Bland bland bland. All tasted the same & not good. Couldn't even finish my plate, felt like I was chewing different textures with all the same flavor! Shrimp, chicken, rice, noodles, veggies & egg roll all tasted the same & it wasn't good! It's cheap but why do that to your mouth? Like they cooked any flavor out of all the food.. do they steam everything in the same place or something? Gross. Plus all these nasty clumps of jarred chopped garlic... store bought explains some of the lack of flavor. White sauce tasted the same as just like flour with stock? Yuck, ewwww! My tastebuds are wondering where the flavor went? It was like I know what foods are supposed to taste like but bite after bite nothing had a flavor! I love cheap Chinese food, however, New Golden China seems to take the "cheap" concept a bit too far... The food is actually on par with some other truly cut-rate Chinese joints I have experienced in the past in the sense that there really isn't any quality or consistency to be had. Menu options are extremely standard fast-food Chinese fare (orange chicken, mongolian beef, etc.). But, the veggies aren't fresh, the soups taste like liquid filler and meat products used in their dishes are highly questionable at best (i.e. beef doesn't look or taste like beef, chicken doesn't resemble chicken, etc.). According to the hand-written stickers on the back of their menus, New Golden China now uses something called "chicken powder" in their food. When I questioned the owners repeatedly about this, it was explained to me that it serves the same purpose as MSG, in that it mentally "enhances" the flavor of their extremely low quality food, while also acting as a filler, so smaller portions fill you up faster! Well, I don't know how you get powder out of a chicken, but you are certain to get plenty of it when you eat here! Though I don't have any real negative comments aside from hinting at the questionable cleanliness of the kitchen (and sometimes staff) or the unexplainable 60-minute wait for a single dish when you're the only one in the restaurant, I really can't find much positive to say, either. Most people will find that it's very easy to spend too much here for what you get in return, especially if you are feeding more than just one or two people. If you're really in the mood for cheap Chinese, there are several other places in the immediate area that offer much better quality food for just a little more money. read more

I was in such a mood for Chinese food. For the first time I decided to try this place with awful reviews to give them the benefit of the doubt. This place is as bad as the reviews put it! DONT DINE IN or OUT. Service is awful, It was my first time there and I was rushed to make a decision. I wasn't told my food that I had been waiting for 30 mins plus was ready. The server lady was telling people they couldn't change their minds and other people that they were confused on what they ordered even though she was wrong. She didn't apologize she went and gave food to the right people. I will never come back. Food was definitely awfully bland. Even the orange chicken which smelled delicious was bland. Awesome, genuine Chinese food! People who are used to a bunch of artificial junk in their food might not like this place though, as the food all tastes like it should, without all aforementioned artificial junk. The food all has it's own proper taste, and does not all taste like grease, like many other Chinese places I have eaten. The whole staff is very nice and welcoming, and make you feel at ease. You will be greeted with smiles here. Take note, they have a huge menu here, so it may take some time to decide if you don't want to order your usual Chinese meal and want to try something new. All the ingredients they use taste very fresh, and almost like eating a homemade Chinese meal. The place is clean and well staffed, and the food was cooked promptly and required less wait than was expected of a place such as this one that actually prepares their food fresh. You get a lot of food for an excellent price. This is definitely where I will be going from now on for Chinese food! I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Chinese food! read more

Me and my husband have been coming here for a few years. The food is OK reasonable prices. Tonight is our last night coming here. The waitress is very rude and when I'm trying to order I want what I always get. Which is kung pao chicken she tries to order something else for me. Then they never come and refill your drinks plus you can't understand half of the words that they say. We thought it would change but every time we go back its the same. We sure didn't leave her a tip. Don't recommend this place anymore. I live with two other people and we always order from here, its a great place for cheap food that delivers. Now we generally always get the orange chicken combos. Today I am very very disappointed to say that when I got my food, and started to eat, my food was so soggy. Immediately I turned to my roommate and asked if hers tasted funny, she then told me it did and that it was soggy and gross. I told her I was going to call the place because this is to gross to even eat. When I called I explained that I wasn't trying to make a big deal, that I order from here all the time but this time my food was really soggy and must have been sitting, she was SO rude to me. This lady told me that " yeah, that's what happens with delivery, that's why you order it on the side. Okay?" First off, the place is actually called, "New Golden China", and don't waste your time here! They never actually have anyone that speaks clear or decent English taking orders. Though I suppose if you're looking for that extreme authenticity in Chinese food. . . Anyway, on top of that, out of the three times we've ordered from there, the food is only ok and tends to be on the greasy side. Then, this last time we ordered, we were promised that the food would arrive in 45 minutes to an hour. It arrived almost 90 minutes after it was ordered, and was completely someone else's order! Our choices at that point, promised from the Mgr was too get it completely remade, which would take another 45 minutes to an hour! So was able to convey with the partially literate employee that I did not want that and had to argue to get a full refund, which I did finally get. read more

Had an event planed and called in a LAST minute order. (and by last minute I mean it was a few hours away.) They were able to not only make a catering size dish for me but they also only charged me $5 for the whole thing! The woman I spoke with was very kind and told me she would be happy to do this again for me. The meal was a HIT and was all gone before the event was even over. The food was great! My husband and I ordered the sesame chicken and teriyaki chicken combos with fried rice. Everything was delicious. The egg drop soup was extremely flavorful. The only issues I had with it was our pork lo-mein. Normally we get ours with mushroom, broccoli, and garlic. I pay extra for more veggies then ask for the modification. The only part they modified for us was the garlic. It was almost too garlicky to enjoy. Also, the delivery took an hour and a half instead of the 45 minutes that they estimated. We have ordered for delivery from this restaurant several times. 90% of the time, something is wrong - one duck sauce for 3 egg rolls. forgetting either the soup with a combination dinner or the chips( that we PAY for) are not sent with the order - just to name a few things. We've called to try and rectify the problems - "okay, okay, we give you credit", "oh no, that not on your order"- excuses too numerous to mention, and any promises to make things right conveniently forgotten! Unfortunately, there is no other Chinese restaurant close enough to deliver. We could understand once or twice, but they just don't give a rat's behind! Unless you have the patience of Job, don't waste your time either phoning or going there - the second time we went in, a couple with a little dog -their pet - came in in and it sat at the table and ate - nothing was ever said! Second review of this place and I still love it. Great lunch special prices and the Mongolian beef is the best. And Chinese restaurants that deliver are hard to find in Arizona, so they get points for that. They were completely packed when we went in, but we were still served promptly. However, I noted that they are hiring and they may have been slightly understaffed. So, if you go in soon, cut them a little slack if you have to wait slightly longer than usual. They are still quick, but would be more so if they hire another server that they are looking for. read more

I was waiting for them to call to take my payment (per website), estimated time:45 minutes. This place has really gone downhill. Golden China used to be my go-to for Chinese food in AJ but the quality and service are bad bad bad right now. Tired this place out over the weekend. Overall impression was the food was bland and flavorless. You literally could mix one dish with the next and it all tasted the same. I actually had to use salt to get any flavor, and that's never a good sign when you have to do that with Chinese food. My biggest complaint would be with the Egg Foo Young. I realize it's not a traditional Chinese dish, and only something indigenous to American-Chinese Cuisine; nevertheless, I grew up with Egg Foo Young and I'm tired of so many places doing it wrong! If you're a fan of this tasty dish, then you'll know what I'm talking about. This is one of those places that covers all the ingredients on the top of the egg patties, which is the lazy, wrong way to make it. Good Egg Foo Young comes with the ingredients INSIDE the patty, then a light brown gravy over the top. These guys obviously use a prepackaged egg patty - tasted like it had been frozen - then pour ingredients over the top with a dark, sweet gravy (wrong gravy type, too). Needless to say, I'm probably never going to visit this place again; unless it's the last place on earth and I'm literally starving. read more

Used to be my go-to chinese place when I lived in AJ and I visited there last night after being gone 3 years and glad to say the food is still great. Love their honey walnut chicken (but I did notice the sauce was a bit different, not quite as sweet as it was but still good.) Service is always good, but when the blue hairs come in during the fall it gets very busy so expect service to be slow. Great value and yummy food! =) read more

I agree with many on here that this place used to be great. Half the time when you phone in an order, you feel extremely rushed (although they are never slammed when you are in there). If you done in, their servers seem like they can't wait to cast you aside so they can go back to the booth they are screwing around in with other servers or on their phones. The food I think is a little better than many on here, but it has been slowly going down hill. They do reliever and they are fast, that is a plus. I would probably give them a zero for service. 2 stars for the food, but that isn't the main reason I stopped going. I was picking up an order and and saw the door open to their kitchen area and it looked extremely dirty. It looked so disorganized and nasty. After reading other reviews collaborating cleanliness concerns, this verified it so I will not eat there. Better off driving down Apache to Lotus Chinese restaurant. Ate takeout from here tonight.. Kung pow combo was lacking flavor, no spice at all. Lo mien chicken was over cooked noodles with chewy chicken. Chicken fried rice was edible, minus the chewy chicken. Also ordered crab puffs, which were cold in the middle. Walked in to order and brought the food home to eat. Took over 30 minutes to receive our food. They were not very busy inside either.. Overall, very disappointed in food and service.. It's really bad when you are thinking that Panda Express would have been a better choice for dinner. She either rushes and interrupts me or just hands the phone to somone else without telling me. When I show up to get my food she acts distracted and disinterested. My husband and I have been SO disappointed in the service AND the food. We like to order an x-tra rice with our regular dinner, and if the young people are there working , they get our order right. We order extra rice and pay extra. If it's the older folks especially the older lady - she goes out of her way to mess up our order. EVERY TIME.
