Occasionally, they might give extra free food on larger orders! It's mostly a takeout place, so the restaurant itself is usually quiet when I go in. This is the best Chinese place in BR! The crab Rangoons are kinda sweet that I like! The sweet n sour chicken is kind of small so be prepared. But the people and food is amazing! Tried China Star for the first time over the weekend and all I can say is this will definitely be my go to Chinese takeout!! I got the coconut shrimp and lo mein and it was absolutely delicious! Definitely the best lo mein I have had. The egg rolls and rangoons were amazing as well. My fiancé got a chicken dish and said it was delicious. The potions were huge for the price and we really enjoyed it. I wish I would have taken some pictures to show just how much food it was but we were so excited to eat I forgot. I hadn't had much luck finding good Chinese takeout when I lived on the other side of town. I was hopeful I'd have better luck when I moved to the Bluebonnet area and China Star is already a winner! Pan fried dumplings weren't skimpy on filling and had a great crisp on the dumpling. Singapore Mei Fun (medium spicy) was full of tasty fresh shrimp, pork and chicken strips, big hunks of scrambled egg, fresh bell peppers and the perfect level of spice and dash of curry. In my 2019 travel around Baton Rouge looking for the best Mandarin chicken, so far this place is pretty strong---I have been here 2x and order Mandarin chicken each time---placing the order was easy, although if you have questions there may be a communication problem, and the food is ready in a short period of time --- the Mandarin chicken sauce is very similar to what I recall it is supposed to taste and smell----and believe me when I say not all of the places I have tried thus far can accomplish this. The portion of chicken provided is a good amount in comparison to competitors and you also get pork fried rice. A drink is not offered and there are no veggies. Overall, I go regularly and would definitely recommend it to others. People who know me and read my reviews know that I love whole in the wall Chinese places -- they are typically amazing or terrible. I love going there, because they have a very simple agreement with their customers: You give me a small pile of money, and I give you a big pile of food. And they deliver. My roommate go about once a month, and we enjoy the experience. I give them 4 stars,not because the food is amazing and the atmosphere is top notch, but because they offer a ton of good food for very little price. The lady who runs the register is always nice. I typically get a large order of the chicken in garlic sauce and a small order of egg drop soup and a drink. It costs less than $12, and I have lunch for the next day. There are lots of veggies and plenty of chicken. It isn't very spicy, but I bet they would make it spicier if I asked. I ordered a hot and sour soup and General Tso's Shrimp. The hot and sour soup was delicious and the fried wontons that came with it were perfectly thin and tasted fresh. I've never has General Tso's Shrimp before...all I can say is...YES!!! The shrimp were large and plentiful, the veggies tasted fresh, and the sauce was light and flavorful. Few weeks ago, We ordered take out for dinner. I got the garlic chicken and my fiancé ordered sesame chicken. Food was average. Taste was ok.. just enough to do the job and fill your belly whenever extremely hungry. But the fried rice and egg roll that came with the combination meal was very lacking. Fried rice tasted lk regular rice cooked in chicken broth. I don't even think it touched the wok at all. The eggroll was bland. Tasted lk cabbage in a crispy wrap. Both chicken entree was overcooked. The garlic chicken was flavorful but did not lk the texture since it was over done. We came here bc convenience of location but I doubt we'll return again. read more
