My recent hibachi experience was underwhelming. The rice was undercooked and the vegetables lacked flavor. While it seems like a straightforward dish, it's surprising how often it misses the mark. I'll likely skip this restaurant next time.

Soggy spring rolls and powered miso soup. Look at all that oil on the napkin on the spring rolls.

I often like to go to Pittsboro because I find the small town atmosphere quaint. The last time I went, it got a little too late and most restaurants were closed so I stopped in here on my way back home. When I saw the name "New Japan" I naively thought that this restaurant would be something like new Japanese cuisine that I had in the past, because Pittsboro has been getting interesting places like the Chatham Market. Unfortunately this turned out to be nothing more than Japanese mall food. With a friend we ordered: Appetizers: Spring roll appetizers - Soggy Miso soups - Could taste the powder, definitely from a package Orange roll - Sloppy, bulky, and not great Entree: Teriyaki Chicken & Steak - Low quality doused with too much syrup to disguise taste, Hibachi Chicken & Steak - Low quality dry meat, bad sauces, harder to disguise lame taste *Their "fried rice" is really boiled white rice with a spotty amount of soy sauce on it; nothing "fried" about it.* Prices range from $5.69 for a Hibachi Vegetable, to $9.50 for Hibachi Scallop, however the food is too uninspiring and bland to be worth the cost. Many malls have better Japanese food than this, and supermarket sushi tastes better. On the other hand, a lot of people can't handle authentic foods, and this may be at their threshold of flavor, but that's unlikely with this place. If you love buffet-style food, this may be a good place for you. For everyone else who is looking for something of decent quality, you best look elsewhere.

This is worst than mall hibachi. Much worse. Inside is depressing, food was not good. It's wild that people rate this restaurant well.

Most of them are wearing sweatpants and T-shirts, which is just different; however, they work, and they have employees, which is difficult nowadays. The facilities are extremely clean. They had a good sanitation rating. I cannot recall what it is. The imp important thing to know is if you do not eat all your rolls, they will charge you a dollar per piece that you do not eat, including if you leave the rice when you order sushi. Then they can contribute a portion of that money to the No Child Goes Hungry charity, which I think is pretty cool. I am actually thinking about going there again for dinner tonight, which would be two nights in a row. The total for the sushi, two beers, and a tip was right at $40, which I think is very reasonable.

Mr. Tokyo is a solid choice if you're craving all you can eat sushi. Depending on when you go,…read morethere's usually a wait for a table, but it's hard to beat the value for the price. They have a decent selection of appetizers, nigiri, specialty rolls, and other items, so it's fun being able to try a little bit of everything instead of committing to just a few rolls. The sushi is good for an all you can eat restaurant. I've definitely had better quality sushi elsewhere, but considering how much food you get, I really can't complain. One thing I'd recommend is ordering everything you think you'll want in your first round. There's a 90-minute time limit, and once your initial order comes out, the server doesn't check back very often. They do charge $1 for every leftover piece, but if you're with a group, it's usually not hard to finish everything. If you're just looking to satisfy a sushi craving without breaking the bank, Mr. Tokyo is definitely worth checking out!

I've heard so much about Shinmai Shokudo, and finally got the chance to visit! While this spot does…read moreclassics well, there were some letdowns; however, we had a good experience overall: - Spicy Tan Tan Ramen (Rich pork broth, spicy ground pork, bean sprout, wood ear mushroom, chives, cilantro, green onion, 1/2 seasoned soft-boiled egg, thin straight noodles): Definitely my favorite dish! The broth had great depth, the spice provided a nice kick, loved all the different toppings but I do think there could have been more pork. - Tonkatsu Ramen (Signature rich pork broth, pork belly, bamboo shoot, wood ear mushroom, green onion, 1/2 seasoned soft-boiled egg, thin straight noodles): Same great broth as the tan tan, chashu was perfectly fatty and tender, liked all the toppings again. The noodles themselves didn't really stand out to me. - Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box (Dashimaki, shrimp shumai, salad, pickles, rice, miso soup): Ehh... this was fine, but I'd definitely skip it next time. For the price, the quantity and quality of everything but maybe the chicken (which was smoky but way too sweet) was lackluster. - Chicken Curry Don (Panko breaded chicken cutlet, Japanese-style curry sauce, potato, carrot, onion, nori): The chicken was crispy, but quantity was so small. Curry was tasty, but inadequately warmed. - Raindrop (Plant-based ice jelly, brown sugar syrup, soybean powder): Such a unique dessert- ofc the visual is great, but the texture was interesting and it was subtly sweet too. Ambiance is nice, but the space is pretty small. Service was fast and friendly. There's plentiful parking. 7.5/10 would recommend!

Venue: Small Food: ordered spicyTantan ramen (spicy sesame and pork broth), tonkatsu ramen (pork broth) also ordered salmon and tonkatsu (fried battered pork). The ramen was good. I can't say it was the best I've ever had, but fair. I like the tan tan better than tonkatsu- family who tasted the broth all agreed on this. Was pretty disappointed in tonkatsu. Very thin dry, and small portion with basic sauce. Tonkatsu portion was smallest I've ever seen. Taste very mediocre. Service: twice here. Service is generally slow. Polite staffs but slow. It is a very basic ramen place here. Some will love it and some will want something more special. It's up to you to try!

A nice perk of this spot is that it's just a stone's throw away from free and plentiful lot parking. I'd make a reservation if you plan to come here on a weekend for dinner. The place was bustling, with almost all the tables full. It's bright, airy and modern looking inside. Which makes it the perfect place for a date night or celebration spot. At the same time, it's not stuffy or overly fancy. The menu is comprehensive with Thai favorites like Pad Thai and Pad See Ew with a large number of Japanese and Sushi items on the back. My friends tried the Thai Spicy level and I will say it was pleasantly hot without burning your tongue off. I ordered the bento box and was really happy with the quality of the sashimi and nigiri. Everything was tasty, and the portions were more than satisfying. If I had to make a nit on something that I didn't love (it's hard!), I'd say that the rice texture wasn't my favorite. It was a little dry. But other than that, I would definitely consider it for another night out.

Holy!! We had expectations from all of the recommendations, but what a complete disappointment…read more First let's start with the only positive-- the waitress and her service was perfect. She was so kind and was the absolute best part of our visit. She gave a range recommendations, very professional, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the meal. We are coming from the Irvine, CA area so we VERY familiar with top tier Asian food and possibly that impacted our standards vs others in the review section. Now on to the rest, there were so many flies that I ended up having to smash them on the window with a napkin--just gross! Then, my son's food was not flavored well at all and had HAIR in his noodles! The Pad Thai was really bad! It was a lighter color first of all, so maybe they added an ingredient that isn't standard in traditional Pad Thai, but it did not make it better at all; I could barely stomach it. Then, there was a huge egg shell in the dish that somehow the cook let come out and served to us. The sweet and sour chicken portion was outrageously small for a dinner portion, and the dish was smothered with sauce but somehow the chicken was dry as if it was day old or several days old chicken. The cashew chicken, the same, dry chicken that was being covered up with the sauce and we had to chew a great deal. The sweet tea, it just tasted like they put a bunch of sugar packets in and was worse than a McDonald's sweet tea. Their white rice was not moist at all and we could've just done without it. Out of the sushi we ordered, the spicy tuna was good, but the rest was grocery store quality sushi and extremely small portion. In my opinion, people rave about this place because it is 'different' and plays into an upscale restaurant as you can see with their overpriced items. This place doesn't hold a candle to shopping center Thai fusion in California. I have lived in many states and am not a snotty Californian, but man oh man I can tell you this one is a fail. The only star for this visit goes to the waitress (she was a 5) but if I could give this a zero for the food, I would. Don't waste your time or money.
