These are quality gentlemen. At one point, when my battery repeatedly failed to work, one of the mechanics personally drove me to my house and tested/jumped the battery in my driveway, and then drove my car to the station and replaced it. I heard the dreaded rhythmic thud, thud, thud as I drove down Center St. in Newton. I realized the shell station was very close so pulled right in. I looked at the suspect tire and could see a fairly large piece of metal was stuck in the tire. The service team kindly and quickly assessed it and we all realized I'd need the spare. They took care of the tire change on the spot, although it was a little tougher than expected, with a wonderfully confident, reassuring, and cheery attitude. I was back on the road in a little more than half an hour. I'm so grateful! I'd bring my car here anytime. They were quick and honest, just what I needed. Thank You!! read more

I usually come here for gas and repairs. The staff here is really nice and for the most part, they do an ok job with repairs. Recently I had a tire replaced here that went flat a feW weeks lateR due to the air valve going bad, leading to me needing to replace both of the tires on that side. In addition, some work they've done in the past has left my car in slight disarray, leading to more repairs I needed to do. I would say this, they're fine for gas and mInor repairs but for major repairs, you are better off going to a bEtter mechanic or yoUr dealer. The worK they do is equal to a good amateur. read more

I just got back from having my front bumper looked at by Marc, who I was recommended to by a colleague of his. It hasn't even been an hour since I left the Shell station but as I work in the hospitality industry, I feel those who go above and beyond what is expected of them to exceed client expectations deserves a Yelp and 5 stars. My state inspection was failed by a different company and I needed my front bumper fixed. Marc went out of his way to help fix the problem explaining what and how he was doing it. Once he fixed that, another employee, Mike, immediately performed the state inspection. They did everything they could without overcharging me and I was expecting to have to wait there for an hour or so but they worked fast! Thanks to them I had a wonderful experience and highly recommend them to anyone as they are kind, intelligent, and treated me like family my first time there. After hearing that there was no other cars waiting, I went to this place within minutes for the State Inspection. I stopped my car in an area so that there would be sufficient room for other cars. Instead of asking why I was there for, the gas pumping employee yelled at me to move my car toward the door. Since I did not want to block the door, I parked where I stopped and went inside. The owner/manager at the shop bluntly responded me to park (Instead of having my car taken inside to the empty garage), on the side of the building. However there was no parking space available except an opening where cars would move. I went back inside and told him that there was no parking spot available. He yelled at me just park in the middle of parked car. As soon as I came back from parking, his mechanic was stepping out to grab the car . (there was No reason for me to move the car to the side of building). I asked the mechanic if he was going to place a seat cover. The shop owner snapped at me, "Seat cover for what?" in angry voice. I replied "to cover the seat".(many places use seat covers when deal with white leather seats, it could be paper) While I was waiting in the small shop, the owner was talking non stop on the phone without a mask and two other employee also did not wear masks. I felt uncomfortable of the hostile attitude and no mask by them, I stepped outside for fresh air but it was raining heavily, i had to go back inside and stood against the wall instead of sitting. When the mechanic informed me of completion, I submitted CC but the owner continued for few more minutes of conversation on the phone Since I only got the receipt, I asked the owner where was my inspection report and he replied, "On the window!". I repeated the question. He yelled, "it's in the car.!" Then the other two guys immediately tried to make up for rudeness of the mad man by simultaneously explaining that the inspection sheet should be in the glove compartment. At that point, I was so agitated by this rude owner to see their good will.( A couple of hours later, I called and left message with the owner that I apologized them for misunderstanding their good will.) The owner of this Shell shop was too conceited to welcome and treat customer courteously. His non stop talking without wearing a mask was concerning to me as well. Filled up my tire with air here the past few months. I've replaced this tire elsewhere, but still continue to have an issue with it running low on air frequently. Nearly every time I've filled my tire at this location I've tipped the staff. This morning I went to fill up again and he informed me that he will no longer be servicing my tire as I haven't fixed it. As I was trying to explain my issue he walked away. I'm floored by the level of unprofessionalism, and highly regret every time I tipped him. read more

I came here this morning for car inspection where I was in and out in a jiffy. I didn't have to drive it into the bay myself. Just parked, gave my registration and keys to the mechanic.. Wah Lah! The staff here is friendly and there are a couple seats inside so you don't have to wait in the cold. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. The best thing of doing this first thing in the AM! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This is the type of place that does what a stereotypical sleazy garage will do: attempt to screw you out of every penny on things you don't need. I stopped into the Shell in Newton Center to have an oil change. I have been here in the past, and haven't had any trouble. I am absolutely disgusted with what happened to me here. I'm incredibly busy, I am a woman, and a young one at that, and I was deliberately taken advantage of because of that. I dropped my car off in the morning for an oil change. The man, an older fellow, looks like he might be the manager (which is especially appalling) asks me what type of oil I would like. Mistakenly, I say "synthetic" without even realizing it. Now, seeing as how I had called ahead of time to check the price, which I was told was $35.99 (or along those lines), and the fact that I drive a 2000 Chevy Cavalier (not an expensive or special car) that is not in the best condition, you would think the man would have double checked to make sure that's what I wanted. Or you would think he would at least inform me that synthetic oil is $65.99 (or along those lines) which is greater than the price he had quoted me on the phone. This man deliberately took advantage of me saying the wrong word. I am disgusted that someone in this company or ANY company at all would knowingly withhold information to make twice the amount of money off a stupid oil change. I had been a customer in the past with no problems to speak of. How I was treated was unacceptable. When I confronted the man about the price he simply laughed (Yes. He laughed at me which is a separate disgusting problem in itself!) and said "that's why I asked you what type of oil!" To which I replied, "I have a 2000 Chevy. Do you really think I needed synthetic oil?" He just shrugged it off as I stared incredulously at the bill. If the man wasn't at fault, and hadn't purposely attempted to get more money from me, he wouldn't have done what he did next, which was take $10 off the total. Well, that would be fine and good, but you told me $35 and that's what I expected to pay. Not $55. I am on a fixed budget. I dress well because it is required in a professional career, but that does not mean I make a lot of money. Because I don't. And I certainly cannot afford for some jerk to see me coming and say "ooh look a pretty girl, she doesn't know anything about cars" and attempt to screw me over. I would understand if the man had asked me "Are you sure?" Or said something along the lines of "that's going to be extra". But he purposely stayed quiet, and did NOT inform me of the price increase, just so he would have a justification to charge me twice the cost. That is dirty business. It was very clear that I did not need the synthetic oil. I was ripped off, and I am not happy about it. No one deserves to be treated that way. And if they're so dishonest for something as simple as an oil change, I can only imagine how much money they'll attempt to screw out of you for something bigger. For your own good. Today I was stressing a slow leak in one of my tires, with a trip to NH this evening. My chiropractor recommended I check out this repair shop/gas station up the street so I hustled over to see if they could help. Not only was the service great from start to finish, but they got me in and out so fast! Both bays were full when I arrived, and I was quoted 45 minutes until they could check out my car. I decided to wait and just a few moments later they took my car in. The tire was fixed, only $20, and I was out in under half an hour. An added bonus... As I watched clients come in and leave, drivers roll up to the full service gas pumps and delivery men drop off packages, I noticed everyone was treated so kindly and with equal respect regardless of gender/race/age; sadly that seems to be rare these days. read more

While off to Watertown, I was driving home through Newton Centre and noticed I needed to get gas. A few days ago, I was running tons of errands and noticed a Gulf down the street (Union Street & Beacon Street), that was over $.50 over what I paid for gas in Brockton. Yes, Brockton has a much different clientele than Newton, but 50 cents in difference for gas is ridiculous, even if the two cities are completely different. The point is, that this gas station is better priced than the other in the center, but still more than other stations in other towns, as Newton is "peppy". The Newton Centre Shell additionally does auto repairs and Mass State Inspections. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful. The coolest thing about this gas station is the actual stations. They have TV's on them that you can watch if you decide to pump your own gas, yet it is full serve (that doesn't make much sense that they added tv's to a full serve station, because besides a very few, who would pump their own gas when someone is going to do it for you?). I guess I'm just one of the few... Good option for gas in Newton Center, skip the Gulf that is way, way overpriced. 4 stars. read more

Newton Centre Shell is my neighborhood gas station, and it is a little gem. The owner and employees all are pleasant, helpful and respectful. Today, I needed an inspection. There were two cars ahead of me, so I left my car there and walked home. Wiithin 45 minutes, I received a call that my car was ready for me. My car is making a funny noise. Because of an extended warranty, I have to get the work done by the dealer, but, nonetheless, the owner gave me his opinion of what's causing the problem. I wish I could have left it there for repair because other neighbors swear by the work of the repair staff. In addition to the workers' competence with gas and cars, the station is a good neighbor: the place is spotless, and there is a pretty, well-tended garden along the street. read more

So I took my 2012 Subaru in because my brakes were squealing, tires were shaking when I drove over 45mph, and I had a broken headlight- about a week later, they returned my car to me- saying they fixed the breaks, headlight, and a few other issues wrong with my car--all for $1,500. I left thinking I was happy to have my car in working condition again but as soon as I drove it out of the lot I could tell the tires weren't exactly right. I took it back a week later saying that my tires were still not driving correctly- the owner agreed to take it for a test drive (not sure why) to see if the tires were ACTUALLY not working right..okay, why not just take my word? So four hours later they call me in- saying they found nothing wrong with the car- but they found a broken wire and charged me another $50. Fast forward to two months later- tires were still shaking on the highway and I decided to spend more money to take it to a different auto shop- where they told me I was driving with a broken suspension- WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. For me being someone who knows very little about cars, I feel like I was taken advantage of at this auto shop. They were kind and tried to help- but definitely avoid this place for big jobs with cars- they missed something obvious and I could have gotten really hurt. read more

The owners of this place are the sweetest people out there. Always honest, professional, on time and extremely welcoming and helpful. They fixed my car several times and I was always more than satisfied. I had been away for a couple of years and returned to the US to find my cars battery dead, tires flat, brakes rusted, etc. they towed my car to the shop and rehabilitated almost the entire thing. I went there again today for a minor issue with my car and they offered me a ride home and back tomorrow to pick up my vehicle. There is a plethora of family owned mechanic shops around, but this one stands out over the rest. Since the days where I had the luxury of taking my car to a family friend's shop, I began to realize that finding a new shop was more difficult than it seemed and my car issues began piling up. I went from one shop to another, and I had a difficult time finding a good small shop that was effective, honest, and focused on their customers. It was just a matter of getting me in, slapping a bill and getting me out. This profession is no different from the rest, we all want great doctors, dentists, and it's been a long time since finding a good mechanic shop that truly cares for you. Since last year, I gave them several difficult tasks, and there were times where things did not go as well as we expected, but with the proper communication, my car issues were resolved. As I get older having a reliable car becomes of utmost importance. It was imperative that I would find a great shop I can rely on. If you are around the Newton area, I insist you to give them a shot. At the very least, start with an inspection sticker! I felt the urge to write this mainly because they have done such great work, and a small thank you in other ways was overdue. I have had other repairs too and found that every effort is made to accommodate our busy schedule and service is always excellent.
