They took off what they wanted on the roof & not what the insurance stated. When I requested to have them cover the roof of an evening because of the dew, they always wanted to do it after 8 PM which is against the city rules, yet, they had all day long to do it. First time they "covered" the roof they put duct tape down. Second time they put two sandbags down and not at the top, but at the angle. They tried to charge me for the permit, but that was all part of the contract. When they got the permit, they put down, it was a complete roof and it was only a partial. The employee advised the inspector that the city of Torrance advised him to put a complete roof replacement vs partial. There were tons of holes in the roof when the inspector came and the inspector was not happy. I wish I could post pictures here. read more

We deeply regret choosing Newhaus Roofing for our roofing project. After completion, we consulted with a professional engineer with more than 45 years of experience in residential construction and rehabilitation. Based on his review, he estimated that we were overcharged by approx $20,000 compared to reasonable industry pricing for the scope of work performed. In addition, several concerns arose during and after installation: * Interior Damage / Carelessness: We discovered multiple small nail penetrations extending from the attic area into interior portions of our home. We found numerous roofing nails left throughout the yard despite the company being aware that we have dogs. And we found chipping around and under the perimeter of our roof specifically where beams stretch out the most beyond the walls of our home. * Performance Claims: We were informed during the sales process that the new roofing system would help improve insulation performance and interior comfort. In fact, the home has not performed as represented and has actually felt colder during winter conditions following installation, and no noticeable improvement during the summer heat. * Lack of Transparency & Follow-Up: We made four separate requests for attic photographs taken by Newhaus during the project. Despite repeated follow-up attempts, these materials were never provided. This created frustration and raised concerns regarding communication and organization. For the premium price charged, we expected substantially better workmanship, professionalism, and follow-through. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect that expectation. read more

This is a follow up to my Mom's review about Newhaus. After I helped her post a review after her bad experience, George called me immediately and sarcastically thanked us for the review/ feedback. Don't know how he got my number and why he called me instead of my Mom. However he threatened us even more, he said he will do his part by going through all the recordings of our house inspection and submit it to the city of LA. He said he will take money out of his own life savings to hire a lawyer to get them to lower the value of my parents house. I asked him why would he do that? They are already 52K richer from the contract my parents signed and paid them. I think we're all entitled to our honest opinion of a company especially after what happened with my parents. There are already other things that our family are stressed about especially with my Dad's health. That's why it took us awhile to even write a review. One other thing (there are actually a lot of things) my Mom forgot to mention. Was very happy with the roofing work we got done in 2021, but recently got a leak which we would've thought would be covered by our "Lifetime Warranty" certificate. Took two weeks to send out a guy who had zero roofing experience who had to get in touch with another guy who sight unseen said our damage was not cause by their worked and therefore not covered by our warranty. Even beyond the utter uselessness of their "warranties", showed zero initiative in ever following up even after DAYS. This is zero slight to the gentleman we worked with from there back in '21 who was always responsive to us. This review is for my interaction with Newhaus, during on site estimate and before, as I chose a different company to do my roof based on my experience with this company. First, they had multiple people calling me after they received my inquiry from Angie's list, so I received too many phone calls from them. When we finally arranged time for an estimate, the very very nice young man showed up on time. He would not inspect the entire roof (all other roofers did without pause) until I asked. When it came time to discuss the actual work and price of my repairs, he put me on the phone with a gentleman at their main office. This guy who was "their expert" completely turned me away from Newhaus. He would not answer my direct questions, he was patronizing and he contradicted himself during the conversation. REALLY disliked chatting with this guy and I had an issue with someone diagnosing issues on my roof over the phone from iPhone pictures. Shoddy work, left cracked tile, old patch jobs and mismatched tiles, that they broke in the first place. (see picture below) Didn't show up on time or even the scheduled days. Scheduled for Feb. 13; workers showed up Feb. 14 with an hour notice. Worked an hour and a half and left. Said they would return Feb. 16; showed up on Feb. 17. Worked an hour and a half and left. Finished their version of the completed job Feb. 20. Did not send completed work photos until after I signed completion form. Sent three. The below photo is one of them. Repeatedly asked for completion photos and if they were going to repair the work in the photo below; they won't send completion photos or return my phone calls. Didn't warrantee work. Left all of their trash from the repair in my backyard. Two guys, 5.5 hours of labor, two rolls of tar-paper type material = $8K? Since it was the rainy season at the time he offered to have his team tarp our roof asap to prevent any further damage. He showed us different options for shingles and explained the pros and cons of color and material clearly. When the weather cleared up, his team was able to finish the job very quickly along with the necessary permits and city inspections. Also the quality, craft, and overall communication during the process was very reassuring. Even when we had comments and concerns, they were able to problem-solve and quickly come up with solutions to meet our needs. DO NOT HIRE Newhaus. You will realize when working with them: They Take Advantage of Senior Citizens, No Transparency, Predatory Sales Tactics, Overpricing. Please look at their other 1 star reviews on Google, Yelp, Angie's List, and BBB. They are not accredited by BBB and have a C- rating with 9 complaints closed in the last 3 years I wish I would have consulted my kids who told me should have focused on those 1 star reviews before hiring. I hired Newhaus to do a roof replacement which cost $24K. It was still expensive (lower quotes around 15K from other contractors). I only selected them because Boris, seemed "nice" by advising me the contractor I wanted was not licensed. But as soon as I signed the contract and original roof was demolished everything went downhill. They put us in a bad situation. According Newhaus inspector, George, we needed to replace all the plywood on our roof because it was not up to City Code. Before we could even assess the situation or review our options George told us we had to decide by 12:30 pm just the day after they demolished our entire roof and left our house vulnerable to the weather. Newhaus took advantage of the situation and provided outrageous estimates (up to 112K). We asked George to provide an official estimate, but their accountant won't be available till the following week. If we didn't take their offer, they threatened to show pictures of our "not to Code roof" to the city of LA which insinuated that we would also receive Code Enforcement citations or not pass any inspection which would mean additional delays and costs. If we choose not to take the added work, liability waiver signature is needed, give $1K deposit and scare us into thinking there would be added delays and the city inspector would not come in for weeks. George claims he gave us the opportunity to say no to this additional work but he really pressured us and didn't give us much time to make a decision. After sharing my experience with other people, I later found out that as a homeowner you can schedule your own inspection appointment with the City. So if the contractor claims it will take weeks, it is likely because the contractor chose not to schedule the inspection appointment for you, so verify the available inspection appointments for yourself on the LADBS website. Also make sure to go up to the roof when their salesman goes up for their own inspection. According to Newhaus they wouldn't have known if the plywood was old without demolishing the shingles. That is not necessarily true because other contractors have said you can make that determination from inside the attic. We took the added work for another $28K because we didn't want any delays and leave our roof vulnerable to bad weather. When they provided the estimates of the cost of materials, labor, and etc, one of the glaring items was the price of plywood. According to their estimate it was $600 per plywood of 24 sqft, which is outrageous because at Home Depot it costs about $80. The work didn't start 5 days after we signed the contract; all the rush for us to make a decision and they still made us wait. They started removing the old plywood and replacing with new ones on Wednesday, there was trash pick up the same day. But after work on Thursday, no hauling company picked up the trash till the following Monday. Based on what their project manager Marcos told me the trash collector was filled and they couldn't get anyone else to pick up the trash. In my mind they're already overcharging us by more than 200% and they can't even afford to pay another hauling company to pick up the trash. I tried to keep this review short but it is hard because everything just went wrong. They never provided us with receipts for the materials. My daughter asked Peter to show us receipts and line costs of the change order contract but all he gave was an excel spreadsheet that took him two tries to add up to the total contract amount of 52K (24K for replacement roof and $28K for plywood replacement). This shows that they were making up numbers to justify the contract cost. They are very dishonest. We asked for George's last name or a business card so that my son can verify his credentials on LinkedIn and the CSLB but he lied to us three times. FYI, everytime you work with a contractor all their licensing information and people associated with them are available in the CSLB website. When George finally gave his last name it didn't match what was displayed in the CSLB website. I don't understand why he thought it was necessary to lie to paying customers. I'm hoping this won't happen to other homeowners. I will to continue paying the $52K loan I took out from the bank for the next 10 years. I just can't believe this happened to us, I thought contractors would be much nicer to senior citizens but that is not the case, they took full advantage of us. Jack was my Project Manager for my roofing work, foundation reinforcement, and painting of the exterior of my house. Jack and his team were very professional. They even identified that the cracks on the exterior of my house was due to deteriorating posts in the crawl space that had dry rot. This project started off as just a roofing project to include foundation reinforcement. My house was long overdue for repainting of the exterior, but because of the cracks on the exterior, i was going to investigate that further. Jack and his team provided me with consultation on something that i was going to look into. We ended up repainting the house after the foundation work was completely. The paint job and the roofing work made my house have so much more curb appeal. I didn't go down into the crawl space myself, but I'm sure the work was great judging by the roofing and paint work. read more

***DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME*** Where oh where do I begin? Let's start from the beginning. In March 2020 our roof was leaking. We called Newhaus roofing. Like another reviewer stated they gave us a ridiculously high estimate and when we stated we wanted to get another estimate they lowered the price. It was right when Covid started and we were desperate to get our roof fixed and desperate to find anybody to work during Covid so we foolishly accepted their price. We had problems from the beginning. First, at the time they were putting the new roof on it started to rain and the rain leaked through the ceiling. The second Incident happened when they were done with the roof my husband and I went around and inspected it and there were some nails missing from some of the tiles. Third, the roofers left excess tile in our driveway after the job was completed which my husband had to move. The fourth time happened in January when we had the heavy rain. Rain leaked through to our ceiling and left a nasty stain. Then finally just this month after the heavy rain AGAIN water leaked through our roof to our ceiling in the SAME place that they "fixed" back in January. I texted Mike and he sent his roofers over to fix the roof but refuses to fix the water stain on our ceiling saying we need to clean out the leaves because it's the leaves causing the roof to leak. Excuse me?! I have lived in this house for 20 years and NEVER had an issue with leaves causing the roof to leak! Had the roof been installed correctly the first time I wouldn't have any water stains for them to fix! So now I will have to hire another roofing company to come and fix the ceiling stain that would have never happened had they did the roof right the first time! You can always judge a company by how they treat their customers AFTER the job has been completed and paid for months and even years later. Obviously, Newhaus roofing is not a company that values their customers months and years after a project has been completed because my ceiling still has a water stain (see picture). Initial roofing was fine but the warranty is absolutely worthless. We had major leaks 8 months ago, about a year after the new roof. Water came through the ceiling and down interior walls and soaked through the insulation. Newhaus has been no help for those 8 months (and counting)! They don't respond to calls or texts, except maybe a disingenuous "we're working on it" every few weeks. Most recently, they said repeatedly that they'd be out to look at the problem, confirmed the day of the appointment, and still didn't show up. Newhaus's word clearly means nothing once they have your money. They don't care about your time, your property, or your well-being. My insulation got completely soaked, and has just been sitting in the house for 8 months, along with my water-damaged walls and ceiling. We had our composite shingle roof replaced by Newhaus in May 2023. Getting the roof installed was not as smooth as we would have liked as the crew that showed up to tear off the old shingles stopped with only about a 1/3 completed when they stopped work because they thought it might rain. But they didn't bother to tarp, leaving the shingleless sections open to the elements. Fortunately, it didn't rain and they returned a few days later to finish tearing off the rest of the shingles. The crew that installed the new shingles were pretty good and got the job completed in about a week. Unfortunately, cleanup was sloppy and I found pieces of old roof tile scattered around the house, but worse was that the metal staples that fastened the old shingles were scattered by the hundreds. I spent hours picking them up by hand, and I am still finding them to this day. In late August 2023, we had the tropical hurricane come through the Los Angeles area, and I found a leak around one of the bathroom vents in the attic. I was able to place to place a bucket to catch the water, and no damage was sustained. After the storm passed, I called the company and left a voice mail (NO ONE ever answers the phone), asking that someone come out to fix the leak. NO response for 2 calls, finally got someone to respond after the 3rd call. One guy came over, got on the roof, and supposedly sealed the leaking area around the vent. Note: This vent did not have a cap on it, but it never leaked with the old roof in 20 years. Jump forward to February 1st 2024 when another series of rainstorms came through. Again, I found a leak around the same vent as before. After the storms passed, we left 3 voice mails without response until the 4th day when I was told a crew guy would come the next day between 12 and 4pm. We waited all afternoon without anyone showing up or calling. I called the office the next day and left 2 voice mails before someone from the "Production Team" responded and assured me that someone would come the next day between 9 an 5pm. We waited all day...and once again...NO ONE showed up, and no one called to let us know. I waited a couple of days and called AGAIN. No response. Called again 2 days later...No response. The next day, I was out, but my wife was home when a crew guy showed up unannounced and said he was there to fix the leak. He got on the roof and told my wife the vent didn't have a hood, and that he would go to a hardware store, get one, and install. He left...and never came back. At this point, my neighbor came over and installed the vent cap I purchased. The next day, we received a small amount of rain...and the leak was still there. My neighbor used some sealant a few days later, and it appears I finally have a rainproof roof. If you need to get a new roof, I would suggest you look elsewhere other than Newhaus Roofing and Construction. read more

Use this company at your own risk. One of the worst contractors/ companies we've dealt with since owning our home for 25 years. We had 3 companies come out and Neuhaus was the middle, most comprehensive quote. 1. Everything was fine during the initial visit. Once we paid the initial deposit everything changed. We even went by a reference that they provided us and spoke to the customer. Although the roof wasn't Spanish tile the customer was satisfied. 2. Nobody showed up or called on the day they were scheduled to start the job. We had to call them. My husband had taken off work. After the fact, The excuse was the worker was in the hospital. The Project Manager didn't feel it was necessary to contact us. 3. The company was only contracted to replace approximately 500sq ft of our roof. It was only supposed to take 7 days. It took a few days shy of a MONTH!!! Most of the delays were due to workers not showing up or the Project Manager not sending anyone to the job site. 4. If my husband wasn't agile enough to climb on the roof to check the work we would have been screwed. The newly replaced roof wasn't lined up correctly and it was clearly different from the adjacent side from the street view. The new roof also overshot the rain gutters so the water would have ended up puddling on the side of our house creating damage where none previously existed.The workers also left all the debris on the roof and in the gutters and they didn't clean it until we brought it up. 5. The Project Manager was absolutely useless. He had no idea what was going on and his communication was absolutely horrific!!! 6. The workers would show up with no supplies or ladders. They actually used our ladder. We would have done better hiring Home Depot workers!!! 7. Our roof is a orangey Spanish tile roof. Initially the sent tile that did not match. They also used black tar to seal visible sections from the street where non existed before. When we asked them to remove the obviously visible tar ,their solution was to cover it with tile colored spray paint. 8. We tried to contact the owner. This review is for the San Jose location: While my roof wasn't leaking, it was on its last legs and I wanted to get to it before the inevitable happened. I had five separate companies come out to take a look at my roof and quote the project. Out of those five, only two companies actually listened to me and what I wanted. Newhous, however, not only listened, but explained in detail how the project would go, how they would protect common leak-prone areas, and how they would install new flashing, ridge caps, low profile vents that would be color matched... all in all, I had a 15 item list of what would be done. Fortunately it was also the lower quote! I signed the dotted line hoping for the best, but (as you never know with construction projects) anticipated the worst. My expectations were blown away. All in all, it took a week from signing the dotted line until my new roof was on my home. During that time, my project manager had some time off and went out of town. Did Newhous drop the ball? Not at all! Another project manager took over and BOTH were in constant contact throughout the process. Questions were immediately responded to and I was kept up to date with the progress of inspections, when the workers would arrive (they were always on time), and made sure I was happy with the new roof. We were happy with the new roof--and the attic vents they added, because previous owners did not install them--and the fascia boards installed to finish the roof. Their crews were attentive and discovered we needed pony walls to support the roof, and it was expensive, but they did a great job with it. We've had a reoccurring leak in our flat roof for the past year. We met with a few roofing companies who all tried to convince us to replace our entire roof, instead of helping us with a small repair. After meeting with several roofing companies we hired Newhaus immediately after our walk through estimate with David and Vic. Not only were they super friendly, they took the time to explain what they would do, what materials they would use, and broke down each step they'd take during the repair. We received a quote on the spot (not something we got from other companies) and they didn't pressure us to do more work than we wanted to do. David and Vic's crews showed up on time, and they kept us involved in the repair every step of the way. After the demolition, they brought me up on the roof to show exactly what the problem was and went over how they were going to fix it. They went out of their way to seal the exposed roof during the night between the demolition and repair day after I expressed concerns of animals getting in the exposed crawl space. They even sent someone out later that night to make the covering water tight because they were monitoring the weather and saw there was a slight chance of rain in our area. They made us feel like they really cared about our house and they did a fantastic job. I just had Sam from Newhaus Roofing inspect my roof because of a leak, and I have no problem with him, personally. He was polite and apparently knowledgeable. However, his quote was ridiculously high. He proposed replacing 210 square feet of underlayment at a price of over $5,000! That is over $20 per square foot. I can see his proposing the area that he wants to replace so that we cover any possible roof leaks but the unit cost is ludicrous. He also said that he wouldn't warranty less underlayment replacement, surely as a means to increase the size of the job. He mentioned earlier in his inspection that they have a minimum charge but didn't specify what it was nor did I ask since I never expected to get such a high quote. I believe based on his quote that their minimum job is $5,000 and he backed into that figure. I know what to expect for this job based on past experiences so I know this quote is ridiculous. I'm upset that they wasted my time. If they had disclosed upfront that their minimum job was $5.000, I could have told them that they didn't need to come by and quote the job, but they didn't. I suggest that they tell potential customers these important details up front. Other than that, I think Sam did a thorough inspection. He checked the attic and the roof but the quote was simply unacceptable, particularly since the roof is probably due for replacement in 5-10 years. read more
