To start it's great that the restaurant has online ordering, which is convenient and time saving. The food was hot and delicious, and packaged in trays that didn't feel like they were going to fall apart. Also there was a substantial amount. Today, I arrived at work a little late because I had to go through mid-city traffic to get to downtown. I tried to pick up lunch at one of my usual Subways Sandwiches shops, but the line was too long.  Looking down the mall walkway, I noticed this Chinese eatery, the New China, that I had been eyeing for a while.  I noticed that their clientele is varied, so I decided to give them a try.  When you walked in, there were four plain tables with chairs. The aesthetics are somewhat outdated, complemented by some graffiti wall art.  A few local individuals were dining at the tables. A young, polite Asian cashier greeted me at the register, while I perused the wall menu. She presented me with a menu pamphlet.  After a brief glance at the menu, I thought the prices were reasonable.  I went with the beef pepper steak and a diet coke fountain drink from the $9 lunch specials. I watched as the cooks prepared multiple orders in the back.  They spoke in their native language and occasionally chuckled.   It seemed that each dish was prepared to order, taking about 15 minutes per order. However, you could call in ahead of time. While taking my lunch to my office, I wondered if I would be disappointed.  When I opened the box plate, I was surprised to see a generous portion of fresh vegetables and meat, along with a nice serving of fried rice.  Not oily, the taste was fresh, and lightly seasoned. There was no MSG here, I could tell.  I thought to myself, 'Damn, I should have gotten an egg roll.' " Well, next time... It sits in the shopping center on the Southwest corner of North Acadian Thruway and it's very easy to get in and out of the parking lot. I ordered the small (pint size) Shrimp Lo Mien with added bell peppers to give it the extra crunch that I enjoy. I also ordered one Egg Role. The food was extremely good. The lo mien was hot, fresh, loaded with onions, bell peppers, and napa cabbage, and it was not dry. It also had about 12 perfectly cooked good size shrimps (cleaned & deveined). That's a lot of shrimp for a small Lo Mien. The Egg Role was hot, perfectly fried, and had good crunch. I paid $10.20 for a small (pint) Lo Mien and 1 Egg Role. Overall, a good value for lunch, but the Egg Roll was a little expensive and small for $2.00 each. I ordered online from www.newchinabrla.com. The website is simple, but well designed, and it's easy to navigate (no need to create an account unless you want to). Just add your items to the cart, answer a few questions, confirm verification text, and checkout. I will dine at New China again. There are a few other dishes I would love to try (specifically the Bourbon Chicken), but I will definitely order the Lo Mien and Egg Roll again. We were on a road trip and just wanted something quick and fulfilling. We ordered after looking at the pictures on here and man they didn't disappoint us!! The portions were huge!! We the four of us couldn't finish half of what we ordered....not complaining haha. So I tried this place based on the reviews. It was average to say the least. I got the shrimp with mixed vegetables and I ordered online. It said you could add onions and/or egg so I assumed that meant to the fried rice and I wanted green onion so I added and paid extra but what I got was plain ole onions on top of bland fried rice with no seasoning and it didn't have any other ingredients. If I upgraded to shrimp fried rice, it would've been three measley shrimp in a mountain of bland rice, no egg and the rice pretty much looked the same as the plain fried rice except I paid $4 more for three small shrimp. I got the shrimp fried rice with the general Tso chicken. I asked for extra sauce on the general Tso and made sure to ask if they added extra sauce when I picked up my order but there was no extra sauce!! At least the food was hot, like it just came out the wok. It tasted okay. I want to find a Chinese restaurant in the Baton Rouge area I can just fall in love with! There are tables along the sides only (max seating 12) so it's obviously meant as a take-out spot. The lunch specials are affordable, and tastes standard. Came with a fortune cookie, but no egg roll. They all share the same menu because they all make the same food. I like this place. Food is always made to order which is why prices went up from when they used to have the serving line special. I have been a patron of New China since it first opened. One thing I love about this restaurant is the consistency in freshness, service, and taste. The food is always prepared to order so it arrives to your table piping hot. The service is always fast and with a smile. Stacy and Henry are amazing and so are the two Wu brothers working in the kitchen.
