LITERALLY, we were the only ones there & it was great... She stated at times lots of Teenagers hang out there & smoke (often things that are illegal) and there is often bad language and she has at one time or another got into a verbal discussion (for lack of a bad word) with kids that are cussing up a storm & talking down to the toddlers in the park... The Play things were great, there is a huge double slide so the boys could race... There are only a few swings, and the ground is woodchippish, there is only one entrance which is a huge plus with toddlers and there are tons of picnic tables and benches all over!!! Def a park that we will continue to visit (when there arent rude little kids that I will fight with) when in Marlborough!

Of all the state parks in the area, Ashland has always been my favorite. It's not human-made and…read morehas great nooks and crannies that are fun to explore from a kayak or canoe on the water or along the perimeter on trails. We've been coming here since we moved to the area 25 years ago and because the entire reservoir is within the park property, it looks much the same as it did a quarter century ago. This morning I met a friend and we took our dogs for a walk. We were shocked that on a summer morning, we only passed two people along the trail- one with a dog (on leash as required) and one friendly solo human. The trails are very rooted and while I've done mountain biking here in the past, it's definitely easier to maneuver this one on foot. The trails are *sort of* marked with yellow spray paint on trees. As other people have mentioned, despite many times walking here I still always question if I'm going the right way. Even in the trail area, it's easy to wander off a bit. But also as someone mentioned, the beauty of this trail is that as long as you keep the reservoir on the same side and within view, you'll be fine! I like to park at the Boat Launch side of the park because you can access the trail right there without walking through a giant parking lot- so it feels more natural. I also like to head to the right (facing the water at the boat launch), therefore keeping the reservoir on my left the whole time. The public beach area (no lifeguards) is about halfway from the boat launch which is a great water/snack/bathroom break. The ranger station was open and the bathrooms were, as well. This section of the park has tons of shaded picnic areas and plenty of sandy and grassy space to spread out. This area used to get very busy on weekends with large gatherings - I'm not sure if that's still the case. But today there was one family group having a quiet picnic but the beach was empty. The trail around the reservoir is almost completely shaded except for the elevated causeway across the dam which is about .3miles of exposed trail- also of note are the annoying bugs that zip around this tall grass but seem to not bother humans. Ashland State Park is a great place to visit! Definitely recommend checking out this gem!

But Im SOOOO Glad that we went... First off the parking is weird & far away, but at least glad there is ample parking... The park is enclosed & this is a HUGE plus coming from the mother of a very curious little boy who wants to run all around at times... I am not worried that he has wandered off (I dont usually let him out of my sight for 1 sec, but still the gate is good) The sand box might have been the biggest "OOHHH" moment for me, there must have been 754 Dump Trucks & other little sand things & I asked my gf rather excitedly "Do these come with the park", because as I had noted earlier my son tends to be very curious and will almost climb into or onto other peoples strollers/bikes, so these being the parks toys was super exciting, he could play & I wouldnt have to continually tell him NO & keep apologizing to other parents... The climby, slide thingy (what are those called anyway) was rather large & there were several things that could be climbed up & down & ran across with several slides on it... I even climbed up there... The sprinkler pad was not on when we went - they close at 4 on Saturdays (will keep in mind for next time) There are picnic tables & benches all around & there are basketball courts AND A PORT-A-POTTY!!! How cool is that, not that I would use it but the conveinence is still pretty cool! I will def be back soon (prolly this Sat)...

Excellent little jaunt through the flowery woods on crushed gravel trails lined with many varieties…read moreof plants and blossoming flora. Possibly the best prize for labeling as many species as possible. So many gardens do not provide good and legible labels on their plants, trees, bushes, ferns, and flowers. This was joyfully, thoroughly well-labeled. As was the path itself on the loop trail. There is an additional outer trail you could take if you're channeling your inner Thoreau but we stuck with the anti-Frost and took the road more traveled. Stay on the path. Recommendations say you can walk the loop in 30mins. You probably could. But we found plenty to keep us oohing and aahing for 90 mins! Turtles, frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, and some fab funghi in the lily pond. Unique and colorful small flowers every which way. The trail has mostly small inclines here and there, but the hike at the end to return to the visitor center is a bit huffy puffy. While there were beautifully carved benches throughout other parts of the loop, there were no benches on this steepest part and there really should be at least one halfway up the hill. Take your time. Wear proper shoes, bring a water bottle. Small parking lot. Bonus gift shop, plant shop, and proper rest rooms.

the beach itself is nice. the water was a very enjoyable temperature and not too crowded. be aware…read moreif you don't live in marlborough it does cost $20 to get in. if id known this ahead of time we might have gone somewhere else but i figured we'd try it out. bathrooms were clean with a shower outside to rinse off with so that was nice. however, when we arrived there were 2 roped off areas. one was crowded and one only had one person swimming in it. we set up stuff near the less crowded one and went in. the lifeguard then yelled at us not to swim in that area even though we are still unsure why. the entire time we were there the lifeguards were insufferable. they yelled about the smallest things like parents carrying their kids on their shoulders. for $20 i expected a bit more so we probably won't be back considering there are just so many other beaches to go to in the area that are free.

Tripps Pond is a nice little space to spend some time outdoors... I had the opportunity to do so…read morewhile visiting friends this past weekend! Located on River Street, Hog Brook runs into the pond which in turn becomes the Assabet River. There are paths and trails on each side of the pond which are great for a stroll or a change of pace but certainly aren't built for lengthy hikes of any sort. One path travels through the woods over a couple small bridges and ends on a small peninsula at the pond's edge. The other side of the pond is well manicured with wide walking paths and multiple benches and picnic tables. When I was here, a few dedicated Hudson families were cleaning up the park and clearing away fallen trees and branches in anticipation of Earth Day! Plenty of space to soak in the early spring sun. There is a bench dedicated to George Chiasson (at one time a park commissioner who firmly supported the return of an annual fishing derby at the pond). The event is so aptly named the "George Chiasson Memorial Trout Fishing Derby". Sounds like the pond is stocked with trout for the event with a single tagged fish that if not caught on the day of the event, remains part of a prized contest until such day that some lucky person reels it in! The flowers are starting to bloom and the buds starting to emerge from the trees. Looks like the local boy and girl scout troops dedicate work and time to the park. There is a weeping willow and white birch tree there with plaques from the groups. I found a "#kindnessrocks" rock nearby to a bench in the park, a welcome message during my visit. A nice place to breathe in the fresh air and come together with the residents of Hudson.
