Hot matcha latte with blackberry syrup
    Andrea A.

Slowly making a dent on Durham's many wonderful cafes/coffeeshops, and my latest stop was New World Cafe! Located at the bottom of the Chesterfield building next to Brightleaf, I don't really hear New World mentioned a ton. I got a Matcha Latte hot with Blackberry Syrup; the matcha itself was good, but unfortunately, I could barely taste the blackberry and I think I'm partial to iced matcha lattes. I didn't end up getting anything else but I'm curious to try their açaí bowls in the future; they also have various hot breakfast items, sandwiches, and pastries. Ambiance is nice, lots of natural light: there's 4-5 tables as well as some counter seating; it wasn't super busy when we went on a Thursday morning, and most people were picking up their orders. Service was friendly and fast. Free 4-hour parking on W Pettigrew St and free 2-hour parking in Brightleaf lots. 7/10 would recommend!

I am probably going to be a regular here because I am obsessed with breakfast sandwiches and these hit the spot. They have multiple bread/bagel/english muffin/croissant options to put it on as well as condiments, meats, cheese, eggs, and vegetables. My go to breakfast toppings are avocado, egg, cheese, turkey sausage, and cream cheese so I'll probably have that in every bread variation they offer. Also, the breakfast sandwich is GOOD and FLAVORFUL. A lot of places put together a sandwich with no flavor, don't melt the cheese, cold, etc. This one was the opposite. I went two days in a row and will be back tomorrow since they're open every day until 3. The staff was friendly, the cafe is small and cute, and the food came out fast. They make a great coffee too. I got a vanilla matcha latte with oat milk and toffee syrup and it was fantastic. They also sell different types of boxes of teas and sell them individually for people to try too. The orange blossom caught my eye. At the register there is an assortment of pastries so I got a blueberry muffin because it looked so moist and pretty and it ended up being the best blueberry muffin I've ever had and my partner agreed. I love a perfect cafe and this was it.

We stumbled upon this place and wanted to try a local coffee shop. It's located next to Dram & Draught on the corner. Inside is modern with a few tables and chairs to sit down. It's clean inside which was good to see. The staff were friendly and got our orders correct. Prices for drinks are about typical, I had the fresh drip coffee. I ordered the medium and it felt like I ordered a large. We would come back in the future!

This place was just ok. There were 2 people working on a weekend morning. The cashier was also serving coffee, and it didn't seem like she had enough time to do both. She told us our food would take a few minutes, which was fine. She didn't tell me it would take 10 minutes for the coffee, I finally had to remind her we were waiting. The food was ok. The bagels were just ok. There are a few places to sit inside, but you are definitely close to your neighbors.

Came here in the morning to grab breakfast and catch up with a friend. This cafe has nice lighting, big open windows and it was a nice place to have a conversation (not too loud, not completely silent). I got the Vermont açaí bowl, which was packed full to the top of the container. I like that it came with a lid so I could take the extras back. Great flavor, not too sweet and very filling. It was also prepared quickly within minutes and assembled very neatly! Not sure if this will become a regular spot for me, but definitely worth checking out!

We had seen this location while driving by several times and finally decided to pop in for coffee on a Saturday. The interior is a little small and pretty basic. They offer items like breakfast, toast and acai bowls but we were only here for coffee this day. The staff was friendly and the coffee/chai drinks were fine. Unfortunately, I just don't see a big draw for us to come back unless we happen to be in the area. There are other coffee places downtown that are a little homier.

Great little place. Limited seating but quick and fresh meal service. Baristas weigh and measure every cup of drip coffee to order, loved seeing the automated pourer at work.

Food: 4/5 Can't speak to the food per say but I got the 16 oz açaí smoothie which I think is a great deal for only 7.50! Delicious fruity and sweet, would order again and add protein next time. It smelled amazing when I walked in here. Ambiance 3/5 The outdoor seating is small but nice, would be great in the fall! The inside has 4 tables, only one of which that can fit more than two. Definitely a grab and go type of place. Service: 4/4 They were kind and quick to take my order. I got a cappuccino and smoothie, yum!!

I ordered mine on pressed focaccia bread and everything from the juicy crispy chicken to the parmesan cheese and toppings was top notch. Each of the flavors and textures played so well together that it's hard to stop eating after taking the first bite. Came on a Monday around 1pm and there was no line. Inside the shop was a classic deli where you order at the counter and then browse the various goods/merch while you wait. Service was fast and the sandwiches came out within 5 minutes of ordering. There are a couple picnic tables outside to sit and eat but other than that, mostly a to-go place. First timers: get the Uncle Primo's, you won't regret it!

But if the line were shorter in the future I'd come back and try other yummies from the menu.

I was a bit surprise when my total came to $18, as my salad was only $14 but I guess I should have paid attention that my bottle of soda was over $3. How much are the fountain drinks, I wonder? I found us a table inside since it was a bit hot that day (there is also plenty of seating outside AND inside if you go downstairs). The table and floor were messy but someone quickly came to clean it for me. They called our names over the loudspeaker and my best friend went to go get our food. She got the MotherClucker. Our food was REALLY good. If you like Cobb salad, you will definitely like this one. The chicken was pan seared perfectly, the vinaigrette was perfectly tangy and the bleu cheese was especially excellent. My friend's chicken sandwich has SO MUCH chicken salad on it. Impressive. There was so many neat items to see in the place. The murals were great, there were some cute retail spaces, a coffee bar up front, a bar downstairs, and ice cream outside! Unfortunately my bestie and I had too much to talk about so we didn't check it out as much as I otherwise wood. I would definitely try this place again!

"Sandwich shop just off University Dr in Durham"…read more Came here for an evening dinner with a friend. We arrived around 5:45pm, and there was ample parking, but I will say the place was HOPPING by the time we left at 6:30pm. The decor is very cute-- old-style, good seating and a bar area as well. You order at the table, and food comes to you. My dining mate got the Cypriot (Halloumi, Fig, Arugula, Tomato, Pesto) with a side of curly fries, and I wasn't very hungry so I got the Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders kids meal with a side salad. I also got a delicious bottled sparkling lemonade. Service was fine-- food comes after order, but you're mostly on your own once food is delivered, as expected. We got a couple of napkins with the food, but there are more self-serve up in the counter. Just don't expect someone to check on you or anything. The food was GREAT. My dining partner loved her sandwich (commented especially on the fig spread) and fries, and I really liked my meal as well. The side salad was surprisingly delicious, especially the addition of pickled red onion. The place was clean-- I went to the restroom, too, and everything was stocked well. Price was very fair. Overall, I'd happily come back. Easy, priced well, delicious. Not a place where you get a lot of "attention", but great for a simple meal.

Ordered the mozzarella sticks and the chicken cutlet sandwich (regular). The sticks were amazing with the sauce! The SS which bread was so fresh and soft as was the chicken cutlet. I wish it had more sauce and a little salt pepper vinegar splash would have gone a long way. A good sandwich but the most amazing or most flavorful sandwich I've ever had. Can't stress how fresh everything tasted though and it was huge only ate half.

They make cookies, pastries, breads (pan loaf and hand-formed ones), soups, hand pies, and sandwiches. The variety is amazing. During the holiday season, they offer larger pies and have various seasonal goods to offer. But what's also wonderful is this bakery gives back to the community in many ways. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)

I've seen this place many times but I didn't really know much except that the noodles were pretty and that was the case but also, there's a large pastry case inside with a good selection of cakes and delicious sweets. Good to know... Because of the wintry weather they created a special SnowMan menu which was really original by my opinion. It's tight inside. The tables are really close together, which is a good thing because as a Foodie I love to see what the others choose and chat with them. So that's what we did- the table next to us told us they recommended the Rice Porridge Bowl and the Belt Noodles. We can definitely call this kind of cuisine comfort food, especially during this chilly weather. Fun fact, my spouse took a little bit of my rice porridge to mix with the rest of her bowl to counter the spicy broth and the flavors were matchee so well. I did the same, taking broth from her noodle bowl to add to my porridge and it was so good. If you come if for the first try doing the same and tell us what you think. We immensely enjoyer the flavors, especially the fresh touch of the cilantro on top of the savory mushrooms. I would like to know more about the origin of this business because I think it's really original. After lunch, we were too tempted by the pastries and we left with a chocolate galette, a slice of peanut butter caramel chocolate cake, and an apple cidern mochi cake. Currently, it's 10PM and there's 1 left cake for tomorrow...only the apple cider mochi cake is left to try...we will see if it survives the night lol They make their own chili oil in house. 5 stars for sure !!!
