This company is what wrong with the housing market and what will cause the next house crisis, they are bullies. I'm 37 years old. In almost 20 years of renting in LA, I've never been asked for tax returns -- not even when I bought a property. This is ridiculous. Extremely rude, invasive, and discriminatory. They're clearly looking for any reason to reject people. Complete waste of time. Stay away.

We reported the roof leak over a year before it was fixed. A MacBook pro was damaged amongst other valuable things. We had to sleep in my living room because they didn't want to pay for a hotel room. They said we would be reimbursed if we decided to get one on our own but we didn't trust that. Especially since we were lied to for over a year about when repairs were going to be done to our apartment. Our garbage disposal stopped working and wasn't fixed for months. As a result, we had gnats flying all over our apartment. Disgusting! But that's not the worst thing, we had to sleep in our living rooms from our bedroom being flooded...and they still wanted that months rent, which was over $1800. When we asked to speak directly with the landlord, they said just kept saying that he was unavailable. I feel like this company protects slumlords. You will be reported to the BBB. After looking at a few different firms online, I got good vibes from The Rental Girl (TRG), a boutique real estate agency here in Los Angeles, that also handles apartment searches. I liked the fact that the company is on the smaller side (around 20 or so employees, I believe), so that you really get their full attention. And for me personally, it was also a big plus to support a women-owned business. For apartment searches, they offer a couple of options: 1) You can sign up on their website to access listings on your own. or... 2) They also offer a concierge service, where they take inventory of your specific needs and wants and then do a customized search for you, which includes setting up walk-thrus, handling paperwork, and basically taking charge of all the less-fun aspects of looking for a new apartment. Their concierge service is made up of a team of people who each cover a different area of Los Angeles. For the area I was looking in, I was assigned a terrific, friendly dynamo named Itza Campos. She took great care of me every step of the way, serving as a sounding board (and even a therapist at times, lol) as we considered various apartments, before landing on just the right one. It was a true pleasure working with her and I really can't thank her enough for all the help she gave me! TRG concierge service isn't inexpensive -- it's equal to the price of one month's rent on your new apartment -- but I have to say that I consider it money VERY well-spent. Itza made the whole process fun and basically painless. I would recommend The Rental Girl without hesitation for anyone who wants help in finding the perfect place to live.
