We were on a road trip to MA when the check engine light suddenly came on in our car. The abs break symbol also lite up! Ohhhhh, the panic and paranoia that ensued after! On a Saturday morning, we went looking for a few mechanics which were recommended to us. To our surprise, they were all closed on Saturday, and we were told to come back on Monday. We couldn't wait until Monday, so what did we do? We did a Yelp search, of course! Yelp to the rescue!!! The #1 business to appear after our Yelp search was Tony's Auto Service....they have a 4.8 Star Rating! Come on now, an auto service establishment with such a high rating?!?! The New Yorker in us were very skeptical! But we were in a bind, and time was ticking away, so off to Tony's Auto Service we went....it was only 5 minutes away! Yay! So we get to Tony's, and we're told that they're very busy and they can't look at our car right away, as there were two customers ahead of us. They said to leave the car and to call back in 2 hrs. We very cautiously left the car, and went to walk around town and have breakfast. In exactly 2 hrs, Tony called us and said our car was ready! He said come back and we'll discuss what the problem with the car is. We braced ourselves for what it would cost to repair the car. We also braced ourselves for the possible song and dance about what the problem was. Well....imagine our surprise when Tony told us that the problem is NOT an emergency, and didn't need to be taken care of right away. He told us exactly what was wrong, how much the parts would cost, and how much it would cost to get fixed. He gave us the ok to drive back to NY, and advised us to see our own mechanic whenever we got home. What?!?! As out-of-towners, we're not going to get ripped off?!?! Not only did we NOT get ripped off, Tony said there is NO CHARGE for the diagnosics! Now THAT is definitely 5 Star worthy!! We appreciate Tony's honestly and kindness so much. What a nice surprise. There really are honest mechanics still around! Thanks so much! Needless to say, we highly recommend Tony's Auto Service and recommended it to our local relatives. One of the grumpiest, rudest guys I've ever interacted with in my life. I walked in the office and introduced myself to Tony. And nothing. No "Hi". No "Hello". No "How can I help you?" No nothing. Just a frown and blank stare. Well, OK then. Let's try this another way. Let's just assume this guy works here and knows I'm a potential customer and get to why I'm here. Told him that I wanted my tires rotated on my 2005 Accord and, as a heads-up, that the undercarriage is rusty (as rusty as a 2005 Accord should be, rusty, but surface rust - intact, not falling apart, has passed inspection for years). He starts grumbling about liability and the possibility that he could break the wheels or lug nuts or something and, begrudgingly, agrees to put the car on the lift so he could take a closer look. After taking a quick look, he says "Can't do it. I might break something". Right, despite the fact that I've had the tires rotated two times a year every year for years without incident and this supposedly experienced mechanic can't do it. With this level of risk aversion, not to mention his lack of people skills, I'm surprised he's still in business. And with all these 5 Star reviews, something tells me he's either paying someone to write them or he has the negative reviews removed. Avoid. read more

I bought a Subaru off a young lady who had been having it serviced at Tony's Auto Service. She gave me a pile of receipts of which each visit cost her between $1000-$1100. I have been working on cars or myself for over 30 years. I can easily say most of the work for which she was charged was never done. Some was even totally unnecessary had the Subaru service bulletins been read. Still, I can tell the work wasn't done. Original factory parts in the car for which she was overcharged for new ones. The tip-off was all her $1000 receipts being a couple months apart getting her to return then finding more problems that "needed" to be fixed. Sad that people think someone is doing something good and fixing their car when they are actually getting ripped-off. read more

I came to this place after reading the reviews on Yelp. Boy, were they spot on. I have a 2002 Jetta that has 127k miles on it, and the last thing I want to do is spend thousands of dollars on it on things I "should fix" (like every other mechanic has told me to do). First off, I came to get a synthetic oil change: he charged me 25 dollars less than everyone else has wanted to charge. Second, he was the first mechanic ever to not bombard me with billions of other things I "should fix", and instead agreed with my above point into not dumping money into the car, and only spend money on things that are critical (safety reasons). I think a testament to a business, and a person for that matter, is what happens when things go wrong. I brought in my car for some leaky tires and it turns out the first solution that Tony sought was to change the tires. It turned out to be the wrong idea but instead of fault finding and overcharging, which is what most businesses do, Tony made things right. As I walked in I was braced for an argument but it turns out I was completely wrong and that good people who still exist. I then asked my buddy in the apartment upstairs who told me that he brought his Civic to 6 different places for the same problem, but after he brought it to Tony's *poof* the problem was gone and fixed for good. I feel so lucky to be within walking distance from Tony's garage. He's been my family's (immediate and extended) mechanic for at least the past ten years, and we can't imagine going to anyone else! Last year, I had a broken headlight and I decided to drop it off at a garage around the corner from my office around 8:30am and assumed it would be done by the time I finished my work day. The mechanic told me to bring it back the next morning. I ended up just going to Tony the next morning and thirteen minutes and $15 later, I was out the door! Most recently, I brought my car to the dealership to have some maintenance work done as it is covered by my warranty. While there, I was told that I needed my rear brake pads and rotors replaced, and they quoted me at $530! I immediately called up Tony and he told me $350, so I took it to him first thing the next day and the brakes work like magic! I took it in because it failed the safety inspection.. not only did Tony do a thorough job with the checkup, but he also gave me a new sticker for free after the job was done so I wouldn't have to go back to the shop where I got the safety inspection done. The quote he gave me was unbeatable - I compared it against at least 3 other shops and his prices were the best. His overall approach was also very relaxed and he didn't try to pressure me into getting any unnecessary services done, unlike another repair shop where I went to before visiting Tony who charged me 2x+ and were extremely pushy in their overall approach.. scaring me into believing it was a "serious, life-threatening" issue and that I must get it fixed from them.
