I order the chicken gizzards and fried green tomatoes both were very good. The gizzards were fried perfectly w/ a seasoned flour batter, the tomatoes were fried w/meal base coating. They were also sliced perfectly. A Cajun sauce would have been perfect. The half order was perfect for a snack. I also had a sweet tea w/homemade lemonade! Great Place to stop if you are on the road and need a quick bite, rest room and gas before getting back on the road

The fried chicken is always hot and fresh. It smells delicious and tastes even better. I'd steer clear of the gizzards though unless you don't mind them being tough and hard to chew. The dining room area always seems to be in disarray and in need of a good cleaning. The hungry never ending stream of customers don't seem to mind though since most are taking their food as carry out anyway. read more

The chicken wasn't as good as it was before. I drove all the way from Alabama what a waste! There was no seasoning on the chicken at all. That was my last $20 donation they will ever get from me. I'm not against gas station fried chicken. In fact one of my favorite places to get fried chicken and a honey biscuit, was at this gas station near montevallo, AL. But this place needs to clean out their grease or see about their ventilation. When you walk into the food mart it's super hot, hot enough to melt the candy bars and it smells gross. The chicken itself looks amazing. But all I could think was that somewhere down the line, they're going to start a grease fire. You can smell the chicken when you drive up. And it must be popular because there was a line. Unfortunately the heat and smell of old grease made me loose my appetite. read more

The chicken here is great...which is good, because it is often all they have. They have a tendency to run out of chicken, too. The soda machines do not work. Sometimes you have to pay with a debit/credit card. Perhaps, because of their inability to fulfill an order listed on the menu, they have inconsistent pricing. The same order will be $3 once and $5 the next time. This is not a negative. I have never been overcharged. If you are stuck in West Point for some awful reason, this place has good chicken. They would of received 5 stars but they were out of the main reasons we stopped by. They hot sauce and chicken breast. I personally eat dark meat but my company wasn't to happy to find out they were out. This is the second time it's been this way. They should really dust in here because the amount of dust made my allergies flare up just by walking in.. it looks very unsanitary in here there are flys flying around the food.. The last two times I have been to Newts they have ignored me or been completely rude. Today they gladly took my money, but refused to serve me. I had called in an order of okra, and then I when I got there 10 minutes later it was not ready. I then watched them serve 7 people freshly out of the fryer chicken. As the line piled up the man manning the frier actually said "let's get these people first". If they didn't want to serve me, they just need to be blunt and put up a sign that says "No Whites". Would be a 5 if it weren't in a gas station. Also the fried green tomatoes are not crunchy at all, this is a finger food that you have to eat with a fork because they are sliced too thick and very greasy. The fried okra is great though. read more
