    Chicken Tikka
    Kathryn P.

Chicken Tikka - The chicken was really tender and the dish had a good flavor overall. I like the lemon that was added to the dish. The onions and peppers were cooked well. It was a good amount of chicken for the price, too! Will definitely be ordering again Garlic Naan - Little on the dryer side but the flavor made up for it! Will order again with my meals. I might try a different flavor next time! Butter Chicken - This came with a ton of rice which was very moist and tasty. The dish came with a good amount of chicken. I got spice level 3 and I wish it was a bit more flavorful, but since it was my first time here, I didn't want to over do it! Overall, I thought the dish was good. I will order it again, but I might try something else on the menu first! Overall - Really nice place for pick up. I came in and they had my order ready early. The workers were all nice and friendly. Good had good portions and it was all white meat chicken which is something that I enjoy! Will definitely come back!

I had their food for the first time earlier this week and it was so good I had to order it again today! The flavors are so bold and I can taste all the seasonings. The spice level I feel is adequate and seasoned to level well. The rice is so fluffy and buttery. The owners are so kind which made me want to order from them again. This is not a dine in restaurant it's take out only.

Excellent Indian takeout spot in Moneroville. There is a decent number of other options in the area (Mintt, Udipi, India Garden, etc) but I settled on New India Garden because of their enticing prices. I tried the channa masala, paneer kulcha, samosas, and gulab jamun. The channa masala (chickpea curry) is one of the best I've had in Pittsburgh (not #1, but probably top 3 or 4). It's got lots of flavor for a mildly spiced curry and there are plenty of chickpeas. Nice slight sweetness and lots of savory goodness. It is also not too oily. Whole chunks of tomatoes can be found throughout, which I appreciate. The dish is served with 8 oz of rice, and that's a decently big portion. The samosas were huge. There are two pieces and they are served with a green minty chutney and an amazing sweet red sauce. It tastes a bit like plum and pomegranate and seems to have real seeds or something along those lines in it. The samosas are well stuffed, adequately spiced, and are quite crispy. I've never had paneer kulcha, and I wasn't sure what to expect from it. At first, it seemed like a regular naan bread. But when you open it up, you see all the delicious Indian cheese stuffed inside. There's not a whole lot of it, but just enough to give it some unique flavor. There are also some greens served on top of the bread and inside it too (cilantro and green onions I think). Not too salty and once again excellent portion since you get 2 pieces in an order. Finally, they have some incredible gulab jamun. They gave me 2 huge pieces for just $3. That's an excellent deal, since I know some places charge $5-6 for the same amount. Fair amount of syrup too. Very, very good. All in all, I highly recommend this spot. The food is not only extremely affordable, but it's also delicious and served in great portions. It may be takeout only, but New India Grill can compete with (and even provide higher quality food than) much larger sit-down Indian places in Pittsburgh.

Definitely quality ingredients (and I'm betting they use cashew flour as a thickening agent)! The restaraunt is very clean. I would give the food a 4 out of 5. My daughter liked her rice, and honestly, had it not been for the required Emergency Room visit, she would have gave the place a 3!

India Garden is now the last surviving authentic North Indian Punjabi restaurant in Pittsburgh. Don't get me wrong--there are many fantastic Indian restaurants in Pittsburgh. But after the change of ownership of Taj Mahal (in Pittsburgh & Bridgeville, PA), most other restaurants are purveyors of non-Punjabi Indian food (eg Gujarati Indian, Udipi South Indian, Goan Indian, Bengali Indian etc.) The only Indian restaurant that features a North Indian Punjabi chef (the aforementioned husband-wife duo) is India Garden. I recommend all their breads, especially the tava-cooked Aloo Paratha and Plain Paratha. Make sure you ask for the Paratha to be cooked on Tava (Indian pan) and not the Tandoor oven. I find all their naans delicious but my favorites are the their butter naan & garlic naan. Their chicken reshmi kabab appetizer is especially noteworthy. They serve it on an aesthetically pleasing bed of vegetables including peppers. But that only tends to distract from the tenderness & flavoring of the kebab meat. Their sarson-ka-saag (mix of mustard leaves with other leafy veggies) is simply outstanding. Pair it with the plain paratha or Makki-ki-roti (Punjabi flatbread made from finely ground corn flour). And ask for their home-made butter on the side. Unlike other Indian restaurants they provide Indian pickle either free (with paratha) or at a nominal charge. One other pairing we like is their version of Indian scrambled eggs (Bhurji) with Plain Paratha. Other reviewers have favorably reviewed their other dishes (chicken, lamb etc). And I agree wholeheartedly: they are all delicious. As for Ambiance: it's quite acceptable. What makes this restaurant stand out is the freshness of ingredients and above all, the love with which the food is made. You taste that love with every morsel you eat. Kudos to the owners for maintaining the high standards of Indian flavors & freshness in their food. Oh, and by the way, the Indian pickle they serve is also house made and not out of a jar bought at some Indian grocery store. And if you new to Indian food, feel free to ask the owners for advice. They won't steer you wrong.

this is a long overdue review for my favorite indian restaurant in the city (and possibly my…read morefavorite restaurant of all). i eat here almost every week, but keep forgetting to leave a rating. time to fix that :) bombay to burgh is an amazing restaurant. it's always delicious, with food that tastes fresh and perfectly balanced. as a fan of indian food, i love how the menu isn't stuck on the classic dishes that you find in every indian restaurant in the US. sure, you'll find butter chicken, tikka masala, palak paneer, naan, and biryani, and they are all very delicious! but there are also dishes like bagara eggplants (described by the menu as "spice stuffed baby eggplants in a roasted peanut, sesame, poppy seeds and coriander gravy, finished with tamarind and coconut") and chicken xacuti (described as "a classic, aromatic chicken curry from the coastal region of Goa, India, known for its complex blend of freshly roasted spices, toasted coconut, and tamarind for a tangy balance"). i ordered both of these tonight and can vouch that they are extremely tasty and worthy of your attention. personally, my only struggle here is that literally every item on the menu looks delicious, and i hate having to choose! which brings me to my favorite part of this restaurant: sunday buffet. now, the food is wonderful every day of the week. i just ordered some tonight myself, so i definitely recommend it. that said, my absolute favorite time to come is for the buffet on sunday. i think buffets get a bad reputation for being all about quantity over quality and for having an unpleasant atmosphere (the passive aggressive "don't waste food" signs that most have don't help, either). sadly, these complaints are true of most buffets. bombay to burgh is a wonderful contrast and, in my opinion, does buffets the way they ought to be. the atmosphere is pleasant (no signs!) and you're likely to see many regular customers. there's a good chance you'll even be greeted by the very owner, G, and get to speak with him a bit! the staff is all very friendly and helpful, always doing their best to make sure you enjoy your visit. they are always happy to help if food needs to be refilled at the buffet or if you want to order anything. finally, and most importantly of all, the food is amazing! unlike most buffets, bombay to burgh only puts out a limited number of offerings: 2 appetizers, 2 meat entrees, 2 vegetarian entrees, 1 bread, 1 rice, 1 dessert, and 1 beverage. i think this is the perfect number to ensure there's both variety and quality. plus, you can actually try a little bit of everything, which usually isn't possible at giant buffets. my favorite part is that every week brings new food, which is now usually themed around a certain region of india. you know they'll always have reliable butter chicken and garlic naan to make you happy, but the rest of the buffet might be dishes you've never eaten before. it's a perfect way to explore different flavors and new food, without worrying you'll waste your money. eating out is a bit pricey anywhere these days, but i personally think that the buffet is still very affordable. have you seen the price of appetizers recently? just the fact that you can choose from two of those with your meal makes it a good deal to me! i feel very fortunate that i get the chance to eat here regularly. while i've loved indian food for over 20 years at this point, bombay to burgh has taken my appreciation to a whole new level and has me researching more food to cook myself. it's a wonderful place to eat!
