The staff were organized in directing various groups around the day making for little down time between games. You can purchase a painters suit to keep your clothes (mostly) clean, but the paint truly does wash off easily - and this is coming from someone who was really worried my runners would be ruined! You have to bring your own protective gear if you have any - they obviously provide eye wear/masks. Also, there's nothing to eat around here, but you have the option to order pizza with some of your packages. The 1st course consist of a "defend the fortress" setup with an actual concrete base in the middle of the forest (this was my favourite). One group starts in the fortress while the second group starts at the top of the hill and needs to rush down it. The 2nd course was another asymmetrical setup in a tight playgroun with different huts, fortress and objects to move about in. This was often one of the most tense ones because you were in such close quarters. Finally, the 3rd course was the "speed course" of a symmetrical field of inflatable objects. This was the one that seemed to draw the hardcore paint ballers - you know, the guys who brought their own paint ball guns, colour-coordinated body armour, and extra paint ball cartridges they could reload with on the field. I suppose this is as real life to a FPS as you're gonna get! Finally, not sure where else to mention this, but there seemed to be a very small gun range adjacent to the grounds (i.e., only one shooter at a time), which I found odd, and sometimes unnerving whenever you heard live rounds go off in the middle of your game.

Since it was my first time, I was a little intimidated when I saw some serious players came dressed in camouflage suits and carried their own gear. Thank god those pros were playing in an exclusive tournament that day *phew* At the check-in tables, we signed our waivers and purchased our rental equipment. The staff were not particularly welcoming but they were efficient and strict about safety (a good thing). There was no pressure to purchase upgrades or additional equipment. We each got the $55 deluxe package anyway: tippman A-5 gun (with higher rate of fire), 500 rounds of ammo, and an ammo waist pouch. All packages came with unlimited air fills and a full-face goggle mask. Equipment was decent quality - a couple guns malfunctioned, which were replaced immediately. The masks also became foggy and itchy after a few games (buy your own if you plan to play often). As for clothing, I played in my old college hoodie, grungy gym pants and sneakers (saved myself $10 on the jumpsuit). After we geared up, a ref briefly trained us on gun handling, rules and protocol. Important note: you are not allowed to shoot anyone at close range (10 feet or less) or else you'll get a warning/TO. We played several games in both outdoor fields, the makeshift "village" and the woods (aka. the actual forest). The latter was more challenging and involved some crawling, sliding and hiding behind skinny trees. Other notes: - no road signage; keep an eye out for the dirt path across from 1 Tavern Circle - no food on site, but apparently, you can order pizza delivery (the staff didn't advertise this). There's also plenty of local restaurants within a mile radius. - porter potty bathrooms = BYO hand sanitizer - expect to spend half a day here - be prepared to cover up all those bruises for the next week. I got tired of explaining to people, "no... I did not get beat up by my bf." My friends and I had a good time (we're in our mid-20s) and would return to this location.

Friendly, Fun and Good For All Levels!…read more I am writing this review as a newbie, but I planned and attended with 7 other people of different levels, ranging from the ages of 35-45. I traveled from California for a surprise birthday and had to plan it from afar. The staff was clear with all information regarding prices, rental equipment and description of what we would be doing for the day. Arrival: We all arrived right at 9am, signed in, and were able to pay individually(AMEX, MasterCard and Visa accepted). The cost was $58 each for a party, which included: * 500 rounds * gun * full mask(covers ears, forehead and down to chin) * two tubes on a belt to carry extra ammo * unlimited air * lunch with drink and chips (pizza/cheeseburger). $5 for additional lunch *2000 extra rounds is $65, ($40) if you have your own equipment. We bought 3 extra boxes for a full day with 8 guys. We had a few issues with equipment throughout the day to which the staff gladly fixed or swapped equipment. Let the games begin! There are two teams on the field(about 12-20 people per team), and being the less experienced, we got to start off defending a fort. There were some real pros out there, but people were all friendly, and it didn't deduct from our fun. Throughout the day, we played about 12 games (20 min each with about 10 min between), all with different scenarios. The course is 14 acres with tons of obstacles to hide behind. There are tons of trees and no open field. This is great for avoiding being hit, but can be trying to aim at your target through. 3 referees explain each game clearly, and take the course with you. They yell out if a man is hit, and make sure no one fires at them. They are strict with the rules but exceedingly helpful. Good for everyone: At one point, we had kids as young as 10 (many with professional equipment that could take us out from a mile away), men and women, and people as old as early 50's. It does require a good amount of walking, some climbing, and crouching. No one seemed to bully or push the boundaries of fair play. The Staff: I've peppered my review with comments about the staff, but since this was one of my biggest concerns, I'll give some more kudos. Being a first-timer, I felt like an idiot, well, most of the day. The refs would fix my gun in the field, check to see if I was actually hit, and direct me when I was totally lost. They were very heavy on the rules, nobody was hurt, and there were no arguments of real issues. The people working the office, food concessions, and equipment desk did whatever they could to make the day enjoyable. It's rare that you try something unfamiliar and have an incredible experience. Summary: 8 guys, different levels, different ages, and we all had a great time!

I play on these fields as part of a Social Boston Sports softball league, and I was struck by how…read morelucky I am to be able to play here the 1st time I stepped on the field. The Red Sox Foundation makes sure the fields are immaculate. There are lights for night games, which comes in handy since my league plays 9 PM & 10 PM games. There are 2 baseball fields, so 2 games can occur at the same time. There are some small metal bleachers for friends to be able to come watch & cheer our team on. Benches are available for both teams, and the fence behind them comes in handy for hanging up coats. The 1st time I was in the outfield, I had to remind myself to be in the game rather than looking at the beautiful surroundings - the Red Line going over the Longfellow Bridge, and a beautiful Boston skyline. The turn for the field parking lot comes up pretty quick on Storrow Drive, so you have to be sure to be in the right lane not to miss it. It's a small parking lot, so I've had to wait for a space to open up to park, but have always been able to get a parking spot before the game begins.

As far as Boston softball fields go its one of the best maintained fields, however, there are…read moresignificant problems with the field that prevent it from being anything more than a 2nd tier option at best. Field 1 left field is waaaayyy too short for adults, even without the trees that hang into play. The bases are too short- supposedly 65', but it wouldnt surprise me if they were closer to 60'. For reference ALL adult associations are using 70' base paths as of 2012. Further, the field management has chose to use those stupid SoftTouch bases- "soft" hollow rubber bases mounted on sleeves sunk into the dirt. Which tend to crack and split, or pop out of the sleeves which then fill with dirt and you can't put the base back in making the bases FAR more dangerous than non mounted bases. Safety wise, there is also a mini "green monster" scoreboard between the fields not far enough out of play just begging for somebody to run into it. At least they finally moved the metal stands which were also positioned close enough to the field to be a major problem on errant throws to 1B. The field looks nice, but it was clearly designed for looks rather than utility.

My son is also learning to play, and the bays are roomy and private enough that two of us can share a bucket and bay to help each other and keep it social. It's a fairly no frills kind of place. Given the prices for entertainment these days, the prices for practice balls seems pretty reasonable. It would be nice if they had more variety of tee heights (or adjustable tees) to use on the mats.

(Lennon and McCartney) I attended a charitable organization's golf outing on Tuesday and had a very enjoyable afternoon. No, I don't play golf except for a round of mini a few times a year. The grounds are gorgeous, with flowers, landscaped scenery, and gazebos everywhere. The bartenders and servers were all courteous, professional and very helpful. Blackstone cooked a simple dinner for our 100+ guests. It was a nice "make your own sandwich" version with burger patties, hot dogs, chicken and sausages paired with platters of cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, rolls and potato salad. They have a massive outdoor patio with plenty of tables and chairs for us to drink, socialize, and eventually enjoy dinner.

The price of 68 with a cart and unlimited (really worn out and tired) range balls off grass included with greens fees. I never see public courses in CT have grass ranges. They layout wasn't bad. The front 9 was a little tight. Whoever designed the course had to be creative with the landscape. The course was very hilly which I don't mind. Some memorable par 3's. The greens required very accurate approach shots. Most misses were short as approach shots that were right left or long usually required a difficult chip up a slope or ended up in the woods. The bad: Unfortunately when I played on 5/15 (normally a great time of year for growing grass) the fairways were in rough shape with bare spots lots of spots that could have been considered ground under repair. The greens were slow and in rough shape as well. Of all my putts I would be hard pressed to remember one that rolled well. Most putts were bouncing around from the start. Not a waking course at all. In fact they wouldn't let you walk even if you wanted to. I guess this helps with pace of play given some of the longer walks in between holes and the hilly landscape. Overall: Considering the conditions of the course especially the greens, pace of play and layout I would say this course was average at best. Not terrible for the price. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to play here again. If the greens were grass covered, cut and rolled and the fairways were in better condition that might be a different story. This was my second time playing paintball ever, and my first time playing outside. Let me tell you…read more- IT. WAS. AWESOME! I had such an amazing time. I went with a group of about 8 friends. We all got the deal on Trubates and wound up paying like $29 for a full day of paintball in the woods. Actually, we all paid the $5 for the cheap camo jumpsuits they had there, and later on we bought a case of more paint because we wanted to keep playing. What I loved was that they had so many different scenario games. The fact that they had a ton of room and had different sets all over the place meant that every game was completely new and different. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The other people there were cool, even the people who are really into paintball were friendly and didn't get bothered when I asked random stupid questions (and later shot them). We had a gorgeous day for it, but there was a lot of mud to stomp around in, and expect your inner ninja/commando skills to surface because in this setting it's really not possible to suppress them. I wound up with more than a few bruises and scrapes, but I didn't even really notice them until I got home and was scrubbing the paint out of my hair (really wasn't difficult). Overall, an absolutely freakin' awesome time. I definitely recommend checking this place out. Grab a group of friends, bring them to the woods in Upton, and shoot them - a lot. - Actually that's not really accurate because they were team games and my group wound up being on the same team for every game except the last one....when they all shot me....a lot...but i still won the objective and won the game for my team, so it was worth it :)

There are two speedball fields that seemed fun but didn't get a chance to play. There is a food stand on the properties in case you get hungry if you didn't bring any. The shop has friendly staff. The owner of the place was frequently walking around and helping the refs out. Even he stressed safety. There are a lot of hard core players to find it intimidating but don't worry. The staff is very good at splitting the teams up with a mix of experienced and newbies on each team. If you have a large party, making it private would help reduce the fear of being pummeled by paintball.
