I love this place it's my go to when I need a massage. $90 for 90 min and I usually bring cash but this time I used my card (paid $95.96). I normally bring a $100 bill and just give that and tell them to keep the change as tip. I took one star off because when I was checking out today I wrote $10 as the tip (which I always do) and the guy, who I think is the owner possibly, looked at me weird and tried to tell me how much a 90 min massage SHOULD be tipped. I don't appreciate that. As someone who's worked as a server, you should NOT tell your customers how much they have to tip and make them feel bad for not tipping what you expect. It just didn't feel nice. The only reason I will keep coming back to this place despite this is because the massage itself is AMAZING. Other than that one time moment, I love this place. Today I had Chunli (i'm sorry if I spelled that wrong) and she was AMAZING. She would check in with me and ask me if I'm okay throughout the session which I appreciated. She hit all the points of my body that really needed attention and it's like she just knew which parts needed extra attention. It was fantastic and I feel so much better afterwards. They use hot stones and a hot towel during the session. The area is very clean and when you enter they give you slides to wear when you walk in. They play calming music in the rooms which is nice. On weekdays (mon-thurs) I've been able to walk in and they can take me. Today is Friday and I had to come in at a certain time for them to take me, so it would be smart to call ahead of time and ask if you can walk in or if you need an appointment. Overall, this place is still a solid go-to for me because the massages are consistently incredible and worth it. One uncomfortable checkout interaction knocked off a star, but the quality of the service keeps me coming back. read more

When I moved away from NYC I was worried about having to commute into the city to get my deep tissue massage, but luckily I found this place! The area is really cute too, Somerville on Main Street has a bunch of places you can eat and walk around. I digress, the massage place, it's clean, no frills, legitimate massage place. I always get the the deep tissue Asian style, where they focus on acupressure points. It's not the most comfortable because they are working out the knots, but that's not on them, that's on me cause I'm terrible with stretching and stressed out all the time lol. Make sure that you communicate to your masseuse how much pressure you want or not, they can easily change this up based on your needs. Personally I like a very deep tissue, I can hear the knots being worked on, sounds almost like clicking, and the hot towel treatments are great too! My first experience was promising. This time around was a bit disappointing. I think there is a new guy who was hired. They suggested that I try a "man" as it would be a "better massage." I've had many massages before and this one felt very disorganized and felt off in terms of pressure. Then they switched off in between massages-- it ended up with a more experienced lady. At the end when I went to pay, I ended up giving a 15% tip. I gave a 20% tip prior but this was not a good one at all. I honestly did not want to even give a tip at all-- it was one of the worst massages I've gotten. But I thought that I should be nice as this is their livelihood and that it is the holidays. I had the card stamped where if you get 10, you'll get the 11th free. But then the lady who I believe was the owner then commented on my tip as "that's it?" She then proceeded to say that they can't honor the 11th free one any more, and that it would end at the end of the year. Regardless, I was a bit disappointed and was put off. I remember coming here a few times when they were so busy, the owner called her friend Gui Ying to come down from her own spa in Highland Park to help out. The environment is clean and the masseuses are professional and take pride in delivering a deep pressure therapeutic massage. They can also give you a pressure point massage as well. I don't like writing reviews but I had one of the worst massages ever. Started off ok and then quickly went downhill. First, the room has thin walls causing loud music from next door to be in your ear. Second, the pace of the massage was very rushed and lacked attention to detail (elbow pressure missing its intended spot and instead went directly onto my spine.) Also, she left the room a few times - once to attend to a walk-in customer and another time to shout out instructions to someone in the back. She didn't bother making up the lost time. This place is amazing value - $50 for a 60 minute massage! (if you pay cash, that is) I have notoriously tense shoulders, and my masseuse worked out my knots from a particularly stressful week. She made sure to ask whether the pressure was alright, and she was very responsive to my feedback. My only regret is not going to them more during my time in the area. She could feel which muscles needed help...was sensitive to what level of firmness I wanted...although from China her English is very qood (14 yrs in the U.S.). The facilities were good. Price at $50 is reasonable. Note to first timers...these ladies typically work for just tips. Don't tip 15%, but rather $10 is you're basically and $20 if delighted. I was very tense and my back was hurting before I went in and she took out the knots, she went over them like 10 times, so she knew what she was doing and didn't just skip past it. The best part is that she asked if I wanted medium or hard pressure! I said medium because I'm small, and it hurt but it felt good at the end ! So that's good! I went here with my boyfriend last night, it was his first massage so I was really excited for him. I was disappointed to find that each massage room does not have an actual door, but a curtain, so noise carries when people are talking or walking in. Overall I found the massages to be "ok" - teh music was not therapeutic but was soft and not disruptive. The bed and sheet looked clean, the masseuse's were both very pleasant though nether spoke a lot of English (not a problem for a massage!) but minor commands like when to roll over etc, were harder and took away from the overall experience. Some elements of the massage were great and very relaxing, and some were cringe-worthy painful. My boyfriend had to ask the masseuse to go softer at one point because he was so uncomfortable. I was very unhappy with my massage today at Sunrise. I made appointments for a friend and I for 2:00 pm. We arrived at 1:55 pm to be told the appointments were set for 6:00 pm. She said we could come back at 3:00 pm. We came back at 3:00 pm and requested several times to have a 1 hour body massage and a 1/2 hour of reflexology a total of 90 minutes. During the massage the person doing the massage answered the phone 3 times and stopped the massage to greet someone that walked through the front door. We did not receive a half hour of reflexology. Absolutely Fantastic. I am no stranger to massage parlors & I have to say, Sunrise Massage Therapy is the real deal. Lei Lei, who I now call my massage therapist was quick to determine & address other part's of my body that are strained that take the slack of past injuries. In that 1st session I found myself safe & comfortable with her. However she has to position herself to get to "that muscle or joint that eases the pain & tension" is fine by me. She is definitely a professional masseuse with one goal in mind that is to make clients feel at ease & to receive the relief we came for. I never feel gipped, I get my complete 1hr. If the phone rings or she has to step away I'm ok with that. I get my complete hour. After 4 sessions, I feel as though my body is aligned, I'm more calm, I breathe better, & more energy to.
