The baked spaghetti was very good, well baked with plenty of flavor and the fried chicken tenders were also tasty and cooked just right. The bread was perfect: warm, soft, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the garden salad didn't live up to the rest of the food. The vegetables tasted like they had been sitting mixed together for a while, almost as if they'd been combined days earlier, so the individual flavors were hard to distinguish. The staff were pleasant and polite, though the service felt a little low-energy. On the positive side, the price was decent and fair for the amount of food. Overall, some items were definitely enjoyable, especially the baked spaghetti, chicken tenders, and bread, but the salad and slightly bland service kept the experience from being outstanding.

Back at our table I found a large glass of cold sweet tea waiting for me (nicely brewed, extra sweet, just the way I like it!). It all tasted so good and full of southern comfort. I appreciated the friendly, frequent service of Debby. We've long been fans of buffet-style restaurants. We are newly-moved to Montgomery, and eager to find new eating places, and Fried Tomato Buffet has earned a spot on our prestigious, discerning list of favorites! We appreciated the words of wisdom and encouragement, the cleanliness, the service, the affordable price, the wide selection, the friendly welcome, and the free rewards club membership. Only one small caution: the entrance is an attractive, double-door entrance, but the right-hand door, as you approach the entrance is bolted shut, and the left-hand door opens outward only partially! It caught us by surprise...no sign or warning was posted on the outside to give us any warning! Upon entering we did see a sign posted on the inside, a notification that the door opens only "half way"! Maybe post a sign outside the door? Maybe modify the door hardware? Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. King Buffet opened in 2023 in a space formerly occupied by Golden Corral. It's pleasantly renovated and as clean as an establishment can be for a buffet concept. There are all the classics here and a few nice extras, like crab. The seafood at King Buffet is plentiful, but to be fair, not particularly good. The crawfish are somehow extremely tasteless, not because they are not spiced, but they just don't taste like crawfish. That's something I've never encountered before. The coconut shrimp is subpar. Mongolian beef is very loosely reminiscent of beef. With that said, all the dishes are not bad either, they are just not great. Where King Buffet shines is the service, with extremely attentive wait staff and superb cleanliness that results from that. As a whole, it does justice to this category of food and there is absolutely no reason to pass by if craving a buffet style meal.
