Even though my son didn't complete the program as planned due to his own actions. I have to add…read morethat the discharge process as been amazing with Sean Plummer calling every week to check on us. He has the most amazing personality and the conversation is never boring. It feels like I'm literally talking to a close friend and I'm in a safe place. This has been by far my favorite aftercare process with any residential treatments. Sean is always making sure the family is doing well and if resources are needed, he gladly helps in anyway he can. Because of him. I'm giving Newport 5 stars. We need more Sean Plummer's in this world. Thank you.

Think twice before allowing these folks to care for and treat your child!…read more When we dropped our daughter off, we expected therapy based on compassion, structure, and organization. What we got was anything but. The issues started within hours of dropping her off. She was not happy (of course) and they allowed her to call mom repeatedly, which made the day 1 process 100 times harder than it already was. It seemed that she was allowed to call home (or whoever because she called lots of people) as often as she wanted. As the first week progressed, our daughter had a panic attack and they took her to the hospital instead of simply using their therapeutic tools to calm her down. We got a call saying she was being taken to the hospital with no other communication. Our calls to the facility went unanswered as did our emails to the therapist and or staff members. A week or so later, our daughter got into an altercation with another patient. The call to us was that our daughter was punched by this other person because she was in this person's face yelling. When we asked what was going to happen to this person, we were told.. "Nothing... what do you expect someone to do when they've asked your daughter to get out of her face and she wouldn't." What?? Truth was this person not only punched our daughter, but jumped on her and started choking her as well as punching her chest and neck area. They also failed to mention that when the other residents were leaving the home, this attacker attempted to jump through an outside window and back into my daughters room to continue the attack. As a result of this attack, my daughter had another panic/anxiety attack and was once again taken to the local hospital. The conversations between the facility and us were beyond ridiculous and uncaring. They were blaming my daughter and did not act as if they were in the mental health field. Again, emails to the therapist in charge of the facility were never returned. When we got her from a hospital, we saw the scratches and bruises. She has since been enrolled into a different facility and in the short time there, has made remarkable progress, so again, please do your research before sending your child to residential treatment. I can't speak for all locations, but the Camarillo location is a definite NO for many reasons.

Unfortunately, the ultimate goal for their care is to exhaust your insurance for every excuse they can find. Our child met every goal that was expected of her for PHP care that was necessary. We asked that they lower her level of care to IOP, they refused & told us it was decided by their team. We went to our insurance & insisted that they not authorize any more care at a PHP level. Unbelievably they told us it was decided by their team utilization management & the care was based on the determination of the "Team". Allyson Bell the director of the Westlake location is all about keeping clients there as long as they can to take advantage of the insurance. We reached out to Heather Hagen to file a complaint but she has never reached out to us as every call goes to her voicemail. 1(949)922-0264. Please beware & be your child's advocate.

My child went to newport inpatient Chandler house and it was the worst experience. My child was…read morehaving issues soiling herself and I was told before she went that they would be able to help and that it would most likely happen within the first week she was there and they would tackle it. After I dropped her off, I expressed my concern that I thought it had happened again that day and I was told that they wouldn't be checking as they didn't want to embarrass her. The kids do their own laundry and the adults at the house only provide help with changing and washing sheets (my child doesn't soil herself through multiple layers of clothing), so right away up front I was extremly disappointed, like I had been punched in the gut. They can't help her if they aren't addressing the issues. Nothing was resolved, and the stress of getting insurance authorizations every week, added to the stress of her being out of state for mental health. The plan was for her to be there 6 - 8 weeks and half way in, insurance denied any further stay, so I had to fly out urgently to go pick her up, or be charged $2000 a day if I couldn't get there within the time frame. My child didn't receive the letters or birthday cards sent by her grandparents or great grandma, there were 9 pieces of mail/cards returned to us, only after I questioned them about it after she got home and was missing a birthday card from my mom. We were promised we would only be charged $500, max, paid it, then a month later, got another $500 bill. I really got the impression they didn't care about helping my child, who lived a life of trauma and neglect before being placed in our home at 10 years old. I was desperate for her to get help after other failed attempts and this place took full advantage of us. Not to mention, they wouldn't give me her chart notes after she was discharged so I could have a better understanding of what she's dealing with. Arlene (the director) promised me she would call me and do a walk through of the facility with me, that never happened. They set us up to fly in before the facility my child was staying at was staffed, so I had to drop her off at a different facility she wasn't going to be sleeping at. She was by herself for the first few days. I wouldn't have agreed to that before getting my flight set up for a Saturday. After the flight was set up, I received a call asking if I wanted to come at a later date, on Monday, but I couldn't cause I didn't have time to clear it through work on a Friday night. They stated they had equine therapy but that only involves looking/petting the horses, no riding, and there weren't any horses at the house my child was staying at. They didn't even offer the equine therapy for the first 2 - 3 weeks cause the lady was out on paternity leave. Another disappointment. The whole experience was awful and having to grab a flight last minute ($$$$) to fly to another state to pick up my child after insurance denied her ongoing stay urked me - that was not explained to us prior to her going. They said she would be there for 6 - 8 weeks, so that's what we were expecting. My child doesn't act out like other kids cause she internalizes everything and they didn't catch onto that - they didn't think she needed help, but they were who encouraged me to send her saying they could help. My child also reads the room well and responds accordingly pretty damn well. Says what she thinks people want to hear. I have high suspicion my child was sexually assaulted (i explained this to them) and they didn't even touch that subject - which has been the ongoing elephant in the room for us. At the end of her stay, while packing up, an employee told her that she couldn't pack her hygene products I sent with her (something about plane regulations - and her multiple bags were NOT carry on, they had to be checked). Newport required all NEW products be sent and specific ingredients weren't allowed, so I spent $130 on new shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, sunscreen, toothpaste and other listed items on the packing sheet, and nothing came home with her. Another huge waste of money. Newport failed us on every level. Please don't send your kid there, if i could give zero stars for this review I would. Don't believe the hype in your desperate need for help, cause they don't offer any solutions there, just more added stress.

All of the staff who worked at Periwinkle (one of Newport's houses) when I was there were incredibly kind and supportive. The food was much better than I expected, and Newport will cater to any dietary needs (kosher, vegan, etc.), which I thought was great, and also always offer a vegetarian option. The Periwinkle house is very nice and has a pool that clients can utilize during downtime. I loved my therapists at Periwinkle and the groups were helpful. There are a large variety of groups like music therapy, art therapy, and equine therapy. It was also nice being around all young adult women and only having a few other clients there while I was allowed me to become closer to and more comfortable with them. Having to go to treatment is never ideal, obviously, but if I had to do it again I would choose Newport if I could.

Newport Academy allows a space to achieve a successful recovery, as well as to gain and begin to master coping skills and techniques that allow for their clients to maintain their progress, and to live a healthier lifestyle moving forward. Additional work, such as binder work, allow one to rise up the phases of Newport's program, and feel a sense of accomplishment and have concrete evidence to what they are achieving while being in the program. Each staff member has their own unique personality and story, which makes for a vibrant community. In addition to spending time at the house, clients are often given an opportunity to go on outings, and to explore and learn new activities, that can be later on used as a form of self care. All in all, Newport isn't perfect, but neither are any of the clients who pay to be there. Newport is what you make it to be. If you're truly in a place where you're ready to heal and recover, than Newport can be a great resource to guide you to that point. If you're not at that point, than don't waste everybody's time. A couple of the groups already do enough of that:)
