I first dealt with them when I opened my office and I needed the locks changed. The guy who did them was thorough and gave me advice on the best locks for my office as well as the inner doors. He explained what is worth the money instead of just selling me on everything. Last year when a homeless man tried to break into our office, we called around for someone to fix the door, everyone we called was too expensive and they wanted us to wait anywhere from 3 days to 1 week, for a business?? Newcomb & Sons took care of it in less time and the price was reasonable! Today I went in to get keys cut and Ed helped me. He was really informative and even told me he would order that ones he didn't have and to come back next week. I was so bummed when I realized that half of the key to my car snapped off inside of my car's ignition! I honestly was dreading having to deal with another one of those shady locksmith companies who decide to charge you double the amount quoted over the phone. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience dealing with Newcomb. Rob was the name of the individual who provided me with service. He was a really nice guy, and very polite over the phone and in person. Very professional. I was charged about $175 for labor and a new key that they cut themselves. To my surprise, they actually included a second key for free. He also went above and beyond his duties and lubricated all of the locks in my car. This guy was amazing. When I called the Hyundai dealership on Auto Mall Pkwy they quoted me a price of $90 JUST FOR THEM TO SUPPLY AND CUT ONE KEY. What a bunch of criminals. After finding my dog and myself locked out of the house at 8 pm on Friday, December 4,2009 without a coat and with temps in the 30's I called Newcomb & Sons for an after hours rescue. The operator with the dispatch was great and assured me that I would be getting a phone call back within a few minutes. After 20 minutes of sitting in the cold I called again and the same operator told me that he was unable to get in contact with either the on-call locksmith OR the back-up and again assured me that I would be receiving a call back as soon as possible. This review is based on customer service only (which is very important) as I ended up not needing them to come out after all. My fiance' lost the keys to his car, or so he thought. I called a few places that came up in my search. The first place was unfriendly and didn't sound like they wanted to work. The 2nd was very unprofessional in the way they spoke to me and when I said I would call them back if I wanted to use them their response was rude. I then called Newcomb & Sons. It was pretty close to closing time, but the woman who answered was very professional, friendly, and didn't make me feel rushed at all. She answered all my questions, gave me a fair quote, and even suggested I try calling the dealer to see if our key code was available which would save me a good amount of money. I ended up finding my fiance's keys in the laundry (hahaha) but if I ever do need any kind of security, keys, or locksmith services (it's inevitable) then I will go straight to Newcomb & Sons! I am very happy to say I have had another great experience with Newcomb and Sons. I live out of the area, but work in Vallejo. I had asked a local car dealership in Sac to make me a duplicate key for my Chevy Suburban. They told me it would be $125. So I decided to come to Newcomb and Son's who made me a key for $30. There were three gentlemen working and one lady, all were extremely friendly and made sure everything was correct, worked in the door and ignition before I left. Had Newcomb install all new locks in my house in mid July for $400 -went to open my interior garage door today (2 months to the day later) and found it wouldn't open. The door knob is falling off and the dead bolt isn't retracting-called them and was told it was out of their warranty that they'd come out but I'd have to pay 79 for the visit and for the new lock if necessary. If the job had been done properly I wouldn't need them to come back out. read more

We've been using Newcomb for almost 13 years now. Anything from cutting keys to working out multiple units with common areas and all under one master lock. Even though months may pass from one visit to another, Ed & Rob recognize us and treat us as if we drop by weekly. On one occasion we brought in a hutch we purchased at an antique shop where they lost the keys. Rob told us he did not have a key blank that would work, however he literally reshaped a skeleton type key so that it worked. I requested a key to fit my two locks on my file cabinet. I had the number and a photo of the key. I was told by customer service the key was no longer available and the only thing to do was order new locks and they would be keyed alike. I placed the order and they arrived very quickly. It was only after the 2 new locks were installed did I discover they were the same key as locks just removed! So seems there are still keys made to fit the locks. If you have any key or lock issues with your motorcycle, go to Newcomb and Sons! My first visit to Newcomb was a little disheartening. I was quoted an amount that I couldn't handle along with a lot of work that was out of my technical range. I had lost the key to my motorcycle and because of it's age was unable to aquire a key code from the dealer. The specific model, a Triumph TT600 was all internal and I had no way of undoing the fork lock. Upon coming into the store a second day, I was greeted by Rob who quickly helped me locate the key type and found out the my tank and seat lock all were 6-pin of the same key. A little allen wrench work and I came back with my tank lock. I dropped off my lock at 3:30 on Saturday and told Rob that I was leaving town the next day and that coming back on Monday would require changing my plans. I received a call at 5:00 that same day and Rob had impressioned my key and made a spare. For less than I was originally quoted and in less time, I had the desired result. Rob's customer service was excellent and his willingness to go the extra mile shown a bright light on the company. They did a great job, were paid promptly and on time but for some unknown reason severed contact with us and didn't complete the final phase of the job. Now I need copies of a key made. Of course we marked them "do not duplicate ". Normally you return to the locksmith who made the original key. 24 hours ago I left a message at their business asking when would be a good time to stop by and have copies made. I grew up in Vallejo and everybody knows Newcomb & Sons because this place has been here forever. I have never had to use them before but when I found myself with my family locked out of our house last week they were the first place I called. Here is were I have to make myself VERY clear. Most of the calls a locksmith gets is when someone is in a bad situation and they NEED someone right away.I work in the automotive/tire service business and at times I may have very similar customer situations were people are stressed out and need their vehicles repaired ASAP. At times I may have committed myself to other customers vehicles and may not have the availability to jump right onto another car/truck. BUT I have always taken the minute or two to talk to the customer and give them options after a short parking lot analysis with them.In almost all cases I work something out and get the opportunity to repair the vehicle within a time frame that is beneficial for both me and the customer. Even though I do not like doing it , I have REFERRED customers to other nearby shops that could handle their problem quicker then I could have , because I value peoples time. I NEVER sit at my desk and just tell the customer "I am to busy , you have to leave your vehicle with me and I will get to it when I can". So when the guy at Newcomb answered the phone and I told him my situation , all I got back from him was HIS problems about how backed up they are and it may be awhile before he could come out if he could come out at all. So I guess my family and I were just supposed to wait until they were ready to help me. Thanks Newcomb & Sons but NO thanks. I got in touch with a mobile locksmith and was back in my house within the hour. Bigger businesses allow smaller ones to slowly come up and take over because the bigger business loses sight of the true goal......customer satisfaction. read more

I noted in another review how I had to give up on my "old" long time local locksmith. I still needed keys made. This particular case I had a complex auto "intelligent key" that was very costly and needed to be carefully cut. I checked with the dealership that would be programming it. They explained that they send the keys out for cutting and I could save a lot of time [and $] if I got it cut myself. Thus, I ended up at Newcomb & Sons. After a brief wait the man cut my key in very short order and I was good to go... I thought. Dummy me! I didn't check how well it functioned until I got home. I had more running around to do so I stopped back about an hour later. I could detect a slight difference in the cutting [very slightly undercut] and told him about it. He asked if it was perhaps an aftermarket vs factory key. They do not always fit the cutting machine the same. I was not sure. He carefully trimmed the cutting and walked out with me to try it on my vehicle. STILL it didn't fit. He 'worked" the key and hand filed it over a period of at least 10 minutes until it finally worked as well as my remaining original key. [I play with cars a lot.My brother has his own shop in another area. I know how annoying this type work can be - especially when it is because a customer was saving a buck buying parts online..that don't fit correctly.] When he finished up he gave me a nod and said 'OK. Good to go." I pulled my wallet out and replied "I know I owe you more. You earned it." He just smiled and shook his head. He didn't get what his work was worth on this job, but he DID get a new customer who will be only too happy to spread the word about a gem of a business. read more

I called Newcomb in Sons expecting to be taking care of but all these people could do is make me feel like less than a human being. The receptionist was very short and I guess was having a bad day. I specifically stated I don't have my car key, she than stated so are we making a copy or are we making a first key? Ok, my patience is very short at this point, because I stated I have no way to get into my car use your brain lady. She than asked are we coming out to you or are you going to come to us? I told her I have no the way so I would need you to come out to me, I guess she didn't like my tone. So than she says well I was just asking in a snotty tone and tells me to hold in a very short rude way. The manager gets on the phone tells me my quote, I said OK to it. I than took this opportunity to tell him about his employee seems like he could really care less after he hung up in my face. I'm thinking to myself why would I want anybody to do business with this company they are rude and unprofessional. I am hoping the owner views this post and makes some adjustments.
