I was throwing my step-son a 13th birthday party. We had done paintball indoors but never outside…read moreso we thought it would be nice to try that, especially since the party would be in August. As you may know, there are 2 outdoor paintball places in the Upton area. After trying to contact both to discuss party options, I was unable to reach Friendly Fire's competitor. So, when I spoke to Will, one of the Owners, I asked him to convince me to use his company rather than their competitor. After speaking with him, I took a chance and booked the party. It was $350 for 10 players for 2 hours of paintball. Then, $25 for each additional player. The staff were awesome. Kyle greeted us upon arrival and was kind enough to have a small tractor to bring our cooler, cake etc to our picnic area. They also allowed me to use their fridge/freezer to keep the ice cream and cake at proper temps. Overall, all staff were helpful including refs. Everyone was so nice and really a pleasure to work with. I would definitely go back since they were all fabulous. Some things I wish I knew... 1. If you are having a party, I suggest guests arrive a bit early. So if you want to play from 2-4, tell everyone it starts at 1:30. You would have ample time to fill out your waivers, get your gear and hear the rules/safety tips without rushing. We had some late comers and the staff were going to give us 2 hours of play time no matter what but my preference would have been to start at the scheduled time. 2. When not attending a party, ladies play free. 3. The paint washes out of clothes. 4. There is no sink-bring paper towels, hand wipes etc. They provide hand sanitizer (Purell) but I did not feel this was enough. 5. Kyle's well behaved black lab was on site the whole time. She was so sweet, but remember they do not want you to feed her. So definitely go there whether it is to play or have a party. Either way I am sure you will love it. We did.

My son is finally old enough to play (he's 12) so we went with some friends for his birthday. 12…read moreis my own decision as his father, I don't know that they have a particular rule about how young you can be. I think the fun you have will be directly dependent on who else is playing. We were led to believe (and I told my son's friends' parents) that people were divided up by age and experience. I suppose that's true once you get past a certain number of people. On our day, pretty much everybody played at once. And as the day progresses tempers do flare. This is a game based on the honor system and if you're hit you're supposed to be out. Well, two things are going to happen inevitably - you hit somebody who refuses to go out, and worse, you get hit and go out, and people keep shooting you. My kids watched a fight break out over that kind of behavior, and there was plenty of swearing about it to go around. You'll play upwards of 8 games with the same people if you're there all day, so expect enemies to form and vengeance to be sought. The staff was excellent, very helpful. I love that there's a built in lunch break that's included with the price of admission. Nice touch. It is way out in the middle of nowhere so don't expect wifi, and there's only a portapotty as far as bathroom facilities go. Go with as many people as you can, to improve your odds. You'll have much more fun shooting, and being shot at by, people you know rather than strangers. (Oh, and to answer the obvious question, yes it hurts. At least, if you're 12. Not in a "Medic! Man down!" kind of way, but in the kind of way that builds up with each hit. Before the day was out one of my group decided he was done because he didn't want to get hit anymore. But all of them had bruises to show.)

BOTTOM LINE: 3 great courses and layouts kept things interesting throughout the day…read more This place is located about an hour outside of Boston and in a forest, which provides perfect surroundings for their 3 courses. The staff were organized in directing various groups around the day making for little down time between games. You can purchase a painters suit to keep your clothes (mostly) clean, but the paint truly does wash off easily - and this is coming from someone who was really worried my runners would be ruined! You have to bring your own protective gear if you have any - they obviously provide eye wear/masks. Also, there's nothing to eat around here, but you have the option to order pizza with some of your packages. The 1st course consist of a "defend the fortress" setup with an actual concrete base in the middle of the forest (this was my favourite). One group starts in the fortress while the second group starts at the top of the hill and needs to rush down it. The 2nd course was another asymmetrical setup in a tight playgroun with different huts, fortress and objects to move about in. This was often one of the most tense ones because you were in such close quarters. Finally, the 3rd course was the "speed course" of a symmetrical field of inflatable objects. This was the one that seemed to draw the hardcore paint ballers - you know, the guys who brought their own paint ball guns, colour-coordinated body armour, and extra paint ball cartridges they could reload with on the field. I suppose this is as real life to a FPS as you're gonna get! Finally, not sure where else to mention this, but there seemed to be a very small gun range adjacent to the grounds (i.e., only one shooter at a time), which I found odd, and sometimes unnerving whenever you heard live rounds go off in the middle of your game.

Since it was my first time, I was a little intimidated when I saw some serious players came dressed in camouflage suits and carried their own gear. Thank god those pros were playing in an exclusive tournament that day *phew* At the check-in tables, we signed our waivers and purchased our rental equipment. The staff were not particularly welcoming but they were efficient and strict about safety (a good thing). There was no pressure to purchase upgrades or additional equipment. We each got the $55 deluxe package anyway: tippman A-5 gun (with higher rate of fire), 500 rounds of ammo, and an ammo waist pouch. All packages came with unlimited air fills and a full-face goggle mask. Equipment was decent quality - a couple guns malfunctioned, which were replaced immediately. The masks also became foggy and itchy after a few games (buy your own if you plan to play often). As for clothing, I played in my old college hoodie, grungy gym pants and sneakers (saved myself $10 on the jumpsuit). After we geared up, a ref briefly trained us on gun handling, rules and protocol. Important note: you are not allowed to shoot anyone at close range (10 feet or less) or else you'll get a warning/TO. We played several games in both outdoor fields, the makeshift "village" and the woods (aka. the actual forest). The latter was more challenging and involved some crawling, sliding and hiding behind skinny trees. Other notes: - no road signage; keep an eye out for the dirt path across from 1 Tavern Circle - no food on site, but apparently, you can order pizza delivery (the staff didn't advertise this). There's also plenty of local restaurants within a mile radius. - porter potty bathrooms = BYO hand sanitizer - expect to spend half a day here - be prepared to cover up all those bruises for the next week. I got tired of explaining to people, "no... I did not get beat up by my bf." My friends and I had a good time (we're in our mid-20s) and would return to this location.

You are a younger (or youngest) sibling of a one parent household and your parent does not trust you to be alone. Your sibling is invited to a group event but has to drag you along because of this. "This is not how I chose to spend my day, but I will try to make the most of it." You naively think. This Paintball thing sounds kind of fun after all, you've been playing shooters on and off and think it'd be fun to do this in real life. You have to wait the whole drive there because, again, you have no phone to run games on (or at least, not any worth playing) You get to the venue and you are introduced to a few people and given your equipment, noticing the different paintguns available. One of these guns is fed from the top, the other is fed from the back. Both of these are gas-powered, so you don't think much of it to start. You are given some protective gear and get into the first match. You look at your weapon, ready to finally do something. You pull the trigger... Nothing. No click, no round fired, nothing. You, in your adolescent mind, try inspecting the gun to see if there's an easy fix. It's a closed system, so there's nothing you can do. You find a referee and tell them your weapon is broken, and are brought to where the other weapons are. You hand in your defective paintgun, and are sat out for the next half hour doing. absolutely. nothing. Next round starts, you are handed a new (but very similar) paintgun. You test it with a trigger pull... Again, Nothing. You find another referee and turn in the gun but then ask if you can have one of those top-fed rifles. Surely that one won't break, right? "That's for paying customers." You just got handed two broken paintguns in a group activity and are told the models that probably do work are not allowed to you because you are a guest. You're shit out of luck, wait for round 3. Pull the trigger... IT FIRES! Maybe a bit too fast, you figure, but it at least works! You are directed to your starting spot, the whistle is blown, and you peek out of cover. You begin firing on where you think someone is, not actually sure but figure you can lay down some suppressing fire! EXCEPT... A referee approaches, sees you firing full auto, and forbids you from firing again, saying the gun is broken. You are forced to, for a third time in a row, sit out the rest of the match. You'd rather be home playing on the Xbox, this trip has been a colossal waste of your time. There's one more round at least... Broken, again. No firing. You just sit there, behind a tree, on a sweaty summer day, for thirty minutes, because you have completely given up on the staff here. No one will help you, and the equipment that actually works is not being given to you because you "aren't a paying customer." This is my only experience with Paintball. Three guns that jammed, and a fourth that had me immediately disqualified. Only a decade later do I realize how completely unjust this was and come on Yelp to leave a black mark on this website like they left a black paintball on my heart.

What I loved was that they had so many different scenario games. The fact that they had a ton of room and had different sets all over the place meant that every game was completely new and different. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The other people there were cool, even the people who are really into paintball were friendly and didn't get bothered when I asked random stupid questions (and later shot them). We had a gorgeous day for it, but there was a lot of mud to stomp around in, and expect your inner ninja/commando skills to surface because in this setting it's really not possible to suppress them. I wound up with more than a few bruises and scrapes, but I didn't even really notice them until I got home and was scrubbing the paint out of my hair (really wasn't difficult). Overall, an absolutely freakin' awesome time. I definitely recommend checking this place out.
