I have been here a few times but this was the worst. We will not be back. What was good the pork chop , Artichoke dip, tump tump shrimp and the cork burger that's it!! The collard greens were sweet, the fries dry, my mahi mahi was overdone, and the Brussel sprouts were burnt The drinks were atrocious!! Umm did a bartender really make those -I got springtime daisy and my son got emerald sunrise . The daisy was way too lemony like overboard and my sons was just gross The upstairs was also closed and We brung our son specifically for that. Honestly it was the worst experience I have had here. I really was on the fence that last time I came but this seals the deal. You lost our business !! We usually even get more drinks and a dessert. The A/C definitely works in here lol. There is a good amount of seating, all bench style and seat yourself. The food here is okay. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with crawfish to start. You couldn't really tell the tomatoes were fired because they were drenched in sauce. The sauce was good, very creamy. The crawfish however, were a bit tough. I also got the pesto chicken flatbread. The bread was really good but the pesto and chicken lacked flavor. It was filling but nothing to crave. read more

I downgraded my review to a 1 star based on a few extra things on my shrimp taco which definitely are not part of the menu description. I'm sure the ticked off GM told the kitchen to throw some extra stuff on the tacos. I've lived in the Wetumpka area for over a year, and Coosa Cleaver quickly became one of our go-to spots. We've consistently ordered the fried shrimp tacos and have always been happy--until our last two visits. I should state we always order to go. On the first occasion, we received fish tacos instead of shrimp. It seemed like a simple mix-up, and the friendly manager promptly corrected the mistake, which we appreciated. However, our most recent order was more frustrating. The shrimp tacos came with cheese on them--something we've never encountered before in all the times we've ordered them over the past year. While I now see that cheese is listed on the menu, it's clear the kitchen had not been including it in the past. So from our perspective, this felt like an unexpected change. I spoke with someone who identified herself as the GM, and she agreed to remake the order. Unfortunately, the replacement still had cheese. When we followed up, she became short with my daughter and insisted that the menu includes cheese on the tacos. But that's exactly what I was trying to explain--despite what the menu says, cheese had never been part of the dish in the past, and we were asking for the tacos the way we've always received them. My question is: if I clearly expressed that cheese was the issue, why remake the order the same way? read more

Local resident who enjoys supporting local establishments. Have been here many times and it's always a hit or miss but this last experience will be out last. Walked in with drinks from another establishment in our hands, was greeted and seated. We ordered our food and then were told we could not have our drinks from another location in their restaurant. Told them to cancel our order and we left. The visit prior to this we ordered a burger. Bit into it and it was burnt to a crisp. Told the waitress- she took it to the back and we heard the chef yelling and throwing things around in the kitchen. Waitress brought another burger out for us and it was literally dripping blood and raw. I love a mid rare burger but this was literally raw bloody meat. Waitress was friendly and apologized but no excuse for the rude kitchen staff- burnt is burnt and raw is raw. Will not ever return. read more

The Blackened Mahi Mahi was delicious as was the rice. The green beans seemed a bit old and withered but were manageable. The service was pretty good. Our appetizer came out maybe 2 minutes before our entrees, so we had to eat on both so they wouldn't get cold. All In all it was a lovely restaurant and I would love to go back. read more

We really enjoyed Coosa Cleaver! The restaurant was warm and inviting. Located on a charming street with overhead string lights. As soon as we saw the menu online we knew we wanted to eat there. Parking was a challenge but after three times around the block, the perfect spot opened up. So many yummy items on the menu! I enjoyed the outstanding shrimp and grits. He had the chef's special chicken picatta. The chicken was served on a bed of deliciously seasoned mashed potatoes. There was a special February cocktail menu with Valentines themed drinks. I had the raspberry rosemary flavored spritzer. A little too sweet for me, but I drank every drop! We went nuts and ordered the bread pudding to share for dessert. It was delicious, too. Served with ice cream and bourbon sauce. The service was friendly and attentive. Seating is on three levels with some open air seating on the top floor. It's really hard to continue to support local businesses when they do not care about their customers. We attended the Oktoberfest in downtown Wetumpka, which was great. After walking around a bit, my mother wanted pretzels and I remembered seeing them offered at CC, so I suggested we stop in. Two in our group stopped at Fizz Co. and grabbed some nonalcoholic boba drinks. At CC my mom and I were greeted by a very nice waitress who quickly told us about the pretzel bites and showed us to a table. Mind you, I had a draft beer in my hand because this was a festival and Wetumpka is an entertainment district meaning you can walk around downtown with alcohol purchased there. Nothing was said about my beer. My mother ordered the pretzel appetizer with a drink and we decided to stay and eat since she had just finished chemo two days prior and was feeling a bit hot and tired. Our two others joined us with their drinks purchased from a neighboring establishment and as we were looking over the menu, a woman approached us rather rudely and said we could not have those drinks in their restaurant. She said they could be thrown away or we could leave. We were not going to throw away drinks just purchased so we decided to leave. The waitress came back over and I told her what had happened and to cancel our order. Then, I told her my mom would just sit by herself and eat her pretzel bites while we waited outside. Since they thought we were leaving, they put my mom's drink in a to go cup and charged her 1$. They did not take this charge off when she decided to stay. The pretzel bites came out and I ran back in to try one. I figured after all this trouble at least they'd be good. NOPE! Frozen chewy pretzels with water consistency cheese sauce that was not good. We ended up finding the pretzel food truck and it was delicious! She finally got her pretzel and cheese sauce that was actually good with great service. We tried to support a local establishment but ended up with much better food and service at the food trucks. It is not against the health code policy to allow outside food and drinks so it's the restaurants own policy, which is understandable. However, I believe this policy should be less enforced during downtown events. We noticed others came in with Fizz Co drinks and they were also told they couldn't bring them in and they threw theirs away. Maybe it's just Fizz Co they have a problem with. read more

Food was great. Easily in 4 star territory. I had the brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries. Would recommend. The problem with this place is the service/front of house. As well as the bar/drinks. If they can marry the kitchen performance with the front of the house this place would be one of the best in the downtown area. Nothing was done in a timely fashion, drinks must of been being made on the moon because if you ordered a cocktail you were waiting a crazy time for it. Also advised us not to have their water and instead have their bottle water. Which then has a 3$ per bottle charge. If you've got a water issue, you should be getting that resolved. Not advising us what to do as well as making us pay a crazy cost for a bottle of water. All in all. The food is worth giving this place a shot. On a rainy night we stopped for a meal in this small spot. The exposed brick walls and decorations were very inviting. As is the process in most restaurants we were asked about a drink order first thing. My sister ordered a beer and I a Blueberry Mule. A little while later, we ordered the fish tacos. The tacos were great! a large helping of fish in each taco. We would have licked the plates if that were acceptable. Unfortunately our drinks had never come. We hailed the server and inquired. She checked and said something about the order never getting to the bartender upstairs. The drinks were now being made. The server then went over to the hostess and began to chat. I lived in Wetumpka my whole life. We were so excited when Coosa Cleaver came along because it was the first restaurant that we had ever had. That was nice and that was not a Mexican restaurant. When it opened way back when probably around 10 years ago, it was decent. The service was always slow, but the food was never consistent. Over the past 10 years we have gone probably once or twice a year. I have lived in Charleston and I currently live in Birmingham so I am used to good food, however I am not picky and I frequently eat Chef Boyardee so my standards are not through the roof either. When I am home visiting my parents, we go to Coosa Cleaver because we want good cocktails. Over the past few years our visits have been not just unpleasant but trash. It takes us upwards of two hours just to have one cocktail and food. Not an appetizer not multiple appetizers not even dessert just entrées and cocktails. we went to Coosa Cleaver today around 1 o'clock. Mind you today is a Monday so it should not have been super busy and it wasn't. It took us 38 minutes to get our waters and it took us 49 minutes to get our cocktails. It was my husband's birthday and it took him over an hour to get his beer. draft beer. When the food finally came, it was all terrible and cooked horribly. They forgot our dressing for our salads they had to run back-and-forth multiple times just to remember to bring condiments. There was no salt and pepper on the table. Nothing was seasoned well. The whole experience was awful. This is the last time we will ever eat at Coosa Cleaver. We have given it so many chances, but it is just trash. There are not enough people working at this restaurant to give the experience to customers that they truly want; cocktails, good food, good service. read more

We ate here Friday night. In all honesty, we came for the Steel Blue beer they had on tap. It was amazing & we finished that keg. You're welcome people! It was fabulous! We ate here also and were pleasantly surprised at the food which was so good that we came back Sunday for lunch before leaving town. I had the yummy cowboy burger...order it less cooked. I got medium rare and it was perfect. Friday night it was served with the best sweet potato fries I've ever had & I'n a connoisseur, so I know. Sunday they didn't have them because they sold out. I was very disappointed but the grilled Brussels were EXTREMELY good and very healthy. My man had fish tacos Sunday and they were solid. Very tasty. He might wound leave off the cheese he said, but he liked them. Cabbage was great & sauce & fish were good. On Friday he had the flatbread made with steak, which was recommended and he loved it. Our bartender Jamie was great! We had her both nights and enjoyed conversation with her and menu suggestions she made were Spot on. Well I just cannot stop thinking about the sandwich that I had for lunch at the Coosa Cleaver: a juicy fried chicken thigh, beer braised greens, and a sweet bacon jam on a brioche bun. OMG - it was soooo good! My mom had it too and she loved it as well. Too bad I live 900 miles away - I may have to experiment in the kitchen to see if I can recreate it at home! One of the few places for an avowed vegetarian/pescatarian to get more than 1 or 2 options on the menu. Therefore, we ate both lunch and dinner there. We made it feel like we were eating at 2 different restaurants by eating lunch upstairs (window seats overlook the street and you get some views) and dinner downstairs. Our waitress upstairs was spunky and tried hard but there were some basic things about the menu that she didn't know, like there's bacon (I'd advised her of my vegetarianism) in the brussel sprouts. We started with the fried pickles which my husband is still talking about days later; I concur, good but I'm not all about them like he is. We then split a portabello grilled cheese which I AM all about, the blending of the flavors on the toasted just right yummy bread was so good. We chose the grits as our side cause we're in the south, nothing special. We added the Brussels since we were splitting our main and I have a pretty insatiable appetite. After sending back the ones with bacon we got a new order sans bacon and we definitely could've done without them. For dinner, our waitress was super spunky and knowledgeable- a real treat. We again mostly split a main, this time the fish tacos which were fine- good, neither the best or the worst I've ever had. She recommended the sweet potato fries which I normally like and they were thick and yummy in spite of the fact that I suspect they were store bought frozen. I nearly forgot, we also ordered a beet salad which because it's summer we were told it actually becomes the summer salad and is not made with beets but rather blueberries and strawberries... it was very good. But, the piece de' resistance was the fried moon pie for dessert. If you eat nothing else in Wetumpka eat the fried moon pie. You can thank me later. read more

When you're the only restaurant open in a town for Sunday lunch, you don't have to be great, just competent and Coosa Cleaver is just that. Our group of 6 ordered some apps and 6 different entrees and everything was fine. The collards were beer braised and sweet to the point the beer and sugar overpowered the greens. The Mac and cheese desperately needed seasoning. Otherwise, everything was fine. Since our table of 6 was "so large" they put in our order 3 at a time "to avoid overloading the kitchen". That was a first. So if you're in wetumpka on a Sunday looking to eat, head to the competent but forgettable Coosa Cleaver cause it's the only place open in town. read more

We ate here recently on Friday night for dinner and had great service and the food was very good. One observation was the food took a long time to come out after ordering. I believe the kitchen may be too small to handle the volume of guests. That's only my guess. My only other critique was the Chicken and Greens sandwich I ordered didn't include bacon jam or pickled onions. These are key ingredients to the sandwich and it's why I ordered it. I didn't notice it until after I had started eating it and didn't want to ask about it and spend even more time than we already had at the restaurant. I would have gladly ordered something else if I was told they were out of ingredients to make the sandwich. So I believe the wait staff is really trying hard to provide great service to make up for backlogs and quality control in the kitchen. We will definitely be back as the food we've had has been good but expect to be there a while. read more

Dear Coosa Cleaver, What a lovely hidden gem. We technically were upstairs at the 1909 bar with Jamie as our fabulous server. We had drinks, appetizers, and a view for days. Your tater tot nachos we so good there are no pics to share. Likewise with the flatbread. The city improvements are currently making access difficult, and I really hope you survive the pandemic AND the improvements. You all deserve that.
