The shelf needed some custom trim work done to match the wood stain and overall design. I asked for a "built in" look for the bookshelf given its large size, so it feels like a main feature in the room. From start to finish, Eric exceeded my expectations for the project. He was a pleasure to work with, very responsive to my requests, and fairly priced for the work he did. The fact that he has a design background in addition to carpentry skills set him apart from other woodworkers and "handymen" in the area. (I hate to even throw that handyman term out in relation to Eric because he is truly an artist!!!) The bookshelf repair and custom trim project took a couple of weeks total to complete as he squeezed me into his schedule between larger jobs, but the work turned out perfectly and was totally worth the wait! Eric did some of the work on site at my home (measuring and cutting), but completed other aspects at his own workshop (staining and fine details), before returning to do the final install. Had 3 companies in for estimates. Ray of Light stood out among the crowd. Had a gut feeling I could trust owner, Mina, plus the online reviews were great and I saw a YouTube Video of co-owner Ray and how the work was done. Mina gave me options- painting existing doors vs new doors with paint, I chose the latter for a more updated look. Ray could have done more work to make my refresh even more fabulous but I chose what was most important to me and put a cap on my spend. The experience was professional from start to finish. To start off I measured the floor myself which I highly recommend. My actual square footage was 408, other companies tried telling me 430 & 440!! Then they give you a quote based on that figure. Kevin was eager to earn my business and showed up at the previously agreed upon appt time. He has examples to show you as well. I have a paver driveway and he pointed out that some companies will just acid wash the floor, but that will ruin your paver driveway. Therefore, he decided the best option was to diamond grind it. He can offer custom colors and Since I did not want a full cast of chips he did a medium cast which is harder to do and did not leave any clumps of chips anywhere! It is very balanced. Steps: 1. Acid Wash &/OR Diamond Grind 2. Primer base coat 3. 100% Solid/Solvent Self-Leveling Epoxy 4. Add chips 5. Clear coat My 2 car garage floor took him and his partner 2 days to complete. Kevin was flexible working with the rain we just got as well. Kevin was very pleasant to talk too and I had a great feeling after meeting him that I immediately knew I was going to use him as his prices are some of the best out there! When I had questions, i would just text his iphone and he would text me right back usually within a few minutes. I absolutely love my floor and would highly recommend that if you are already close to putting a deposit down with somebody else that you at least shoot him a text or phone call and ask to meet him at least. All work was done by 1-4 people depending on what was being done. Complaints? Communication. The initial consultation was straightforward and easy. I picked out the base color, the chip colors, and the date. The first day they came and prepped the surface by sanding and using chemicals. They also filled in any cracks and put down the first epoxy coat. I had to leave to go do something and I came back and they were gone with the garage door cracked open. They didn't leave a note or anything such as - don't step on the floor, must dry for 2 days, or anything like that. I had to call them and ask what was going on and when they were coming back. I thought this was kind of odd seeing as how I would think that if this process was going to take multiple days that I should be privy to that knowledge (maybe in case I couldn't be there other days?). Luckily my schedule allowed me to be there for the subsequent days. Day 2 was a second coat and chips... and then they were gone again. Again, with no instructions or follow-up. WTF?! I had to call back again and figure out when they were coming back for the cabinets. Aside from me feeling like I was completely in the dark about what was going on and when it was going on I feel they did a good job. I would suggest them again permitting they made sure to nail down specific instructions and dates/times for the entire process.
