An absolute community gem! Same location but it's the second owner and it has been for a while. I go here all the time now. They have so many things that the big box retailers don't have. Of course, so many products that you can't get at the big guys. But, more importantly, the service is unbelievable. Think back to the days when you could walk in a place and a genuinely interested employee would be there to help you and have the knowledge to go along with it. That's what it's like here. You are barely get in the door and somebody says, how can I help you. Pricing is fairly competitive. If you're comparing penny to penny, you might be disappointed. Will I pay $0.25 more for an item not to have to drive across town to a big box multi-billion dollar retailer where a teenager who could not be more disinterested in working gives me the wrong advice or points me in the wrong direction? Honestly these guys are my go to when it comes to DIY projects and even BBQ supplies. I walk into the store and with in seconds an employee is working with me to see what they can help with. They offer excellent advice, if not sure if these guys are retired professionals but they are super knowledgeable in all things and offer advice on what to avoid or watch out for when completing my project. Entered this store early evening looking for an unusual small piece of RV plumbing. Which in all fairness the RV World could not help and recommended to check a hardware store at this time. In short, I knew an adapter piece could be found in a hardware store. Well the first person, a staff worker young man in this True Value store. Greeted us with a friendly welcome and was about to help in the search. But, unfortunately a older guy, slight stocky build. Another staff worker, or manager of the store. Inquired about the piece of plumbing we may need. Soon as we mentioned it's an RV piece and looked at it. He flat out said "we don't carry anything that could work with it." Me and my friend being insistent upon looking, he proceeded reluctantly to help. Did look at a few items but no adapter found at the time in this store. The main issue here is this guy did not even believe some how maybe he could be of help. It seemed the young man and the lady behind the counter were zipped lipped and did not what to interject a helpful suggestion due to this guy's attitude. With all my years of high level customer service. That's why this small complaint is being filed here. This manager or maybe owner - I did not see any name tags - could have first been a lot more agreeable yet mention that he is not sure if an adapter can be found. The RV World did it right even though we could not find it there at this time mentioned. In all, HOME DEPOT on Newhall had what we needed. Which at the beginning of our search lol... I did tell my friend shopping with me we will find it at HOME DEPOT... The End... lol read more

I was doing some brief errands yesterday and needed to go to a hardware store, I have gone to Home Depot twice this past month and didn't want to make a run back for just a couple of small items to finish my projects. I knew this hardware store was here but had never ventured in. Back in high school I had a summer job working at a mom & pop hardware store and this place sort of reminded me of that experience. They have enough hardware, paint and home improvement items to keep you from needing to go to the big box stores. The people that worked there were friendly and I even found something I could not find at Home Depot so score. I will be back for future visits when needed instead of driving over to the larger stores. read more

Located in the Valencia Lanes shopping center... plenty of parking! They had a nice, small assortment of succulents outside the front door for $4.99. It looked like your typical mama-papa store with a little bit of everything! The store was very clean and well lit. Everything seemed to have price tags on the shelf and they had a small assortment of most home improvement items you could think of. The staff was very friendly... greeting us as we walked in... and then we had at least 3 workers offer their assistance. We were only there about 10 minutes browsing the store. The staff is so educated and helpful. I'm always greeted and helped right away. Over the past few years I've learned their store floor plan and I love how easy it is to find what I need. They have great quality brands and good pricing. So easy to run there instead of the depot which is so far away. I've done electrical, to plumbing and gardening updates thru their store. I Had a leak today under my sink. My mulitipure carbon block water filter had a broken 3/8 brass elbow. The feed pipe is a plastic flexible pipe. I walk into true value newhall hardware on lyons. Tell the cashier I will need help in plumbing. She said go on back. 5 min later i have the elbo the fittings to hold a plastic pipe. We received amazing service this week from the professionals at True Value. We walked in the door and were immediately greeted by a cashier. We asked her about the availability of a plumbing part we brought in and she confirmed they had the product, pointed us to the isle it was on and assigned someone to help us once we reached the isle. Wow! Once we were in the isle, someone was there to help us. Their stock is complete and really caters to hard-to-find parts. We searched Lowes for a hard-to-find fitting and were told it was obsolete; but this hardware store had it in stock. Our home was built in 1990, so it's really important we can go somewhere where we can find hardware for our home needs. We were in and out in 5 minutes and were able to make our repair after one visit due to parts being on-hand. Thank you to everyone who helped us! read more

Listen, I have never been accused of being a handy, do-it-yourselfer. My skills in this area are definitely limited. Many times, when I am brave enough to undertake small projects or tasks, I am somewhat dependant on tips from the staff at the home improvement stores that I shop at. That being said, I typically shop at either Home Depot or Lowe's, depending on which is closer to my current location. Now, this was my first visit to Newhall True Value. I was so impressed by my experience, I'm making this my go to store for my home improvement needs. So I was looking for a caulking gun. Apparently I have 3 tubes of caulk at home, with zero guns. Go figure. So I chose to come to this store because, like I said earlier, it was convenient. I had a small window of about 30 mins to get to a store, buy a gun and make it on time to another appointment. Normally, I have to drive much further to get to one of the bigger chain stores, and then I have to navigate the huge warehouse to find what I'm looking for. If I'm lucky, there is a staff member that I can ask, but that's rare. And even if I find someone to ask a question to, they are rarely helpful. I feel like the staff there either are too busy with other tasks, they don't work in this area (so inevitably it takes 15 mins to get the right person there), or not interested enough to give detailed helpful tips. So I figured, I'll give this place a shot. I was in and out of Newhall True Value in 5 minutes. Not only that, I was greeted immediately upon walking in. And when I told the man what I was looking for, he did not point me to the correct aisle. He walked me over to the caulking section, took the time to answer all my questions, and showed me 3 different options to choose from. Plus he gave me the pros and cons for each caulking gun! He also gave me amazing helpful instructions. For those people out there, like me, who aren't very handy, those detailed tips that include, "right here," with a finger point or "this is how this works," make the difference between being able to complete the task easily or driving yourself nutty with trying to figure things out on your own. He was very knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I didn't get his name but I am extremely grateful for his time and advice. For these reasons, this is my new home improvement store. They are very nice and when I gave them the screw I need just a half inch shorter they were able to find it for me within seconds. I remember when they first opened this place up!! It was so great inside, has the same smaller charm of the old Newhall Hardware of the old days. I own a salon close by and it's a lifesaver having True Value so close!!! There's no way I could ever get in and out of the ginormous other stores and back to work to grab a specific battery, lightbulb etc... The owner and selection there has gotten huge! I totally recommend this place if you are close by!! P.S. it's also between my favorite car wash and a post office... Get LOTS done in little time. Win, win! read more
