When I spoke with the regional manager he admitted that the staff person could have "handled it better". Yet, no one apologized, and I found them to be absolutely awful when it came to customer service. This has made me reluctant to even rent vehicles from other car rental companies. I hope that enough people who have experienced this type of behavior from Next Car will speak up. And, I can't even say you get what you pay for because all told the rental ended up being about 700.00 for six days. read more
