Fowl Stew Chicken ( Poulet a sauce), White Rice ( Diri Blanc), Black bean sauce (Sos pwa nwa), pikliz
    Sandy O.

Today is my first time getting food here. I got the fowl stew chicken (poul du), white rice, black bean sauce (sos pwa nwa), veggie stew mix (legume), fried plantain and "pikliz" (spicy onion sauce). Everything was absolutely delicious except for the pikliz (sorry I've definitely had better). I ate the rice, chicken and bean sauce. I bought the legume just to try it and it tasted great! I will be having this tomorrow with white rice! Of course, I could not eat all this food, which is a fantastic thing. They gave a good amount of food which was above and beyond satisfying. The best part is that this Haitian food definitely reminds me of home! Note that today being a Sunday, I really went for the squash soup (soup joumou), but they were unfortunately all out. Squash soup is a very popular Sunday soup. Call ahead! I will definitely be returning for that soup since the food I ordered was so delicious. I 100% definitely recommend!!

This is a Haitian cuisine restaurant that also makes West Indian food too. It in bad location but the food is worth it.

We are looking to live out east and decided to take the drive to see how the Haitian food was! Honestly, we have tons of Caribbean food in Queens/New Hyde Park area, but Akra was well worth the drive! We ordered the Jerk Chicken with Duriz Djon Djon- 10/10 recommend. The jerk chicken wasn't too spicy, it was juicy and flavorful. They also gave three big pieces! The rice was also well cooked and not too salty. We also ordered Griot with Bannan peze- it's a requirement if you're going to eat at any Haitian establishment. The woman dishing out food out said "this meat is a little dry. Sorry." We ordered it anyway and it turned out to be pretty good! The bannan was a little soggy, but really that's part of ordering takeout for certain food items. Lastly, we bought two bottles of their lemonade and it was delicious! A great balance of sweet and tangy! We would definitely come back!

However, my next two experiences were extremely frustrating. During my boyfriend's early-morning visit, he was initially told there was no food available--even though the restaurant had just opened. Only after insisting did they offer limited options. Most recently, I ordered through Uber Eats and spent about $70. The containers were small and arrived half-filled. When I called to address the issue, the manager explained that because they pay Uber Eats fees, they don't provide full portions for delivery orders. That is not something any customer wants to hear, nor was any solution (like a coupon or replacement) offered. The food at Akra Deli tastes great, but the lack of consistency, poor customer service, and reduced portions for online orders make it hard to recommend. If you do choose to order, I strongly suggest going in person, otherwise you will likely not receive the amount of food you paid for. Overpriced and poor customer service!

It was my first time trying Haitian food and I was surprised at how similar it was to Spanish food. Every plate we ordered was very flavorful and unique in taste. The sauces that came with our dishes were spicy (just how I like it) but so unique in spice too. I could have drank the sauces. There was nothing that we didn't like! The drinks were also simple, very light and yummy - not too sweet. The vibes of the restaurant were also very cute and dimly lit (but not too dim). They gave us the best seat in the house too - the corner window booth with views of the entire floor. It was a perfect date night! Will definitely be coming back and highly recommend if you're looking to eat some delicious Haitian food!

Overall, it was nice to see a Haitian restaurant in Manhattan, but you could definitely get more for your money by going to a Haitian place in Queens or Brooklyn. I probably wouldn't come again.

We visited on a Sunday and were lucky enough to catch Soup Joumou day. The soup was rich, comforting, and full of flavor. I had the beef version and finished every bite. The patties were another standout: flaky, crispy, and juicy. We tried both beef and chicken, and the beef was definitely the favorite. We also ordered black rice with peas, fried plantains, stewed chicken, baked mac and cheese, and griot to go. Everything was made fresh, well-seasoned, and the portions were just right. The drinks were refreshing too, we had the Couronne Fruit Champagne soda and the Ji Sitwon lemonade. One thing to note: food is cooked to order, so it's best not to come in a rush or to call ahead if you're short on time. It was about a 45-minute drive for us, but absolutely worth it. Even the leftovers didn't last long at home. Plenty of parking, great food, and a spot I'll definitely be returning to. If you're looking to try Haitian cuisine or switch things up, Pops & Poosh in Baldwin is well worth a visit.
