Had the Chicken Karahi (5/10 spice level) and it was perfect- just spicy enough. Sesame naan also great.

If I could give this wife-husband run restaurant more than 5 stars, I would. I have eaten there…read moreabout 4 or 5 times in the last six months & have never been disappointed. India Garden is now the last surviving authentic North Indian Punjabi restaurant in Pittsburgh. Don't get me wrong--there are many fantastic Indian restaurants in Pittsburgh. But after the change of ownership of Taj Mahal (in Pittsburgh & Bridgeville, PA), most other restaurants are purveyors of non-Punjabi Indian food (eg Gujarati Indian, Udipi South Indian, Goan Indian, Bengali Indian etc.) The only Indian restaurant that features a North Indian Punjabi chef (the aforementioned husband-wife duo) is India Garden. I recommend all their breads, especially the tava-cooked Aloo Paratha and Plain Paratha. Make sure you ask for the Paratha to be cooked on Tava (Indian pan) and not the Tandoor oven. I find all their naans delicious but my favorites are the their butter naan & garlic naan. Their chicken reshmi kabab appetizer is especially noteworthy. They serve it on an aesthetically pleasing bed of vegetables including peppers. But that only tends to distract from the tenderness & flavoring of the kebab meat. Their sarson-ka-saag (mix of mustard leaves with other leafy veggies) is simply outstanding. Pair it with the plain paratha or Makki-ki-roti (Punjabi flatbread made from finely ground corn flour). And ask for their home-made butter on the side. Unlike other Indian restaurants they provide Indian pickle either free (with paratha) or at a nominal charge. One other pairing we like is their version of Indian scrambled eggs (Bhurji) with Plain Paratha. Other reviewers have favorably reviewed their other dishes (chicken, lamb etc). And I agree wholeheartedly: they are all delicious. As for Ambiance: it's quite acceptable. What makes this restaurant stand out is the freshness of ingredients and above all, the love with which the food is made. You taste that love with every morsel you eat. Kudos to the owners for maintaining the high standards of Indian flavors & freshness in their food. Oh, and by the way, the Indian pickle they serve is also house made and not out of a jar bought at some Indian grocery store. And if you new to Indian food, feel free to ask the owners for advice. They won't steer you wrong.

I love the food. Absolutely delicious and their garlic naan, perfect. I had a lamb dish I think it…read morewas called Rogan Josh or something. I got a spice level seven and that was perfect. Just enough to taste the spice without it burning you. My friend got spice level five and didn't taste anything spicy. I also had the mango lassi which was great. The restaurant is located on a strip mall. Nothing fancy. The bathroom was clean. The tables are super weird. It's all booths and the booth is movable but it's attached to the booth/seat behind you if that makes sense. So if you move your booth forward, you are moving the person's chair behind you backward. it was an uncomfortable set up but at least the food was delicious.

You can also see right into the kitchen and watch them freshly make your order. We got the samosas chaat which was so full of flavors and delicious. We also got the butter chicken bowl and spicy chicken wrap. The butter chicken bowl had to be my favorite and the spicy chicken wrap was also great, we were just not ready for the spice haha Overall, great spot with a casual and modern atmosphere. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well. Definitely a spot to visit for a quick bite

I was struggling a little with the self-service kiosk, and before I even had to ask, Randy noticed and immediately jumped in to help. That kind of attentiveness is rare and honestly made the whole experience better. Food-wise, everything was fresh, colorful, flavorful, and customizable. The butter chicken was rich and comforting with just the right amount of spice. The lamb and paneer salad loaded with toppings was filling and packed with flavor and texture. The naan with dipping extra sauce on the side was perfect for sharing, the mango lassi was smooth, easy to drink (I have had some that was too too thick) and refreshing. the samosa chaat brought a great mix of crunch, spice, and sweetness. Really impressed. My only disappointment is that I waited so long to try it. Great food is one thing, but great food with outstanding service is what makes people come back!!

Yum! This place came up in my suggestions on Yelp and I am so glad that it did!…read more This is a "build your own" style restaurant like Chipotle or Moe's but with delicious Indian food. There was an appetizer that I had never heard of or tried before, so I wanted to try it (similar to a pani puri). I was ordering for takeout, but they said if I wanted this I really should eat it in house immediately because the shell would get soggy and not be as good. I appreciate the tip because I would not have otherwise known that. And I am so glad I ordered it because it was delicious! The combination of the sauces with the shell and contents was a flavor blast. Definitely something I will order again. For the bowl, I did a build your own. They also have pre-designed bowls that might help if you are feeling overwhelmed with the choices. I made mine with white rice, paneer tikka, tiki masala sauce and several of the toppings. The portions were generous and they answered my questions about ingredients and let me sample sauces while I was making my decisions. When I thought about adding something that sounded good, they advised me against it saying it wouldn't work together with what I had already put in (but weren't pushy about it). I appreciated the feedback. The bowl was delicious and filling. I enjoyed every single bite and it was the kind of meal where I was actually sad when it was gone because I enjoyed it that much. I'm not in the Robinson area that often, but I would definitely come back any time I'm around.

The service was good and food is delicious. It's counter service, so it's very casual. We will…read moredefinitely return.

Today I was on bus 54 returning from the Science Center ordering on my phone and trying to beat Salem's 1pm to 2 pm Friday prayers. I ordered 2 hot large meals, both the same. Was going for a 12 and 6 oz of Chilli Chicken and 6 oz of paneer but actually ordered 12 oz of chillies chicken, the paneer and 6 oz of chicken gyro. Sometimes mistakes are good. That chicken gyro meat was great and very tasty. We shared 6 oz of it over rice and still were too stuffed. One suggestion. If you do carryout, BRING YOUR OWN BAG. They pack it up but half the time it leaks. But on a very pleasant note, when we were waiting for Bus 54 to go home, a very nice young man stopped, noticed us, rolled down his window and gave us a bunch of paper towels. I LOVE THIS TOWN.

I found a staple in my food tonight. Thankfully my tongue caught it before anything worse happened…read more For context, my toddler and I were sharing the plate. Like any parent, my first thought was: what if my son had swallowed that? I brought the staple with me and spoke with a manager at Salem. The response I received was incredibly disappointing. The only thing offered was a drink. No real concern, no meaningful response -- just a quick attempt to move past it. It left a really bad taste in my mouth, and not just because of the staple. Please be careful eating here.
