The smell as soon as you get out of the car will delight your senses. Definitely old school and comfort. Such a huge selection. Service was immediate with customers arriving and leaving. Brought back childhood memories of going to the bakery.

Ask the Community - New Roma Bakery

Do they have bagels?

I've never seen bagels there for sale.

Does anyone know if they make brownies? If so, how are they?

Delicious brownies. If you do not see brownies on display, just ask. The baker sometimes has them in a safe place in the back.

Do they do photo cakes?

Photo cakes are not available at New Roma Bakery. Classic and traditional cakes are what to be expected.

Walking in, the line was short but the staff took a really long time servicing people. Since it's a 2hr drive from SF to Sac, you know I'm about to bulk buy. The case had a good selection but quite a few were sold out already. Everything looks really delicious but I had to control myself. Almond Croissant $7.50 - I don't remember what this tasted like so it must've been standard. Matcha Croissant $9 - Don't let the price deter you because for $9, you get a big filling croissant and it was honestly so delicious. The dipped part was like a white chocolate matcha and the inside matcha filling was so good. I don't know how but I fridged it and ate it the next day, IT WAS STILL CRISPY! This was the highlight and highly recommend getting it. Blueberry Choux $11 - This was also really good too. The blueberry filling was creamy and delicious. It tasted really fresh. Macarons $2.95 each - Standard stuff. I got a Thai coconut cream and this is a flavor I haven't seen before and recommend trying it! In summary, highly recommend trying this place. It is on the pricier side but if you're like me and don't go to Sac often, I would give this place a try and buy extra!!

I haven't actually tried any of the chocolates yet, although I did end up buying the fall sampler box. It looks beautiful. TBH, the girl working on the counter was really abrasive and impatient with me. I walked up. She asked what she could get for me and I started to say that my mother was coming to town and I wanted to buy her something special and she turned around and started talking to someone else. Then when she turned back around, I asked her about the flavors in the box and then I asked her about the flavors and the other box that was for sale of their regular chocolates. She said that the regular chocolate box comes with a card. I'm like I don't see the card. What are the flavors in here? And then she picks up the box and then starts reading off the back and pointing to the case below to the different varieties. It wasn't what she was saying about how she was doing it, very quick jerky motion, and obviously irritated. I'm sorry, but I'm getting ready to buy a box of chocolates for almost $50 and there's nobody in line behind me. I've never been here before so I need a little help. That kind of place should have better service. Especially if they're going to act like that at the counter and then turn the little iPad around at the end of the transaction where it asks how much gratuity you want to leave. I left $2 which honestly was $2 too much. When we walked outside, my man asked if I thought my mom would like them and I said I hope so. And then I said, I thought that girl was really rude and he said she absolutely was! So not just in my head. If my mother absolutely loves those chocolates, I may return to the business, but otherwise I'll probably skip it.

The iced vanilla lattes were really good. The pastries were the highlight. The almond pain au chocolat was perfectly flaky, and the filling was absolutely delicious. The very berry pastry was my favorite. The cream was light, fresh, and had just the right amount of sweetness, and the fruit on top tasted fresh and sweet. The hash brown bread with ham and cheese was very dense and filling, making it a great savory option. I loved the self-serve pastry setup and appreciated how large the bakery selection was. While some items looked a little fresher than others, there was still plenty to choose from, and everything we picked was delicious. The bakery itself was very clean with plenty of comfortable seating, and I noticed they even offer WiFi, making it a nice place to work, catch up with someone, or just enjoy a coffee. It was fairly busy and a little noisy, but there were still plenty of open seats. Parking was also easy thanks to the large parking lot. The only downside was the service. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but they also weren't especially welcoming. I also had trouble hearing the employee calling out completed drinks, so I ended up waiting around 10 minutes. It's possible our coffees were ready sooner, but I didn't want to crowd the pickup area. Our total came to about $30 for two coffees and three pastries, which felt reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, this was a great first experience, and I'd definitely stop by again the next time I'm craving a coffee and pastry.

However, when I bit into my croquette and garlic frank, they were still cold inside. Since I had requested them to be toasted, I expected them to be warm all the way through. I called the store afterward to ask what their standard procedure for toasting items is. The employee I spoke with told me that it "just depends on the worker and how they toast it." That response didn't make sense to me. I would expect there to be a consistent standard for preparing food, especially when a customer specifically requests it to be toasted. the attitude I received came across as very much "I don't care,"

The service was fantastic from start to finish. We had the chance to chat with Julian himself along with a couple other staff members, and everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. The stars of the meal were definitely the breakfast wrap and the bacon, egg & cheese croissant. The breakfast wrap had the perfect balance of scrambled eggs, bacon, seasoned potatoes, avocado, and cheddar cheese. Everything worked together without any one ingredient overpowering the others, and the salsa on the side was a great addition. Honestly, it's one of the best breakfast burritos/wraps I've had. And the croissant... wow. It was absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the croissant was light, flaky, and buttery, and every bite was packed with flavor. The Nutella crepe was also very good. The crepe itself was perfectly made, though there was a little more Nutella than I personally prefer. Next time I'll probably ask for less, but that's purely a matter of taste. The avocado toast was the only item that didn't quite hit the mark for me. It was good, but the honey flavor dominated the dish and drowned out some of the other ingredients. I'd love to taste a little more balance there. We also spoke with Bailey, was lovely and apparently took the fall on Julian's behalf. I'd also like to note we ordered a cake here last year and visit Julian's restaurant in Folsom about 2x a month so, as I said I'm extremely disappointed. We ordered a cake for my son's birthday. Wanted a jungle theme. I could've gotten past the ugly (and not what we ordered) decorations had the cake not been cracked in multiple places on the bottom tier. I called, let them know it was cracked and they had me talk to the owner, Julian, who went on to blame us, saying this happened during transport. (It didn't, the cake was frozen. You can also see the terrible job icing it at the top proving it was frozen, and that the cake didn't shift in transport as there was no icing or anything on the cake board.) He argued with me, he was exceptionally rude and tried to put the blame on me. Eventually, he agreed to refund me 50% for the cake. When we cut into it, not only was it frozen, (the same tier that was cracked) but it was also not even the correct filling or cake. I'm not sure what happened, but I called to demand a full refund as this cake was not what I ordered, and the arrogant, rude, owner Julian insulted me, saying I was trying to con a small business. Bailey, who was extremely professional and polite, called back to confirm that wasn't what we ordered and to offer us a full refund. Julian is rude, disrespectful and didn't provide what I ordered. When he was called out he insulted me, insulted my intelligence (by telling me the cake wasn't frozen--when it was, as well as tell me I tried to con a small business.) as people who were extremely loyal to his business, I'm disgusted and disappointed and will not be returning. I'd also encourage you to beware of spending your money here, because you may not get what you order, you may but it's a full risk you will have to take. I also refuse to support rude or mean people. Best of luck if you gamble and order here. I wouldn't have nearly been as mad, nor taken the time to write this review had he not been such a jerk. I'll let you make your own assumptions, based on the emails between us and the company, and what we received. Good luck if you choose to order from them!

There was a bit of a wait since there were some people ahead of us, so I'd recommend you going a bit earlier than your time just in case you're in a rush. We headed home to try everything.
