I really wish I could leave two different reviews. I had two different experiences with two The Rental Girl representatives I dealt with.
I will start with the positive experience. I found The Rental Girl site via a reddit forum. I was in middle of looking for apt in the Valley. I was experiencing some challenges finding a place due to recent events that negatively impacted my credit score. Kathleen Suit had a listing in the area I was looking in. The apartment was on the small side, but the location was perfect due to the direct access to the Metro and close proximity to where my mother was staying (I had recently moved my mother to hospice care). Kathleen was very professional and friendly. I was upfront with my situation. I explained in great detail why my credit score was in a free fall and what my plans were to improve it. She was so supportive and appreciative of my "upfront-ness." She guided me on the best approach for application process. She suggested I include other documentation with application. I felt she understood where I was coming from and she went to "bat" for me with owner. She even let me know of second listing the owner had in a different part of town in the event my application was not accepted. Kathleen was responsive and transparent. My application was ultimately turned down on due to my credit score, but I knew she had done everything she could. I thanked her profusely for all her help. Kathleen is definitely a great asset to the The Rental Girl. She suggested I reach out to the TRG Renter Concierge Team to assist me with my apartment search.
At this point where my negative review begins. After my very positive experience with Kathleen, I was upbeat and hopeful the TRG Renter Concierge Team would be able to help out. I reached out to Melanie Moran via email. She responded quickly with a list of questions of what I was looking for in a rental. I responded with my answers, we set up a phone call. Once again, I am upfront with my situation. Melanie reassured me there would not be a problem and she could work with me. She suggested I seek a co-applicant/guarantor. She explained in great detail the Renter Concierge Teams process and fees. I was actually excited to work with Melanie because it was one less headache to deal with. At that point, my mother's home was about to close, her health began to rapidly fade, and I had approaching deadlines at the office. I filled out the exhaustive application and included all supporting documentation. I paid the application fee (this application fee was the 6th one I paid during my rental search, all hard credit hits). My nephew agreed to be my co-applicant/guarantor (he also had to pay an application fee). I let Melanie know both applications had been submitted. She responded quickly letting me know she would review everything then send me a contract to sign. Then.... nothing. No contract, no email, nada, zilch. I gave her a couple of days. I reached out via text message if she needed anything from me as I was eager (and a bit desperate) to find an apartment. No response. A couple days later, I sent Melanie an email asking if there was an issue or if she needed a clarification on something. Nothing, no response. At first, I just shrugged my shoulders and thought, "oh well, I guess she didn't work with me, after all." Now, I am utterly disappointed with her utter lack of professionalism. I am a grown adult. I understood the consequences I created when my credit score took a deep dive. Hence, it was main reason I was transparent from the get go. All I needed was simple text, email or phone call stating a reason why Melanie decided not work with me. Instead, I was "ghosted." Is this the proper way run a business? Collect $40 from two individuals and disappear? Or does Melanie have what it takes be in this business if she can't handle the simple task of rejecting a potential client? Am I being too harsh on Melanie for her lack of professionalism and communication? No, this is the real world. Ultimately, I was able to secure an apartment in the location I wanted to be in. It's not the perfect place but it will do for the next year.
Will I be recommending The Rental Girl in future? At this point, No. What began as a refreshing and lovely experience with Kathleen ended up leaving me with a bitter taste in my mouth, thanks to Melanie. Perhaps, I am a stickler to professionalism, but "ghosting" potential clients should not now nor never be the way to run a business.
Rant Over.
P.S. - thanks again to Kathleen for all her efforts. read more
