Newk's is where I gather once or twice a year with almost life-long friends to catch up when I'm in town. Staff is great from the cashier to the servers, food is delicious, and there is always plenty of seating, I love that there are two drink stations (usually no waiting). I totally understand why the salad is called Newk's favorite as it is my favorite - chicken, mixed greens, Bleu cheese, grapes, pecans, artichoke hearts, dried cranberries, and croutons with Sherry vinaigrette dressing. A friend suggested Newk's as takeout for our lunch - wish I had said "No" - we ordered the margerita pizza which was like eating cardboard and a salad which had wilted lettuce. A "turkey-avocado sandwich (mostly bread, little avacado and wilted lettuce). I should have known better as I had tried this place some years back on the recommendation of a friend who likes their salads. My advice is if you want pizza is go to "Hideaway Pizza"; Pizza Hut pies are actually better than the dried out cardboard crust which Newks uses. The only thing worth eating was the "fruit cup" which they dump out of a commercial container. The one saving grace was the chocolate cake which had to come from a bakery - with the other food being so bad, there is no way they could do decent deserts unless they are premade. Obviously I will not be eating at a Newk's again - $45 wasted as most went in the trash. read more

This is an after-church stop for us. Two diners ordered Greek salad today, one with protein, one without. Mine without had so much dressing that a third of my salad was soggy before I could finish it. My main complaint is servers touching the lip edge of a cup or glass or the INSIDE of a serving dish. Two different servers brought salad bowls to the table, holding the bowls with their thumbs! Eewwwhhh! Trainers should be teaching servers NEVER to touch serving dishes in a manner that would transmit pathogens ... as in Food borne contaminants! We cordoned off the 'touched'/contaminated edge with bread sticks & avoided that portion of food but if they do it blatantly, they're unaware of best practices and the entire rim of the bowl may have been handled by the time it leaves the kitchen. read more

And that was an employee asleep in a booth in front of us. TL;DR review: Try the sandwich/soup lunch combo. Awesome. My workplace was going to have to work through lunches, and that usually means ordering food in. Early on, someone had decided Newk's, so I pored over the menu to make my selection, looking for something that might travel well. Soup and sandwich? Yes, thank you. So I decided on the Italian sammy and the Pepperjack Crawfish soup. When it arrived, it sat in the break room for about ten minutes before I could get back there to try it out. When I finally got back there, I had to go after the sandwich first, lest the bread become soggy. The bread was toasted, and to be honest, it must not have been still warm, or maybe it's served at room temperature, but the taste was phenomenal. It was a little spicy from the salami, which is my favorite thing about any deli meat. This sandwich was among the best I've had; I couldn't complain about a single thing. I was wondering how I could top that, then I tried the soup, which was still borderline hot. A little spicy; it could use more heat (for me), but still EVER so flavorful. Good to the bottom of the cup. Newk's might be a chain, but as long as they're able to duplicate my experience for everyone else and emphasize fresh ingredients in produts that taste like they were made by hand at a reasonable price, they're only going to get bigger. We have had a club sandwich come out with very little meat, but spoke with the manager who promptly took it back and fixed it. We love the club sandwich. Royal sandwich. Newk's salad. Soups. Pizza. I am super disappointed in my salmon Caesar salad. The greens were all brown and wilted and gross. I couldn't even eat half of it. Save yourself the time and money and avoid this Newt's. There are a multitude of "upscale" chain restaurants that charge more, but their menu options taste just like the grocery freezer option -- of the same name, same brand (hear what I'm saying TGI Fridays?) Newks serves food that is incredibly fresh and of superior quality. For example, at many of "those" same ole restaurants, a steak sandwich would be a tug o' war between my teeth and tough, stringy steak. My Newk's Steak sandwich was incredibly tender and succulent. Spoiler alert: add tomato! For the record, the horseradish is also very flavorful! In addition to my delicious sandwich, I had a bowl of Corn and Crab Chowder. Wow, I was blown away! My generous bowl of soup was peppery, spicy and slightly sweet. It was "stick to your ribs" delicious. For the record, my wife's Spinach and Feta soup was also superlative (just a tad bit salty). The food is great, I assume you got that from my review. The restaurant's staff, from manager to cashier are amiable, easy going and very accommodating. I could not decide which soup I wanted to order and the manager was at the register with a sample of the Chowder. THAT is the way to up-sell a customer. The staff did not assume that patrons were familiar with how the Newk's machine worked, either. They were intuitive and focused on assuring patrons enjoyed the full experience. We have eaten at our local Newk's quite a few times since they opened. In fact, my wife laughs every time I tell her that on yelp* I am the Duke of Newk's. For us, it is mainly a lunch place. Once they worked through the typical disorganization that goes with opening a new place, their service has been consistently good. Their set-up is that you walk in, check out that day's menu on the wall, order and pay at the front register, then choose your table and wait for the food to be delivered from the kitchen. The wait is never long, and the folks that bring it out are friendly and helpful. The drinks are all self-serve, which suits me just fine. The menu is pretty simple - sandwiches, soups, salads, and pizzas. Between my wife and me, we have tried a bit of everything, and have been happy with it all. There is one aspect of their menu that I don't like: their soup selection changes for each day of the week. I hate having to plan my visits around whether or not they are offering a soup that I like that day. Less picky customers can probably find a soup they like no matter what day it is - they offer four each day. Two features of Newk's that we really like: 1) They have a sink outside of the restrooms so you can wash your hands without having to smell or hear your fellow diners doing their business, and 2) There is a refrigerated "to go" case that offers many of their items to take with you. It can be a real time-saver if you are in a hurry. Newk's is a good choice if you want a quick and tasty meal at lunchtime. My family loves newks because there is always something for everyone. I always get the newks favorite salad. I have to tell you I love this salad. It has fruit, nuts and chicken. It's always fresh and delicious. My sister always gets a pizza and they are light crisp and wonderful. The soups and sandwiches are always good. You get quite a bit of food for the money. I love going to Newks! Anytime I go home for a visit its a must do! The food is wonderful, the staff is friendly and informative. The place is always nice and clean. I have seen Newk's Eatery over the years in my travels. I had the idea it was a deli kind of place with pizza. Well, my friends, I discovered it was a whole lot more. They have all kinds of sandwiches, some of which are unique to Newk's including the one I tried today - the Newk's Q! Newk's Q had roasted chicken, Applewood bacon, swiss cheese, and was made the way I like it...slathered with a spicy white BBQ sauce! I don't know what type of bread it was but I usually hate bread that gives my jaw a workout. That was not the case though. The bread was crunchy on top but soft underneath. It was easy on the jaw! With my sandwich, I had the Pimento 5 cheese mac & cheese. Very cheesy and creamy mac & cheese and the pimentos added a little bite to it. There was freshly brewed sweet tea that wasn't the sweetest tea I ever had, but it was sweet enough and refreshing. Newk's also has a lot of salads, soup, and pizza to choose from. And I really wanted a homemade dessert but decided to hold back. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. You can see the kitchen at work also. My food was delivered within 5 minutes. We were visiting Little Rock from NOLA for a few days and staying at the Park Avenue Lofts nearby. Ordered in for dinner to watch the LSU / Jacksonville St. football game and had several pizzas, some sides and a steak sandwich with caramelized onions. The order was ready in about 15 minutes which was surprising (and great!). We had a 5-cheese, a Mediterranean, pepperoni and another one I forget. All are 10" pizzas. The crust is first-rate and definitely skews more "artisinal" than Domino's. Nice, chewy and a bit crisp, with a well-developed structure and a nice, lean dough. Toppings are not crazy generous but ample. The 5-cheese was also topped with sun-dried tomatoes. I wasn't paying attention when ordering - in fact, I didn't even look at the menu and just said, give me a cheese pizza. The tomatoes were a nice surprise too. Don't know what cheeses were on the pizza but is detected a tart, somewhat salty cheese so I'm guessing a goat cheese or some sort of feta cheese. Really tasty. One of the other pizzas, I forget which, had slices of tomato with pepperoni and something else. The tomatoes were good, ripe and not a standard, greenhouse 6x6 ethylene gassed tomato. Which means they had flavor. :-) The steak sandwich eater loved his. Really loved it. I didn't pay attention to the bread and have no idea what they use but it seems that they make their own. This is a fast food place trying to be a little upscale. Menu choices are wide and varied from burgers, pizza's to soups and salads. You order at the counter, then your order is brought to your table. There's a central bar where you can get pickles, crisp bread sticks, salad dressings and other condiments. There were 4 in our party and there were mistakes made in 2 of the orders. Not a great record. The food was adequate, protein sources were limited on the pizzas, and the crab lobster bisque seems to lack any definitive flavor or texture. Overall, I'd rather go elsewhere for fast food. First time I tried Newk's was in Flowood, MS and I was delighted to see them making their way into AR and LA. Wednesday is Lobster Bisque day, which I highly recommend. The bisque is smooth and tasty with just the right amount of heat The salads are wonderful. So fresh and filled with good ingredients. I literally ate all I could and completely filled the to-go box. Love the Newk's special salad. Usually eat a soup and sandwich. The club sandwich is a fave of mine. Today I'm eating under 600 calories so tried the Shrimp Poboy Shrimp are generous in size and cocktail sauce is delicious. My favorite dessert is the Coconut Cake.
