I went to New Happy Feet today with a friend after purchasing Groupons for a 30 minute foot massage. We arrived and their were two employees, and man and a woman, neither of which spoke English. The man reeked of cigarettes, as he had just come inside after having a cigarette. The woman, not knowing what to do, made a call to someone, as she clearly did not know what I was saying. After we signed in on the "Groupon" list, We were accommodated and our "massage" begun.
I already knew what to expect, as I had read the reviews before going. We were presented with bowls of water to soak our feet in, and which lasted about 5 minutes. There were what appeared to be tea bags in the water, however, no detectable scents of herbs were noted. The "therapist" then began our Vaseline foot "massages", which for me, was interrupted when a customer came in and the "therapist" tended to her. The customer wanted to buy a gift certificate for a friend and the woman did not understand one word the girl was saying, to which the girl asked "where is the girl that I spoke to when I called?", yet the phone never rang, so clearly the phone number rings to a person fielding phone calls offsite. Needless to say, the girl left without making a purchase. About 10 minutes later, my "massage" was interrupted again when the next appointment came in and were accommodated, all before my "massage" was completed. The "therapist" quickly wrapped up my service as she had new customers to attend to. We gathered our belongings and left tips on the ottoman before we left the room.
As we were about to exit the store, the "therapist" handed me a sheet of paper which I thought was a list of services they offer for a future visit. After quickly looking at the top of the page, I noticed it was a tip suggestion sheet. The woman then proceeded to say something, which we did not understand and then she proceeded to make a phone call (probably to whomever it is that field s the calls for this place). Clearly, she was asking us where their tips were!! Just then, the man came out of the back room and showed her the money we had left behind and then she let us leave. Unbelievable! I have never in my life had anyone demand a tip from me!
Needless to say, we will not be returning. I would suggest just going and getting a pedicure. You'll get an actual foot AND leg massage (without the sticky Vaseline!), AND sit in a massage chair and get a real back rub, AND get your toes done too...all for the same price that they are charging here.
