a shelf full of baked goods

As soon as I learned about New World Bakery Fortune Cookies I knew I had to try them. This is definitely a hole in the wall gem. The store is pretty tiny but you're able to pick up bags of fortune cookies for $3 and mess up cookies for $2 as well as giant cookies for $6. It's clear consumers like me are a tiny part of their business, but they were super friendly and I picked up ten bags of cookies. Make sure you have cash when you stop by and get ready to enjoy tasty, local fortune cookies.

Broken fortune cookies $2 per bag

All the best fortune cookies served with your checks from the local Chinese restaurants come from New World Bakery. Fortune cookie is the only thing they make and sell here at this tiny store. Specializing in Fortune cookies for many years since I was a kid, this is my only go-to place for it. Other brands I have seen has an orange-ish color with an off vanilla flavor, but this one here is the real deal. They offer super affordable options: broken cookies are $2 per bag, normal ones at $3, and individually wrapped ones for $2.50. No frills here, just high quality product for a low price. There is usually just one guy working the back and the front of this store, so be ready with your cash, he is a busy man.

Must stop when coming to Sacramento! Always fresh, always friendly! It's been a while so I'm glad they are still open and thriving.

This was my first time visiting this little hidden fortune gem and been waiting ever since COVID hit us. My bro had given us a bag of reject cookies a couple of years ago but I've never been able to catch a good time to come and when we did, they were already closed. This place is a true hole in the wall factory and I'm sure many have walked by never knowing this boarded up fortune cookie factory is there. A one pound bag of cookies is just $3 but the real deal is the one pound bag of rejects for only $2!!! Next I'll have to see if the San Francisco Chinatown fortune cookie is still open to the public. Try it....you'll like it! Gung Hay Fat Choy!

The baked goods were fresh. It's a small shop, but the quality is solid for a quick stop.

Walking in, the line was short but the staff took a really long time servicing people. Since it's a 2hr drive from SF to Sac, you know I'm about to bulk buy. The case had a good selection but quite a few were sold out already. Everything looks really delicious but I had to control myself. Almond Croissant $7.50 - I don't remember what this tasted like so it must've been standard. Matcha Croissant $9 - Don't let the price deter you because for $9, you get a big filling croissant and it was honestly so delicious. The dipped part was like a white chocolate matcha and the inside matcha filling was so good. I don't know how but I fridged it and ate it the next day, IT WAS STILL CRISPY! This was the highlight and highly recommend getting it. Blueberry Choux $11 - This was also really good too. The blueberry filling was creamy and delicious. It tasted really fresh. Macarons $2.95 each - Standard stuff. I got a Thai coconut cream and this is a flavor I haven't seen before and recommend trying it! In summary, highly recommend trying this place. It is on the pricier side but if you're like me and don't go to Sac often, I would give this place a try and buy extra!!

I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants to experience high tea! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!

I haven't tried their baos or pastries yet, but they do have a limited selection of options that look pretty good. I usually come here for their fruit basket cakes. Large, very clean. All of the employees were friendly. It has a little bit of everything. It has a bakery, sandwiches, soups, stews, other items as well. They even serve an afternoon tea. I decided to go for the chicken and mushroom congee. (rice porridge.). I also got a green onion hotdog roll to take home with me. To drink, I had a green tea with lemon. The congee was amazing. A rich complex flavor. It had a little bit of ginger in it, you could definitely taste the ginger, but it did not overwhelm the rest of the porridge. The chicken was good, and for the mushroom, they used black mushrooms, which have a deeper flavor than regular mushrooms. So very good. It looked like a small bowl, but I couldn't finish it. Some came home with me, and it reheated very well. It also came with Chinese donuts to put in the porridge. Chinese donuts are a little bit different. They definitely taste like a doughnut, except they are not sweet at all. They are savory donuts, and are perfect to use as a crouton, so to speak. The green tea was very good, and they didn't overdo it with the lemon, and that hotdog roll that I had later, the pastry was delicious with just a little bit of a "chew" to it, they were definitely high-quality hot dogs, and it wasn't just green onion. They had something mixed in, I'm not sure what it was, but it didn't taste raw like green onion can. Just a great lunch. I'll be back. Thanks.

My boyfriend and I finally had the time to come on a Monday (after the gym lol). We ordered a couple of items to try and I'll tell you I was full after a couple of bites and it carried me for the rest of day. We ordered jalapeño cheddar and classic sausage patty, egg, & cheese biscuit sandwich and biscuit 2 pack: blueberry and brown sugar biscuit. While picking up my boyfriend was recommended the cinnamon roll and he caved and got it! We had our pickup time at 7:30, but we showed up a little early and got our food around 7:20. There was a bit of a wait since there were some people ahead of us, so I'd recommend you going a bit earlier than your time just in case you're in a rush. We headed home to try everything. We really enjoyed the biscuits themselves as they didn't leave a dry or grainy feeling in your mouth. They had a good crust while being airy and light inside. The sandwiches were good, but they were anything crazy. Size wise it is small for the price you get, but I get it. It's all house made and fresh. We definitely think the biscuits themselves are the standout. The blueberry and brown sugar biscuits were a sweet tooth's heaven. The cinnamon roll wasn't too sweet either and had great texture and basically melted in your mouth. I never knew about midtown bakery before midtown biscuits so I would definitely come back to check out their other items, while getting those biscuits!

The iced vanilla lattes were really good. The pastries were the highlight. The almond pain au chocolat was perfectly flaky, and the filling was absolutely delicious. The very berry pastry was my favorite. The cream was light, fresh, and had just the right amount of sweetness, and the fruit on top tasted fresh and sweet. The hash brown bread with ham and cheese was very dense and filling, making it a great savory option. I loved the self-serve pastry setup and appreciated how large the bakery selection was. While some items looked a little fresher than others, there was still plenty to choose from, and everything we picked was delicious. The bakery itself was very clean with plenty of comfortable seating, and I noticed they even offer WiFi, making it a nice place to work, catch up with someone, or just enjoy a coffee. It was fairly busy and a little noisy, but there were still plenty of open seats. Parking was also easy thanks to the large parking lot. The only downside was the service. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but they also weren't especially welcoming. I also had trouble hearing the employee calling out completed drinks, so I ended up waiting around 10 minutes. It's possible our coffees were ready sooner, but I didn't want to crowd the pickup area. Our total came to about $30 for two coffees and three pastries, which felt reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. However, when I bit into my croquette and garlic frank, they were still cold inside. Since I had requested them to be toasted, I expected them to be warm all the way through. I called the store afterward to ask what their standard procedure for toasting items is. The employee I spoke with told me that it "just depends on the worker and how they toast it." That response didn't make sense to me. I would expect there to be a consistent standard for preparing food, especially when a customer specifically requests it to be toasted. the attitude I received came across as very much "I don't care,"
