I was charged for 4 items totaling $43.77 on 04/26/27 from New Japan. Door Dash picked up the food order but did not deliver. I was home waiting with a guest and noticed the driver turned onto my road but never continued to my address. After waiting a few minutes, I called the driver. She did not answer so I called the restaurant. A complaint was filed for noncompliance as food was not delivered. Refund of credit card charge was denied by door dash. I request a refund. read more

The food is OK, but the ambiance in the store is a bit depressing. Their hibachi dishes are very decent and freshly prepared. But, they serve it in a styrofoam container for dine in customers and on cafeteria trays. The seats look like they're from a Hardee's that closed years ago. I want to support them. First time coming here and I'd come back. No frills but checks all the boxes. Place was clean which is a biggie for me and had a good amount of seating. Food was good and came out quickly. A bit heavy on the onions and zucchini but the teriyaki chicken and shrimp were really good as was the fresh broccoli. Seemed fairly priced for the area. Not really sure why this place gets such bad reviews. It is very good for what it is. I have eaten here about 6 times in the last few months. Staff has always been friendly and helpful and the facility is clean. Food is inexpensive and the portions are generous. We usually get one steak or chicken dinner and one vegetable dinner. Broccoli is fresh while other vegetables are prepared ahead of time. Sauces are available on the side and are interesting without being overpowering. Beef and chicken are both excellent and appear to be freshly-prepared. Great choice for an inexpensive and reasonably healthy meal. read more

I often like to go to Pittsboro because I find the small town atmosphere quaint. The last time I went, it got a little too late and most restaurants were closed so I stopped in here on my way back home. When I saw the name "New Japan" I naively thought that this restaurant would be something like new Japanese cuisine that I had in the past, because Pittsboro has been getting interesting places like the Chatham Market. Unfortunately this turned out to be nothing more than Japanese mall food. With a friend we ordered: Appetizers: Spring roll appetizers - Soggy Miso soups - Could taste the powder, definitely from a package Orange roll - Sloppy, bulky, and not great Entree: Teriyaki Chicken & Steak - Low quality doused with too much syrup to disguise taste, Hibachi Chicken & Steak - Low quality dry meat, bad sauces, harder to disguise lame taste *Their "fried rice" is really boiled white rice with a spotty amount of soy sauce on it; nothing "fried" about it.* Prices range from $5.69 for a Hibachi Vegetable, to $9.50 for Hibachi Scallop, however the food is too uninspiring and bland to be worth the cost. Many malls have better Japanese food than this, and supermarket sushi tastes better. On the other hand, a lot of people can't handle authentic foods, and this may be at their threshold of flavor, but that's unlikely with this place. If you love buffet-style food, this may be a good place for you. For everyone else who is looking for something of decent quality, you best look elsewhere. read more

I really enjoyed this place. It is your typical low end Hibachi place. The food was pretty good, though it could have used some more seasoning. I had the Hibachi Steak and it came with mushrooms, zucchini, and onions, as well as a side of fried rice. Everything was clearly cut up there except for the mushrooms. I think they might have been frozen. I liked the fried rice and the steak, which was well done but not tough. I also got the Crab Rangoon, there were two of them and they came wrapped like spring rolls. I did not like this as it made the ratio of wrapping to filling unbalanced. Well...so many places have used their time wisely during the COVID-19 down time. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them. Their setup right now made me feel as though I was at one of those convenience store that sells single cigarettes. The Health Department is going to love them when they come by and notice that your to-go order sits out in the restaurant on a table w/o any heat lamp for an extended period. From what I could tell from standing in the waiting cell it didn't look like the interior had been spruced up or deep cleaned while closed down. Maybe that's why they aren't letting people inside. Food was ok...not hot(thanks to the holding spot on the tables), and service was (insert barf emoji). Cashier threw my card and receipt down on the dirty table inside the waiting cell for me to retrieve. Still don't see how they can clean the table throughout the day since the table is against the entry doors and there are tables pushed against the doors from the inside as well so that grossed me out even more. I have enjoyed the hibachi style chicken many times here over the past few years, by myself and with my family. I know it is not true hibachi, and vaguely Japanese style, but I like it anyways. Several months ago, the food I purchased was not nearly as tasty, but I thought I would try again. As I entered, the door was duly posted with "mask required to enter" and I was glad they were being conscientious for their customers' safety during this Covid pandemic. However, at least three people entered with me without masks. The customers in line were without masks. The worst part, the counter help had a mask that not covering the nose and was loosely covering the mouth. I asked if it could be pulled up, and operated properly, but the person said "No, it's alright". I figured at that point, if the counter person didn't care about the customer's safety, I was especially concerned that the cooks may not care as well. I left. May not be back for a long time. I have been a loyal customer for New Japan for almost an entire year now. I must say, I have not once been unsatisfied with their services. My food is always prepared quickly and with the quality of an authentic, hibachi taste. The steak is grilled to perfection. The rice is so delightful it's like eating candy. The item I look forward to the most is their white sauce. I use it on everything. Just like the food, the staff is amazing. The cashiers are friendly and always welcome me with a smile. This is my second time coming here. I thought the food and portion size was decent for the price. I had the hibachi chicken and crab Rangoon. The crab was different as it is prepared like a spring role. I thought it was tasty especially with the white sauce over top. Would definitely go again. I love this place! Wing, the owner, is a sweetheart. They cook your food super fresh exactly how you want it. The true test is shrimp, IMHO, and the hibachi shrimp is super perfectly cooked. I could eat there every day for lunch! Their sauces are divine, and I like the ginger sauce and yum yum sauce equally. The hibachi chicken was something my super picky husband actually liked! Not a ton of choices and thought this may be better than the McDonalds or Taco Bell nearby. Wrong! We have eaten at many places, however this tops the list as one of the worst.
